1st January 1989 - Bristol C*ty 0 Bristol Rovers 1. My namesake flicked the ball on for Gary Penrice to score the winner. An unforgettable day and I remember being in awe of Nigel Martyn

I did manage to find a match result and Perryman was among the scorers which suggests a strong team (he was captain in that era) and a different match to the one which I watched just googled a tweet from Keeith Brookman about it. Garth Crooks and Perryman Spurs scorers , Paul Randall amongst ours in a 3-2 defeat.
That side would have included Villa , Hoddle , Ardiles.....
Ah loved that game, Spurs were my 2nd side for quite a while following being there for this one.

Surprised at how little I remember though , I suppose being a school kid with everyone around you being twice your size , and 40 years + ago.
Like I said the memory I do recall is Ardiles on the sacred Eastville turf. Brilliant player ,brilliant team.

I spent my early life in Calne, Wiltshire and my first league game was Swindle v Plymouth in 1967 aged 9. Our neighbour took me but I wasn't very interested. Swindle won 3-0. Moving to Bristol my dad, who was a Sheffield Wednesday supporter). Took me to the Gloucestershire Cup final at the end of the 1967-8 season at AG. It finished 1-1 and I clearly remember Chris Crowe being stretchered off with a broken leg. The other lads in my Bishopston primary school revealed the true path to me and my first game was against Watford, the first game of the 1968-9 season.

I also remember sometimes catching the 83 bus from Kellaway Avenue, but more often would walk from Bishopston down the Muller road and back aged 10 or 11, usually with two or three mates. I'm sure this would be frowned upon as irresponsible parenting these days.

JPT final, Millennium Stadium, I was 12. Hated football, always did, didn't want to be there.
Wasn't until I turned about 16/17 that I got into it, think my first game I went to of my own volition was the 2-2 draw/penalty shootout defeat to Exeter in the JPT in 2010.

Feb 1977. Home to Fulham with Moore and best in their side. Can't think if there was ever a game we had two genuine world sports stars at a rovers game since?

Aston Villa at Eastville in 1979. I was 6 years old, still got the programme at home. Think we won 3-1
My 2nd game was vs Chelsea at Eastville in the FA Cup

It was 17th September 1966. I was 6 years old and just getting into football after the World Cup win.
My grandfather, who lived within earshot of Eastville Stadium and used to tell me about the legendary 'Eastville Roar', asked me if I wanted to go to a game. Shortly afterwards, tickets for that home fixture against Swindon arrived; for him, my Cousin - and me!
My parents bought me the obligatory bobble hat, scarf, rattle and rosette, and suitably attired we made the short trip to the ground to take our seats in the South Stand. We won the match 3-0 and I can still remember the way the stand seemed to sway with the noise from the crowd when we scored.....and I was hooked. From then on I would badger my Dad every Saturday morning to take me to matches, which happily he did...
Been going ever since - sadly my Grandfather, Dad and Cousin are no longer with us, but I go with my youngest son - so that's 4 generations of the family supporting the Rovers over the last 57 years or so. And long may it continue. Wouldn't change a thing.

It would have been at Twerton in 88. I can't remember who it was against, but I think it finished 2 2 π. I just looked at the results from that season and the game against Chester finished 2 2. So it might have been that one π.

Liverpool opening match 1961-62. They went up and we went down that season.

Rovers v Brighton on 20 April 1968, at age 7. Won 3-1. My only memory of it is asking my brother why one of our players was wearing number 12, as I thought the game was for 11 players. So our sub that day, Alex Munro, was the first player I was aware of.
I went to one game the next season, Hartlepool, then all but one home match in 1969/70, I was allowed to walk the nearly 2 miles to the ground on my own which might be frowned upon now.

1966. The family had just moved up from Paignton and I needed a new team to support. Typically the first game I saw was against Torquay. Mixed emotions that day when Rovers won.

Pretty sure my first game was a 0-1 defeat to Brentford in 1990 at Twerton?
We definitely lost.

17th April 1976 at Eastville v Southampton. My Dad got tickets for the North Stand I was aged 10 and took my seat. I remember being mesmerised by the noise from the Tote and became instantly hooked. (Rovers won 2-0 Frankie Prince getting both) Good job I was hooked really because my next game was a 5-1 drubbing by Wolves at Eastville. Which was the last time Rovers had a home attendance for a league match in excess of 20k.
