I was too young to remember the exact game - or even year right now - but it was at Twerton Park. I used to get taken to games by a neighbour who worked behind the scenes.
I had the privilege of meeting a young Marcus Stewart after one game for the man of the match presentation. I was wearing a Green and Black quartered away shirt if that helps with dating it.

Pretty sure my first game was a 0-1 defeat to Brentford in 1990 at Twerton? We definitely lost. We lost 2-0 I believe

I also remember sometimes catching the 83 bus from Kellaway Avenue, but more often would walk from Bishopston down the Muller road and back aged 10 or 11, usually with two or three mates. I'm sure this would be frowned upon as irresponsible parenting these days. Me and a couple of mates used to do the same from Horfield. I don't think your even allowed to attend at that age without an adult now.

24/03/1979 v Oldham at Eastville in the uncovered part of the North Enclosure - the most boring 0-0 imaginable. In fact four of my first five football matches were 0-0.

My dad took me to the Stoke City match at Eastville for my first Rovers match on 20th January 1962. We scored both and lost 2 nil. I had previously gone to Ashton Gate to see City beat Notts County 6 nil on the 16th December 1961.

Had a wee scroll through, first game ‘66, ‘78, ‘57, 1928, that was it for me😄 may have to start another thread to engage with the younger element. My first rovers game in colour? My grandad told me the matches he went to in the 50s were actually played in black and white because the club couldn't afford colour.

27th December 1969, whilst visiting relatives in Yorkshire, Dad decided he was going to take me to my first ever football match! Imagine my excitement at the prospect of watching Leeds v Everton, who were first and second in the old first division at the time. Unfortunately, by the time we reached Elland road, the gates were closed, with a full house already inside. Still determined I was to go a match of some sort, Dad consulted his newspaper and discovered that the nearest other option was Halifax Town v Bristol Rovers. I can’t remember much about the game, other than it was freezing cold, Rovers wearing red and white stripes and missing the opening goal, due to being in a queue for some disgusting lumpy tomato soup. It wasn’t exactly love at first sight, but I guess the seed must have been planted and it was probably the Stoke City league cup quarter final, where I was finally hooked for life.

Reading at Twerton 1988 or 89. FA cup replay I think. Midweek under the floodlights. 0-0 if I recall. Not got much better since!

Rovers 1-3 Southport, September 1967. My dad had taken me to the darkside as he supported them, I found it boring. My older brother took me to Eastville and the difference was amazing! Loved it from the off.

I must admit I have no idea who played. I was just mesmerised by the floodlights and smell of stale sweat, beer and fags!

Yeah think you're right that it wasn't Mabs testimonial ,but do remember someone on this forum posting the programme cover a few years back , ( before I joined ).
Would be interesting to see the Spurs line up .
This is it , pretty much all star Spurs side Centenery match
I thought we also played Newcastle Utd in our centenary at Eastville? McDermott and Keegan just a memory and in awe at these legends gracing the hallowed turf ...?

68/69 Season Home v Bournemouth & Boscombe... My dad used to take me to Rovers on the train one week and City by bus the week after. I hated that bus ride, and the rest is history ...

Southampton at the Dell in 1978 I think. Saints were promoted and won 3-1. Bobby Gouldcwas playing for Rovers. My Dad was a Saints fan and Rovers were my second team as a kid. They became my team of choice in 1984. First game after that was a 5-1 cup win at Swindle I think I went to that game as Swindon were then one of the nearest teams to where I lived. If it is the game, then it was a sweltering hot day and I think the away end gave Mr Macari a bit of stick!!

Remember cheering on Mark O’Connor who was brought in ( on loan?) to take his place in the team - must have been an incredibly hard role for him and a difficult game for the team. What a response from the boys that day.
