I still can't understand why fellow supporters are convinced we need to strengthen up front (with potentially a transfer fee and huge wages on an aging player) vs at the back where we have more issues....
...now 22 games in total (21 in the league) since we failed to score. Still only failed to score in three games this season.
When you are scoring that often against so many different opponents (home and away, top/bottom of the table, league/cup) it's time to stop looking at our attackers and start look further back - clean sheets win games. Only four clean sheets in all competitions, the last one was in November...
When you look at the stats any money (transfer fees and/or wages) should be spent to stop us conceding goals.

When you look at the stats any money (transfer fees and/or wages) should be spent to stop us conceding goals. i think that we are more effective on the counter and playing a pressing game which means a mobile fast paced strike force. The problem at the moment is that our only regular goal scorer does not suit that sort of game and so we have to throw attackers forward and that leaves us short at the back which is exactly what happened on their second goal. If we had the right striker then we would be able to sit back away from home and defend a lead. That is not to say we dont need additional defensive cover because we do. We need both

For me if Martin goes elsewhere, there is no natural goal scorer left in the squad, then Taylor needs to decide what direction the club is going this season, if its bouncing along and flirting with the bottom of the table, do nothing; if the club is to progress then bring in JCH.

If he had no history with us no one would want us to sign him in this window. Yet because of that history, people seem to want us to pay over the odds for a player that is currently signed to a promotion chasing team yet isn't being picked...

Absolutely agree. Anyone at the game yesterday will tell you we looked really shaky when Barnsley came anywhere near our back line, but I’d say that going forward we were consistently the better team. Really missed Taylor and Wilson.

How long does Martins actually have left in him, how long can we go with Collins, Marquis and Brown not really contributing. Martins currently the only player that looks like scoring and and he is approaching 36. Our attacking options needs looking at.

As things stand I believe Martin and Marquis aren't under contract for next season so MT will have to go something in the summer. You do wonder what is intentions are with Collins, as it seems odd only giving him 10 min run outs when he tops the assists chart.

I can only presume he’s off, and he’s playing Brown in the vain hope he finds some form No way in my mind Brown starts over him otherwise I would think the club will entertain offers around £1 million and we won’t know what we’ve got til it’s gone! I would be looking elsewhere if I was him if you were getting overlooked in favour of brown

JCH can wind down his contract and go for nothing, or we offer 100k and give him decent wages, he holds all the cards, he wants to be back in Portishead.
They do not need him, he needs a new challenge, and they can then save on his wages, win win for everyone.
Not sure Matt would want him so might be totally irrelevant.

Where's any evidence he wants to move back to Postishead, isn't that just a Gaschat fact with no real foundation? The truth is he wants £7K+ a week over a 3 year contract and will sign for whoever agrees to pay it.

JCH still has a house in portishead and a girlfriend that lives there. He has been regularly spotted there during his time at the posh.

Fair point, one I hadn’t considered tbh. However I think it’s more complex than that. Generally we create more very good goal scoring chances than the opposition, but their goals:shot ratio seems to beat ours. So it’s an easier fix to finish out chances we already create, than change our back line, in theory anyway. In reality, we need to do both if we want to challenge next season.

We all watch league one football and follow the league table and goalscoring charts - everyone knows he’s been the best goal scorer at this level for the past few years regardless of whether he played for us before. I’ve yet to see these other better options that are so readily available.

So his GF lives with him at present, which is a bit different than wanting to join us because she still lives in the area. At the end of the day he'll sign for whoever makes him an acceptable offer, it seems Charlton haven't managed it. I'm not sure Wrexham can make one whilst they are still a L2 side.
