Asked whether dipping into the free agent market is a possibility, Taylor said: "Of course it is. Chris Martin signed in September last year so that's a prime example of what can be achieved if you're sensible in that market.
..there are still a lot of good players who aren't tied down anywhere else and I think that will still be the case after the next couple of days."

Not super clued up on Corner Wickham would he have the fitness and finishing required in league one these days? If he's willing, could invite him into training to find out? The underlying data from 22/23 and 23/24 (small sample size I know) is decent. And the goal (see below) and assist he got last season were quality, not to mention some of the excellent goals he scored for an abysmal FGR side at this level. His 6ft 3in frame and way he leads the line is ideal and the ability to score a goal out of nothing could he vital in a side that creates little. There are other concerns, but not in terms of ability for me.

Having weighed all that up, I'd still take him on a deal until January.

He played 4 games and scored 1 goal at Charlton at the end of last season so clearly still capable at this level, I guess it's down to what contract he's no w looking for, probably short term just to get himself in the shop window.

Given his injury issues at Derby I'm not sure we can risk signing a striker who may have long term hamstring problems to replace one with a broken fibula.

It’s not like we’ve had long to look for a decent striker since January, and here we are yet again on the close of Transfer window, but hey ho, we are building for the future ala Garner.

We signed two in the summer costing £650K/£750K who much did fans really expect us to pay for strikers? The fact neither looks worth the money at the moment is another issue. MT said all summer the next striker signed would probably be a young loanee which is what we've signed today, perhaps CM's injury has changed matters and we'll also now need to sign a short term replacement for him.

I fear Taylor is Garner in disguise 😱😱😱😱😱. Oh well, he’s certainly been backed so let’s hope he’s spent well. UTG!

Both seem to have been given the same remit in developing players, perhaps if MT was just told to go and sign a top 6 challenging squad he would have signed entirely different players, although it's still baffling how the club hope to make a return on Omochere's transfer fee.

Was it actually 500k?

We shall see. He’s 3 games into his tenure with us and shows potential so don’t write him off.
