And we’re off…..will he? Won’t he? I think the jury’s out for me as to whether he’s championship class, that’s a tough division. We are a selling club of course our better players are going to go, usually sooner than later, gone past caring now. Football has no loyalty anymore, Harold J Geoff Bradford etc it’s wam bam and thank you on instagram as they go off holding a cashier cheque aloft, bye gasheads thanks for the memories, next minute holding aloft the new shirt with the manager and chairman by their side. One thing I’m sure is the players coming in need to be hungry and proud to play for us not more mercenaries or un tried youth players. Totally unfair to compare 1950’s players with today’s players in my opinion. The world has changed beyond recognition since then. Whatever happens I will wish Antony all the best in his future, I’d like to think we get a large sum for him but somehow can’t see us getting as much as hoped, it’s how we roll. And of course the 50s also had the maximum wage so it didn’t really pay people to move around. You wouldn’t get any more playing in Division 1 than you may in Division 3 South. I’m sure some did but no real incentive then to move. UTG! edit: sorry ash….you beat me to it.

And even out of contract players could have their registration held by the club to stop them moving anywhere!!

For him and us the signing of a raised extended contract in the near future is something of a canny option. . If he wants to jump ship what's canny about him signing an extended contract? I doubt he cares what transfer fee we get, his only concern will be joining the right club and getting a decent contract offer.

Will wish him well if he goes, but hope we can persuade him to stay. He doesn't seem to have fitness issues and to replace him would cost at least what we'll probably get for him anyway. I think he's capable of more, seems to have all the attributes and works hard for the team. He'd hopefully step up further if we built the team around him and Conteh in midfield, with some pace upfront for him to supply. Scores goals, creates goals and works hard, we'd do very well to get another of him if he does leave.

Sad to see Evo go, get the best price including hefty % sell on, then re invest some of it into the squad.
Will be excited to see a new team built, but they'll need a fair few pre season friendlies to gel.

Has he actually gone then? Not as far as I am aware, the local Portsmouth rag publishes that Pompey are interested in him, Gaschat picks up on it and than Dan Hargreaves jumps on the bandwagon. If the rumours are true or not Rovers are in the driving seat on this and hopefully if an approach comes, tell them it’s a seven figure sum as starters.

Any other examples of fees players go for in similar circumstances given that Peterborough are a special case?

Someone's put an offerin for him or shown interest and gas chat says he's gone great!!

Hope I’m wrong but can see this all ending in tears

Plus nobody appears to have put in an offer and it's not even clear from the the article if Pompey are even interested in signing Evo, or the reporter hasn't just made up a story based on MT's comments about offering Evo a new deal. Given Pompey have just won the L1 Championship then you do have to wonder if Evo is any better than their present CM's.

A precedent has already been set. Then 25-year-old Siriki Dembele moved for millions with a year left of his contract. Depends how much a club wants him. As with everything the value is only what someone will pay. Few league 1 players will turn down the chance to prove themselves so I guess he will be on his way. Good luck to him and lets hope we get a fair fee.

If we let him go (let’s be optimistic and say £1m) there are two questions, 1) Will the owner allow that money to be re-invested in to the first team? 2) Do we trust MT to spend £1m wisely? The problem with selling before you buy is clubs tend to up the price if they know the money is there to spend.

Don't begrudge the bloke a move, but when we sell our best players relegation normally follows. Collins and Evans were the two players who you could see wouldn't look out of place in the championship. Shows a total lack of ambition from the club. When we had new owners I thought great, finally we've got a better chance of hanging on to our best players and building around them. If we lose Evans as well I think we really will struggle next season

If we lose Evans as well I think we really will struggle next season We’ve offered him a new contract so not a lack of ambition. But if he doesn’t want to sign then we probably need to be brutal and sell. Peterborough would. If we can get Pompey and Bolton and more competing then a decent fee is possible. Re invest like we did with some of the Collins money in up and coming youngsters. Again like Peterborough
