Just to be clear I suggested/discussing Matt was looking for a quicker option up front, I didn’t say I knew, I didn’t say “I’ve been told I was just suggesting it because it seems lots of others are saying that’s what he’s after, and that Chris Martin is a great fall back if he doesn’t get what he wants 👍🏾 Haven't posters put 2 & 2 together and decided that MT's looking for pace upfront when in reality we haven't a clue what he's looking for or even if he's looking for a strikers beyond JM & CM. Still seems odd to me MT said he was in talks but CM said at the same time he's heard nothing from the club about extending his contract!!

Absolutely Topper, I made a huge mistake believing another poster had been told Matt was looking for ‘pace upfront’ and commented/discussed it further and my comments have since been completely misinterpreted. Lesson learnt 👍🏾

If we can get better than 1 goal in every 2 games at Div1 level, we are going to be spending a lot of money. Matt is looking for a different type of player as I said, if he can get his man he won’t go with Chris in my opinion. Pretty much the situation with Peterborough and JCH. Still scoring goals but doesnt fit their vision of how they want to play going forward

Two 95 mins plus games in 6 days and Chris Martin is looking fitter.
Ran his heart out today, some brilliant hold up play, flick on and defensive play as well.
It’s clear Taylor rates him so much by not even taking him off.
I really hope we resign him soon, I’ve heard talks on going about an 18 month deal.

After the match Chris Martin's nephew told me CM is very happy and settled living in Bristol. I would like CM to stay to help coach a production line of young strikers.

I'm told he's on 6k a week This is my worry. Cant argue he can score but we can’t extend this beyond end of season But we don’t have to offer him 6k at that stage , 4k take it or leave it . He’ll be 36 then ? Relatively settled after a season . Is he going to want to move again or be in that much demand ? His star is diminishing and I’m pretty sure he’d say yes. whether or not I’d pay 4k of my division 1 budget on a player his age for the last 20 mins of a game is a different question…… probably not. 3k tops.

I'm told he's on 6k a week I would be staggered if he’s on this but I’ve been told Sinclair is near on this. We were going to offer Chris a deal until 31st July but AlSaeed Jnr pulled the plug on it until end of Jan. Now Martin has all the cards, clubs all over him but he wants to stay but rightly, he’s playing hard ball now. His interviews give this away, he’s really cool on it all, Notts County rumoured, he’s ideal for a side needing promotion in Div2. *DC gave Liam Lawrence the same sort of deal, he was with us in Div2 and into 1. *Oxford paying Brannigan £10k a week, wages in Div1 are mental now, Barry Bannan was on £20k a week last season at our level!

How well did he play today ? To those who were at the game . well disciplined staying central and high up the pitch so the Norwich Central defenders Hanley and Batth didn't get far forwards other than for set pieces. Linked play well. Good to see our midfield not dropping so deep as in some other matches. Brown had a good chance to pass to CM for a goal but Brown instead took a shot.

If we buckled to his demands we’d be absolute mugs. We’ve all seen what’s on offer , no movement but a strong ox upfront who can finish . He’s only going backwards, 3-4k or off you toddle to the division below. He’ll sign.

We’d have budgeted for the South Stand to be open and Martin could easily have been a Pitman or Leon Clarke. Hindsight and all that……….

Wow! Some mental wages there. But, if we want to compete seriously then we will have to pay what the best clubs are paying. And that is a question only the owners can answer. Perhaps the other thing to consider is how much are we paying players who have long term injuries or who were signed with question marks over their fitness or even players who are on the fringes of the first team but seem to feature rarely nowadays. Players can’t help being injured and it might seem unfair or a tad harsh on them but we seem to have more than our fair share. I’m sure MTs approach in recruiting may be different. In other words get better value for what we spend perhaps. Whatever, we will have to pay good wages to compete and to think otherwise is unrealistic. UTG!

I remember when Barton was getting excited about signing this quality player ….. I guessed it was Sinclair. A player who’d struggled in the championship at Preston but was made out to be a coup of a signing …… ex Gas connections helped. I was totally underwhelmed…. He hasn’t pulled up trees has he ? It’s very easy to fall into the trap of signing players who were once great .

Great link by Gasheadontour, £5k is the old £3k, he will get £6k a week easy at someone like Notts County getting 13,000 gates. There will be no transfer or signing on fee, and I still think he gets us goals next season, he’s looking more and more fitter now
