I understand some of Somersets thoughts but with others struggling to find the net regularly Chris is filling a gap putting the ball away too well to pass up signing him til seasons end. He is not the future and he’s not gonna help the team enough in other areas like others do, but he has the quality and possibly more importantly his football brain buys him the yards to score that his legs no longer can.

I'd sign Chris Martin until next January in my opinion

Keep him as a great player to bring on for the last 20-30 mins , scores goals . No brainer really unless he’s on a massive wedge.

Since Taylor has come in there has been a more urgency to get consistent crosses into the box from out wide where as Barton wanted a possession based game looking for openings. I can’t remember a game for a long time where we put so many balls on the box second half at Wycombe and this man is a master at getting onto them. Balls in the box against Charlton, one man on the end of them. Reading was the same. Agree with the other poster, ideal for the last 20-30 mins coming on, tiring defences, openings for him. He did struggle first half at Wycombe, terrible service and he’s never going to make his own goals like Agogo, Hoskins, Roberts, Lambert, Ellington could do. He’s an asset to us, if have him over Marquis any day as well. Goals win you points, John does all the work effort but without goals you can’t win games and Chris Martin is currently scoring 1 goal every 2 games for us, best goal per game record in the squad www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/bristol-rovers/top-scorers

16 league games, 8 goals, his peers have played 24 in some cases, if he had played this, he’d be on 12 plus league goals and one of the top scorers in the league. Questioning him to me is crazy, he has the best MPG in Div1 doing this unfit! www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/league-one/top-scorers

I would sign him for 18 months personally as with a proper pre season under his belt could be vital for us next season. Just think what he could have done in this team with a proper pre season and played all the games you would be looking at a 20+ goal striker that is important to any team looking to gain promotion.

Extending his contract is a must.
The question is for how long?
Sure at this stage of his career he will be looking for 18 months rather than just to the end of the season - would MT be happy to commit to that?

If we can’t get better he will be great til season’s end , but Matt is after a different type of player it appears which is probably why an extension is yet to be offered 👍🏾

It’s just interesting he said talks are on going Saturday after the game and wouldn’t he be looking for the ideal player and stalling Chris who has the whole month with us anyway?

Talks on going with Chris, other clubs interested in him as well. Taylor would like 3 strikers on the books by end of the window, let’s see hey. Sorry for frustrating you pal 👍

Could have already signed an extension for all we know.

In the middle of the season with us unlikely to seriously challenge for the play offs getting CM to sign an extension seems a no-brainer of an idea. Of course we should sign him until we have a better option. And at the moment we don’t have a better option than him and JM as options for No. 9.
It’s a bit of a continuing story getting a No. 9 with some pace. We haven’t had one of those for a few years. JCH was an excellent striker but he wasn’t really that mobile but it never stopped him being effective. If MT wants a pacier forward as some say then I’m sure he will have a list that he will be chasing. But until we have that forward sign CM on an extended contract until at least the end of the season.
UTG!
edit: thinking about it I suppose Saunders might have been pacier but he wasn’t an out and out striker was he?

In the old days, even back to the DC days we played two up front, it’s about about a 9 now on his own up front. I do like the front 3 option Liverpool play. What I can’t believe is we started the season with two 9’s. You need three of them, let’s we say sign one and let Martin go as Equaliser has been told (I’ve heard different), you get and injury and you are playing 20, 15, 10 games with one striker.

We have to keep him at least until next season, he doesn’t want a move. Unlikely we will get an improvement in Jan so unless we are building for next season at the expense of this one it’s a no brainier

Btw everyone I haven’t been told Martin has been let go, as usual Roadie doesn’t read anything properly. Please ignore him 🤦🏾♀️ I don’t ever pretend to be in the know, I’m not and never will be.

Just to be clear I suggested/discussing Matt was looking for a quicker option up front, I didn’t say I knew, I didn’t say “I’ve been told I was just suggesting it because it seems lots of others are saying that’s what he’s after, and that Chris Martin is a great fall back if he doesn’t get what he wants 👍🏾
