Mystifies me that we aren’t all over a 29 year old, 400k goal machine we were willing to pay double for in the summer, get it done!!!! It’s not as if we are against immobile strikers and aren’t begging a 35 year old to stay another 4 months 🙄 This is the issue causing debate among fans. We so called offered 800k for him a few months back. Since then 5 players have left the club Loft Belshaw Clarke Bogarde Woods with suggestions of more to follow. Talk about confused.Com

Apart from Charlton where he does not wan to go, so that offer is off the table. Why pay anything for a player who's only started one League game since the end of October [edit - not selected in the starting XI, no known injuries] ....the same fans who seem to want to sign him for/on big money as some kind of 'statement of intent' will probably also allow him the rest of this season to get back to full matchday fitness and/or forgive any dressing room disruption his large wages vs lack of goals bring.... Potentially he could play a role for us, but it needs to be on some kind of performance (both personal and team) related contract. A basic wage in keeping with the rest of the squad. Goal bonuses. Win bonuses. Promotion bonuses. That would keep most people happy, because if he comes in and has another six/twelve months like his last six months at Peterborough that's a waste of money for us - but if he can switch it on and bring the goals from day one he can earn the money people are suggesting he expects.

If Martin doesn't sign, we might renew our interest if Taylor wants him. But we don't need both. If we are signing another striker, we need a different kind of option.

If you were Peterborough and he doesn't get sold in January, would you:
1) Keep him for the rest of the season, just in case and suffer the financial impact.
2) Offer him 50% of the rest of his contract and terminate it.
Can you continue to sign free agents after the transfer deadline or is there a hard cut off after 1st Feb?

I know it's all speculation and maybes but if JCH had been signed we might well be playing Liverpool in a couple of weeks time and that would have more than covered the cost of buying him.

Time to give it a rest. I really hope he signs for someone soon. If we get a young pacy forward and sign Martin, JCH is a luxury we don’t need for the wages. Need to build a team that can compete for years and come. Use the money more wisely.

Especially if the rumours are true about the wages and length of contract are true. Would be a luxury that could backfire.

I am not sure what the deal is with signing free agents after the second transfer window closes? I did read somewhere that anyone who is released after the window closes will not be able to sign (well register) for another club in the current season. So based on that, Peterborough would have to come to an agreement to release JCH before the window closes which I think is highlight unlikely.

If Peterborough want to waive the transfer fee or agree to us buying up the remaining £160k of his contract and JCH was sensible with his wage demands, I'd take him.

I think something is going on as I can't see why he wouldn't sign for Charlton based on what he was supposedly offered. I can't see him wanting to sit on the bench for, four more months.
It could be that MT doesn't want JCH because of the total fee which will impact the rest of his transfer budget by the board and not the the actual player

It is being reported that JCH is keeping his head down and wants to stay at Posh untill his contract runs out, so that he can get a better deal with a new club. Posh want him gone because they are close to breaching the financial fair play regs. Chris Martin's contract ends on the 26th Jan so he won't be available for the Oxford game unless he signs a new contract. JCH and his agent messed with us, trying to get a better deal back in August , so I wonder whether we would now be interested in him, at the end of the day it is all about money. We are interested in a young midfielder from Exeter, so it has been reported down there, Harry Kite.

As we move closer to the window closing JCH’s value is plummeting to the point I do genuinely think his fee could be the remainder of his contract paid to him as a signing on fee when Posh release him on the 31st of January. Now, it’s a huge gamble but I could see that being very palatable for Rovers and Jonson. It’s just a huge gamble both with that potentially not happening and not renewing Martin’s deal.
