A club without a plan, joined up thinking and sh** recruitment. We've had plans, but we have changed them too much to suit the managers. Started off with a development squad and looking to to sign young players. That changed completely under Barton though, when he decided to put the budget into the first team squad instead and sign mainly experienced players for the here and now. Now it looks like we are going back to the original method. We need to have a long term plan, that stays in place, who ever the manager is! Yes, the manager needs a bit of say, but that does not mean ripping everything up and starting again every time! I like the sound of our current plan, but hopefully we can achieve it this time and not change as soon as we hit a few hurdles. Exactly the issue. You should be able to replace parts but the machine remains the same... Even if it does become a bit Trigger's Broom.

If I knew top 10.was our aim I would never of bought a season ticket We’ve finished top half just once in our last 11 seasons in League One. Top 10 very much should be the aim! I go every season hoping to make the playoffs not top 10

If we had just tinkered in January with what we had then we would have been chasing play offs instead of worrying about relegation. Good young players dont come cheap and good young strikers with a proven record will cost over 1m. As regards bringing in our own youngsters to get any of the best youngsters is at least a five year plan and certainly wont gat you to the Championship in 3 years. Look at City it took them 10 years before they started getting top youngsters and it is only the last three yaers where they have done excellently and that is mainly down to their facilities and being a Championship side. The gap between the two sides now is the widest in my lifetime.

No chance, hence the 3 years references. We need to balance the playing side with making real progress here. Buying promotion will only lead to more debt on the credit card with little to no longer term benefit. It's frustrating that plans have been repeatedly kicked down the road for boom and bust stuff really. I'm hoping we are building short and long term plans around ensuring the feasibility of the club going forward over everything. I'd argue we're 15-20 years behind in regards to the three things that baggins mentioned. Yep, we've a difficult, sometimes contradictory, and definitely expensive, circle to square. Reduce losses to a realistic level. Build a team for the next two to four seasons, not blow the budget hoping to go up within one. Get the stadium up to standard. Improve revenue streams. Upgrade the Quarters. Form a Development Team. Improve the pathway from schoolboys to First Team. And more. That requires a strategy that looks at the short, medium and long term. I know some think this isn't the time to rebuild the Mem and we should concentrate elsewhere, I wholeheartedly disagree. Without improving the Mem and getting the infrastructure right, we'll struggle to attract players, fans, investors, etc and we'll continue down this path of stagnation. Something has to change and soon.

I know this thread has gone slightly off topic, but I would whole heartedly take staying in league on for the next few years, be it mid table or slightly higher whilst the ground get its revamp. Let’s ensure we don’t go down whilst trying to entertain and let’s see what they have in store for the east side. Then we could move forward with confidence.

I'm pretty sure it would have taken more than just a bit of tinkering, we needed a new goalie, CB, two FB's and another decent striker as a minimum. That's probably the best part of £1m just on a gamble we'd make the play offs.

If we had just tinkered in January with what we had then we would have been chasing play offs instead of worrying about relegation. . Please, this is insane. 1st of January - 9 points off the Playoffs & 11 off the Relegation Spots. 31st of January - 13 points off the Playoffs & 10 off the Relegation Spots. End of the Season - 19 points off the Playoffs & 13 off the Relegation Spots. It was never on either way and would have been a total waste of money.

MT's former club seems to know how to get decent value for their young players?

If we had just tinkered in January with what we had then we would have been chasing play offs instead of worrying about relegation First you are debating Jed Ward's factual height and now you're say 'if we had just tinkered in January' when we made minimal signings... We're in for a long summer

I go every season hoping to make the playoffs not top 10 Of course we all hope to, but given the league is much stronger next season (Birmingham, Huddersfield, Steve Evans' Rotherham, Reading and Wigan sorting their financial messes out, Wrexham and Stockport coming up, Mansfield will be competitive too), and that 70% of our squad has left - a top half finish would be a tremendous success, given we've done it only ONCE in the last 11 attempts at this level. Need to walk before we can run.

In our current set up, a top ten season on the verge of playoffs would be a stunning season in my opinion. We've not go to the third tier playoffs in 26 years!
