JCH & Alfie May. No better strikeforce than that at this level. Wouldn't be surprised to see them in the Play Offs at end of season now. Peterborough lost more with JCH in the side, than they did since they dropped him. They said during the summer when they thought they sold him, that they wanted to play a more high pressing game and change the way they play. It has worked. The game he did start recently, they didn't win. Sometimes the team players better, even if a replacement isn't as good in the box. Charlton are 150/1 to get promoted. I've just put a pound on 😂. They are 40/1 to make the play offs. Good odds, if they can fit them both in the team. I wonder if they will consider selling May?? Or if they can play together.

Possibly why he has never moved on from boro. Seems he only chases the pound rather the ball On a ‘Club Harmony’ level I bet posh can’t wait to see the back of him ! 😡

Harvey Vale seems to get on well with his teammates and he's apparently earning £25K a week? Likewise neither does Martin's rumoured £5 a week wage. If JCH scored the goals to get us into the top 6 and so generate more bonuses for the players then I doubt it would cause too much friction. Some players earn slightly more, Vale is on loan, we are not paying him that. 5k if true isn't much more. A bit different to a player earning double at the same club. Every players agent at our club would be straight on the phone! And they'd all be told the same score 30 goals a season and I'll get you a similar deal? Nobody knows what Connor Taylor's earning, given he swapped high paying Stoke for Rovers then he could equally be on similar silly money for a young defender.

Players won't score 30 goals, without players creating chances for them. You don't expect a midfielder or defender to score lots, but they could still be doing a good job. There is a reason, why they wanted to get him off the books. He's not worth a lot more than everyone else.

Don't you need to add "in my opinion" as clearly somebody at Rovers in the last window and Charlton in this window feels he's worth it. The proof will be what he achieves at his new club, if JCH's goals gets them in the play offs or better then the money paid on his wages will easily be repaid.

I'd judge it on not how many he scores for someone else, but who we get in instead

You can guarantee this thread won't disappear if he joins another top 6 challenging side and continues to score for his new side, particularly if we still struggle to score in winnable games.

If we get someone else in who starts scoring then nobody will really give a sh** about JCH. That's what I meant when i said id judge us on who they get in instead. If we sign a dud then obviously people wont be happy, even if we have saved a few quid

A couple of things . Firstly the transfer fee will be smaller but surely that just means that the player and his agent will demand a higher signing on fee . Those who talk of getting him on the cheap are mistaken. The reality is that signing JCH would also dictate the way that we play going forward and that obviously does not fit in with Matt Taylor’s preferred choices. Our recent change of fortune started when Johny Marquiss returned to the team against Crewe and his all action style of hassle and pressuring the defenders allowed us to defend and hit opponents on the break with a fast attacking style. You can’t do that if you have an old fashioned traditional forward in the team. Matt Taylor is all about speed , intensity and effort and whilst we presently have Chris Martin in the team I suspect that is only the situation until Taylor is able to sign the type of a younger mobile forward that he prefers like Nombe who went with him to Rotherham from Exeter. People will rightfully argue that you can’t really turn down a player who will score 30 goals a season but then forget how we began to rely on him too much when he was here before and the team that he was in was one of the least attractive footballing wise that we have had in many a year . that simply does not fit in with our new Manager’s belief in the way that he wants to build his team and a style of play that will enable us to climb the Leagues hopefully , it would be short term success signing him but would it be ling term gain?

Peterborough United striker Jonson Clarke-Harris is still mulling over an offer from Charlton Athletic...almost a week after the clubs agreed an estimated £500k transfer fee.
It’s understood representatives of Clarke-Harris have talked terms with Charlton and a generous salary package is on the table, but the player could wait to see if better offers come in before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
But that would be dependent on another club agreeing to the asking price, something Posh believe won’t happen for a player who has been on the transfer list for the best part of a year.
It’s now thought wealthy League Two promotion fancies Wrexham did show an interest in a double Golden Boot winner, but are now looking elsewhere.
Clarke-Harris could stay at Posh for the rest of the season and then leave on a free transfer in the summer, something his current club are understandably keen to avoid.
Posh boss Darren Ferguson said: “Johnno has not yet agreed personal terms and I’m not sure how long Charlton will wait. It's up to Johnno what happens. It's in his hands. He's been fantastic for us, but he knows his playing time here will be limited now so he needs a fresh challenge."
Sounds like changing his wage demands last minute could well have been true

Or perhaps better offer is better geography, or a club in the championship.

Seems that there are a couple of scenarios here; either JCH/his agent are a pair of greedy bar stewards and don’t care where they play as long as the money’s right or he could be being particular as this is his last big opportunity before he gets too old?

The way it's panning out with Charlton makes me think that the problem back in the summer wasn't with rovers. No doubt he's class at this level but I'm thinking we did well to avoid signing him.
