It doesn't matter how good a squad is, if you've got little effort or desire from the players, then you are in free fall. We will struggle to get another point this year.

Is there any evidence that the players were getting more days off under Barton than they would usually get? All I know is players were given time off on international break weekends, given the amount of training ground injuries we seemed to pick up, I'm not sure that was a bad thing? Pretty certain we weren't saying players were unfit when we beat Scunthorpe 7-1 in the last game of the season. Late starts on a Monday as well.

It’s worrying how little some of our players even looked interested. I said when they were all coming out begging for Mangan that we could have a Dave Penney on our hands. Now it’s too early to say that we have but I’m still concerned about it. Hope you are wrong about another Dave Penney situation but at least there is a January window try to move on any who are not fully committed. Taylor was spot on when he talks about character in the short interview I've seen. Also mentions the need for a good spine. I've always thought you need 4 good players to create the foundation of a winning team a keeper who earns that point or two for the team, a centre back who can defend and organise, a central midfielder who can tackle and move the ball, and a striker who scores and makes the opposition defense nervy. We have no of those four at present.

Mighty generous giving that Scunny side the 1😂 Especially as it would have stopped us getting automatic promotion!

A lot of people seem to be quite upset about going out of a cup nobody cares about 😂👍 I'm not bothered about going out of this cup.
I am bothered about the lack of professionalism, application and attitude shown in that 2nd half though.
I don't care whether it's a league game, Pre Season friendly or Tin Pot Cup game, to suddenly drop levels like that from 1 half to the next is just unacceptable.

All sounds very disappointing. 18 pages for a game in a competition many say they are not interested in. It would seem the players were not interested either! Shame as the competition is a great oppertunity for some and a chance to build momentum. I am sure Mr Taylor is right when he says he learnt a lot tonight , yet another high turnover of players looks likely meaning rest of season is all about maintaining mid table security and planning for next season .....again, ah well such is life as a Rovers fan, good luck MT, seems you have work to do!

I hope that abject second half isn’t linked to players sulking about their obvious want to keep Mangan Not sure about that, they played well enough in the first, if they were sulking, they'd sulk from the start, they may of course have been sulking about any changes MT made or what he said at half time

I think he started with what he thought was probably pretty much his starting line up for Saturday bar maybe Hunt. Made changes at half time and more second half and we lost our way. I wouldn’t read too much in to a first game in the crappy cup where the manager was keen to keep some fresh and try things out. Let’s see how we get on over the rest of the season in the league.
As I said the day before MT signed though a new manager would have to be doing very well to improve on Mangans 1.6 points a game. This isn’t the best squad we’ve had in decades as some have made out. It’s a mid table squad at best lacking in pace , finishing and fight.

Said it before say it again stinks of Tisdale MK 2
All this talk of a big overhaul in January . There are only scraps to be had in the Jan window so lower your expectations and expect a slide down the table.
Am I the only one not inspired by Taylor at all ?

John Ward's squad finished midtable 2 out of his 3 full seasons in charge, even though he had Marcus Stewart and Gareth Taylor. Holloway's squad finished mid table too even with two 25 goal a season strikers in it! It then plummeted to the bottom of the league below rapidly when they were both sold. Paul Trollopes squad was also midtable in League 1, even though it had Ricky Lambert. Which is my point, stick any of those strikers in this current team and imo we'd be going up. That's why I think the majority of this current squad, in terms of pedigree and ability is the best we've had for long time. It's just missing clinical goalscorers and a manager who can get the best out of them.

A lot of people seem to be quite upset about going out of a cup nobody cares about 😂👍 It's amazing. Some of the conclusions are ridiculous but hardly surprising on this chat board. A game of 2 halves where we could/should have been 4 goals clear at HT. We lose to away to a plucky crawley and its the end of the world for our new manager and the squad already. It's the boycott trophy ffs.

The priority is to get into the playoffs so this cup competition was likely an unwelcome distraction other than for the manager to look at some players without the risk of dropping points.

The current central midfield is nowhere near good enough.

Hahaha, not sure what the sense of enormous wellbeing haters were talking about, what happened to the Tisdale 2 bounce ? went up in the first half and came down deflated in the second. Take out Wilson and Thomas, who were imo outstanding, the rest did not play as if they had met the second coming. Tbh bring in a JCH type forward during the January window and then even Tisdale 2 may yet lead BRFC to the championship. UTG

As long as the roots are not severed, all will be well, and all will be well in the garden.
