It's Mr Taylor's team now, so there can be no excuses if we don't have strikers (plural) by the beginning of the season. It's all apparently under control though.(Whether that's for the promotion push from League 2 in 25/26 is not yet clear). UTFG etc 🏴☠️ Do I sense some misgivings about our new leader? Quite a few, but hope to be as wide of the mark as a Martin Cameron shot on goal.

The rwo Strikrts that we ssre brong linked with at the moment are
Promise Omochere (Fleetwood) Josh Coburn (Middlesborough)
Im a bit Meh about about Promise Omochere but it eould fit into the mould of the Ruel Sotiriou signing from Leyton Orient. Think it would strenthen us and is about the right age experiance. Has one year left on his contract so like us selling Evans, Fleetwood could feel forced to sale.
Josh Coburn i could get excited abput! Knows the club, knows Bristol. Proven at the level (by us) would defo streghen us. Heart says yes, yes, yes! Head says he will go to a championship club.
Sigm both and i will think ive underpaid for my season ticket!

Didn't see that much in Josh Coburn, had a couple of good games, ran around a bit, but I don't think he even scored many.

I haven’t seen any link to Coburn, aside from general discussion that he may be available I think it just stems from Danny Mills saying: "There is nothing like the experience of playing week in, week out, so it's up to Carrick as to whether he feels Coburn is a player who can make the first XI week in week out. "If not, then there is no harm to be loaned out to get game experience."(source: footballleagueworld.co.uk/middlesbrough-fc-danny-mills-michael-carrick-josh-coburn/)

I personally think it was a good first loan where he showed plenty of potential and rightly named our Young Player of the Year. We will do well to get someone of that quality again and I don't think there is any chance of a permanent deal with him likely out of our price range. If they are loaning him to League One again - possibly.

Interestingly, (and it's not an excuse) I changed phone's halfway through writing it.

Second highest scorer, with 10 goals in 35 games, inc a 2 month goal drought. I don't think the manager helped him by saying he could play for England in the future and think defences sussed/bullied him a bit in the second half of the season, where i remember thinking so often that he rarely got any defence from the ref.

Definitely got found out by opposing teams after awhile. Unless he's added something to his game since I'm nit sure I'd want him back tbh

This. He was climbed all over illegally by by carthorse centre halves in our division. No protection from our poor refs who ignored the fouls. Will it be any different this time if he comes on loan - or has he learned the physical side of the game and will now give out more than he receives!

Key position, more goals = more success. It should be the biggest portion of the budget. Like last season if you don’t score enough goals we will just be making up the numbers or worse. Failure to get this right and Matt will become another failed X Bristol Rovers manager. The benefits of investing in a proven goal scorer far outweigh what a loanee can yield. Get it right or get gone. Simples

Defence and midfield look promising . McCormick and Brown absolute featherweights and can only see them as bench warmers. Still planning on getting over for a few games from Oz but might wait and see how we start off or even the last few games before promotion 🤡 Stoney UTG

If rumours are true, we appear to be willing to spend £300k ish on a striker/winger, but arent going to overpay. Hopefully we can get one over the line soon and a loanee for the other position. Coburn/Promise or Evans/young winger ideally sorted by the trip to Portugal!
We may not be a genuine promotion contender or have loads to spend but maybe tempting as we can offer likely first choice and guarantee of games, plus they can learn from Martin (should be a positive for Coburn/Middlesborough)

The more I think about it the more I like the idea. Knows the club, a proven goal scorer, older, wiser, stronger, Martin to learn from and Friend's link....I think if we're interested and Middlesborough are going to loan him (only speculation at the mo) this would be a good fit for everyone....fingers crossed

If I remember correctly both Coburn and Collins goal scoring dried up at the sametime that season and it appeared to me that sides had found us out and adjusted their tactics accordingly. Interestingly Collins still won the league one player of the season award in spite of his decline in form for the final few months of that season.
