Pretty certain we never got pp for the proposed stadiums at Hambrook nor Kingswood plus further afield at Severnside? Apart from the Mem we've only ever got pp at the UWE. Did we attempt planning permission for those sites? Yes for the one in Kingswood/Mangotsfield, I don't think we bothered for Hambrook/Stoke Gifford due to the protests raised by local councillors, likewise Severnside bit the dust before we got around to seeking pp. Good luck to GCCC if they can find a greenfield site and get pp w/o any major issues.

Plus our plans for various grounds in similar areas all failed and that was before organised protest groups really took off. Only reason we have not built a new stadium in the past is we have never Had the finance to build one nothing to do with nimbys as we have never been refused p p to build it Didn’t planning get rejected for Carson’s Road, Mangotsfield? It was green belt at the time but the ring road was only months away from completion and not long after the area was gradually getting developed anyway

I think Holmes on here suggested we were advised not to waste our time and money.

That’s what I remembered and seemed ridiculous with the ring road nearly ready to be opened right on the doorstep of the proposed site.

Some of those were Rovers fans too.

I said as much as I could but was called a fantasist, that I made stuff up and the usual suspects had a pop. I also said what was happening with the FM and had the same crap. There is no point in trying to give out real info as many prefer the fictional view and don’t want to face the truth. I knew it was only a matter of time before this came out but if I had given the clubs name it could have jeopardised the deal. Wael dismissed the site as not feasible but after first being mad keen on it. The s/glos council were very keen on it too. I wonder how this would have turned out with the new majority owner ? He seems much less territorial and more open , without feeling threatened. I will end with saying both projects were stopped from progressing by one man’s desire to control. I can only conclude that the clubs best interests are not his priority given the outcome of both. I feel indifferent now and am resigned to the mem. It was pretty obvious who you meant, at least to me. With regards Wael, if his desire to retain control killed off this and the FM, how does that square with him giving up a majority now? Does that mean the Lyde Green plan would have needed a third party, and if so, was there one? The FM isn't happening due to the facts that conygar have taken ages to get their own house in order and the build cost for the stadium was in the region of £100m making it completely unviable from a financial perspective. It's nothing to do with anyone's desire for control.

Does that mean the Lyde Green plan would have needed a third party, and if so, was there one? I have no idea. With all the managerial changes, capitalisation of debts under his tenure I can only guess he had maybe wanted to start a path to getting out but that would be speculation on my part. He has shown a side to him that shows impulsive behaviour. As for the financing, I have not got any idea but everything was in place for it to be a favourable project. Sorry but I cannot answer Stuart. Lyde Green site currently sits on Greenbelt I believe and it's in application for change to Brownfield which will probably succeed given the precedent that's around it. It would be built in conjunction with a developer too. I know a bit about it, I know the owners of the site quite well. However I also know that it's never been seriously considered by our owners, I don't know why that is, I've never asked. Everytime I've had a casual conversation about stadiums, the indication is they want to stay as close to the heartland or the city as possible. Lyde Green is somewhat out on a limb.

Favourable in that planning, land purchase and that we would not be having to argue with nimbys would not have been any problem. I did not post that the guy had the idea but that he was trying to facilitate it, as a spokesman for someone. The finance was also there but meant our then owner would have had to give up some percentage of ownership. I did explain it before. Nevermind, it’s gone now. We had the first chance though. You posted that a supporter had an idea for a stadium but no idea how he'd fund it but he had contacts who might be able to assist. You also suggested Wael showed little interest in the idea. If that's wrong then post a link to where you ever suggested he had full financial backing for the stadium. Wasn't there some rumours with some Americans once? I can't remember if that was around this or not but I doubt very much they were involved with the Lyde Green site. I would have thought that if there was any firm interest on either side that there would be a few rough sketches presented as to what it could look like to give to the owners for them to have any interest piqued.

You have that wrong but I’m not getting into that all over again. I'll take that as you can't then! Take it anyway you wish. If you think I have got nothing better to do than trawl old forum posts and am willing to do so then I can categorically tell you, you’re wrong.

Where was the Kingswood stadium? Not an obvious location for a massive new super development.... Think the poster is writing of Mangotsfield

There was a contract in place to buy it and so the UWE was financed...

Clearly I'm not or you'd find your post to prove it, G1989 has just confirmed what you posted previously, the supporter had contacts in the US who maybe interested, you've never posted on here they were interested. The fact he also suggests Wael was never interested suggests it was a total non starter anyway.

Still boils my p!ss that they thought it was OK to release that and lead us along, despite no agreements on 1. the size of the stadium, 2. the capacity of the stadium, 3. the area of the site it would take up, 4. the cost of it all and how it would've been funded, plus 5. how the revenue share would work. Talk about being treated with contempt. Disgusting.
