Could be turned into a car park for the newly redeveloped all seater 30,000 capacity Mem. You heard it here first……! A nice park and ride.

If anyone thinks the cricket ground is a suitable venue to build a football stadium from scratch I’ve got a bridge I can sell you.
Trying to imagine getting a dozen or so away coaches down Nevil Road, ain’t going to happen. I think Glos are casting envious eyes at Hampshire, who moved from a central Southampton location to near enough the edge of Eastleigh. Also want to get one of the Hundred (an abomination of a tournament if ever there was one) franchises. Doesn’t make it the right decision though.

If this the land that a previous poster mentioned was offered to us? The South Glocs site has been mentioned a few times as a possible location for us.

If this is the site a previous poster mentioned we turned down, why did we do that and why have the cricket club grasped the opportunity? Nuts isn't it? We should have done exactly what the cricket club are planning and be selling the current site to developers for a fortune and then using the money to build a modern stadium on cheaper land elsewhere.

KP suggested a fan proposed land at Lyde Green which was suitable for a stadium but it seems the idea was dismissed as a non starter by Wael, perhaps he's either gone to Glos CC with the idea or they've picked up on the idea from the forum or S Glos planners? The positives must be the lands cheaper and planning permission is unlikely to be a major issue. Meanwhile we're messing about trying to make the Mem something half decent.

The Ageas Bowl is a great facility but a nightmare to get in and out of for big games. Only one major route in and out from the M27 through the major retail area of Hedge End.

The pitch will be too far away from the seats…..it’s a no from me. Spent too much time in the Jessup Tavern when I should have been in the College next door.

I did say that Lyde green was going to be used for a ground but had to be careful as to not say which club and to think we turned it down but it doesn’t matter. I learned my lesson with that

I said as much as I could but was called a fantasist, that I made stuff up and the usual suspects had a pop. I also said what was happening with the FM and had the same crap. There is no point in trying to give out real info as many prefer the fictional view and don’t want to face the truth. I knew it was only a matter of time before this came out but if I had given the clubs name it could have jeopardised the deal. Wael dismissed the site as not feasible but after first being mad keen on it. The s/glos council were very keen on it too. I wonder how this would have turned out with the new majority owner ? He seems much less territorial and more open , without feeling threatened. I will end with saying both projects were stopped from progressing by one man’s desire to control. I can only conclude that the clubs best interests are not his priority given the outcome of both. I feel indifferent now and am resigned to the mem.

It was pretty obvious who you meant, at least to me. With regards Wael, if his desire to retain control killed off this and the FM, how does that square with him giving up a majority now? Does that mean the Lyde Green plan would have needed a third party, and if so, was there one?

KP just assumes £50m+ is going to be given to the club for free to build a stadium and just because the deal didn't proceed it's got to be Wael's fault? It seems to me the FM was kicked into touch by the new co-owners not Weal, and, possibly, he would have sanctioned the FM deal if they'd supported the idea. Given what happened to the club with Eastville it's hard to believe any supporter who was around at the time would be happy to give away the Mem just to get a new ground.

Let’s wait and see how this plays out. There are four sites they are interested in, all greenfield and none with planning permission at this time. Who’s to know what people in these areas will think of these plans if and when they come to fruition and what opposition there will be. It’s not a done deal at this time and I imagine the locals in the present grounds location won’t roll over and accept a massive development of houses and flats on that site easily. Mr Lansdown failed to get a ground built on a former waste tip on the edge of green belt and the locals in Ashton Vale won that fight and managed to get a former tip to be accepted as a village green. There will be a lot more opposition to any development of the county ground for sure.
