Then why did we release a video which made the whole fanbase think it was a done deal? Good marketing to sell half the football club to an investor? It’s not a 65 inch TV. With a Black Friday deal on it. Investors will want to see what they’re buying, it was said that the Kuwaitis had been in meetings with Conygar before the deal was finalised so they’ll have known the deal. That video was and is a disgrace.

Perhaps it was all part of a subtle plan to introduce the new owners on good terms to the fans, rather than on bad terms by telling us they were binning the FM plans, as they didn't take long to scrap them once they were on board? It seems somebody decided around December time that we were staying at the Mem as that when plans for the new stand were first divulged.

I think we can fairly confidently file the FM video in the incesingly large 'not fully thought through/ balls up' draw.

I wouldn't get too irrate by it, it was probably released with good intentions and sincere reasons rather than anything cynical. Premature? Wishful thinking? Absolutely, but something many of us suffer from. 🫣

With Mangotsfield (which at the time was a Rovers heartland) I don't think we ever got to the stage of getting the land and applying for planning permission. The nimbys didn't want us. Some of those were Rovers fans too. For the second time it's in the link I posted earlier! I read the link. We didn't acquire the land, so how could we apply for planning permission? The council basically said that they wouldn't release the GREEN BELT land. So, when people say we have never been refused planning permission I think they are technically right. The annoyance as I mentioned is that Mangotsfield and Kingswood was Rovers heartland and still the locals didn't want it.

I think they genuinely thought the FM was going through. 5 years with the increased capacity of the new stand should have paid for itself. The investment and generation of wealth would have been in the FM, rather than redeveloping the Mem. I wouldn't be surprised if the redevelopment is just leverage with the council for land.

I have no idea. With all the managerial changes, capitalisation of debts under his tenure I can only guess he had maybe wanted to start a path to getting out but that would be speculation on my part. He has shown a side to him that shows impulsive behaviour. As for the financing, I have not got any idea but everything was in place for it to be a favourable project. Sorry but I cannot answer Stuart. Lyde Green site currently sits on Greenbelt I believe and it's in application for change to Brownfield which will probably succeed given the precedent that's around it. It would be built in conjunction with a developer too. I know a bit about it, I know the owners of the site quite well. However I also know that it's never been seriously considered by our owners, I don't know why that is, I've never asked. Everytime I've had a casual conversation about stadiums, the indication is they want to stay as close to the heartland or the city as possible. Lyde Green is somewhat out on a limb. Ed Ware?

The council doesn't own any land at the FM or the Mem, given the FM is dead in the water it's time to move on thinking that's still a possibility.

There was a planning meeting at Kingswood Civic Centre in late August / early September 1990. I was there. We got one vote in favour, one councillor even suggested a name change to Kingswood Rovers!!! There wasn’t any kind of organised pro stadium protest, a few of us met at the SC shop on Stapleton Road a couple of times and even met the local MP who came out against the plan. The objectors were highly organised, but the suggestion that Rovers fans were involved is palpable nonsense. It was mainly people from the Warmley area, the chairman of the antis was a City ST holder. This took place on the Monday, the Saturday after was when 8 S’heads committed arson on the main stand at Twerton. Less than a decade later the whole area became the Carson’s Road housing estate. So much for the hedgehogs and rare flowers in the area.

Ali durden on pouts west said more info about tbe future of the county ground this week Haven't GCCC already said they'll be giving their members more info this week? SwissGas has now suggested the Lyde Green development was linked to the strange move where Bristol Live suggested that two new members would be joining the board one day then not the next day!!

Strangely enough, you don’t actually have to own the land to apply for planning permission to build something on it. It is perfectly true to say that BCC have never turned down an application from Rovers or City. The Mangotsfield scheme (12,000 capacity I think), was then covered by Kingswood Borough Council, now a part of South Glos.

You just use the correct form (B I think?) to inform the owners you are applying for planning permission and send a copy to the council with the application.

The video increased pressure to agree a deal for the FM.
