Just got back..
A genuinely fab day on the roads and the avenues where we're literally in and out of every dive at one point.....who goes into an establishment at am as opposed to pm and orders a dozen shots?!! Haha!
Anyhoos, onto less important things:
JAB, thanks for the bringing some assemblance of professionalism with the staff and players, playing some attractive football and recruiting one of the best loan signings I think I've ever seen, and for some genuinely exhilarating times. It's over because the negatives outweighed the positives, but has any Gas manager been sacked after a draw? So it's not always a results based game...
Question for all you romantics out there.... have you ever fancied someone at school, next door, at work etc only to lose touch for a few years and then see them again when their appearance or actions have become hideous ? Then you think, thank Gerry we didn't go down that road! (?)
Yesterday was such a day.
Tyreece Simpson.
What's happening to him?
He tore us a new one with McKirdy at Swindle a few years ago....he should have scored yesterday but the post seemed to beat him to the ball, and spent the rest of the match like you and me - spectating.
What a waste!?
Coxy my son, you played well! Some great saves yesterday....still a bit shaky about the high ball in from a set piece, because I don't think he's the finished article by far. But goalkeepers primarily have to be shot stoppers and I thought he done ok yesterday amidst some pre match chat of a Belly being on the button.
Josh Grant I think is makeshift right back but done very well linking up with Jervani, who is a makeshift right winger, but both made some dashing moves
Friend played well as did, Vale.
My m o m was Chris Martin, ably assisted by the assistance king. He put himself about a bit. Anyone see his rugby tackle on their no12 in first half corner? And that no12 was a unit...
I liked his contribution, always looked up for it and his goal was as cheeky as the situation we're in..... after more than a few transfer windows, Mr Barton couldn't recruit one experienced striker and keep him fit!
I thought Finley deserves a mention. One of his rare runs found him in the box, scintillating stuff, and is starting to show us some of his previous form.
I have a lot of respect for John Brady post match comments.... it's fair to say they had some chances before we scored, and you could see they pushed on us at the end - we started defending too deep - but I think if we had gotten a third goal when our heads were high because Kramer missed a open goal opportunity and some shots were tame - it would've been a completely different story. We wimpered over the line for a barely deserved win, but a wins a win and I think after the turmoil of the week, 4 points from a team in the playoffs and one almost in relegation zone isn't a bad return just we were clinging on at the end.
But this is the Bristol Rovers we all know and love, when do we ever make things easy on ourselves?
