Just hope we get a goodbye message - nothing so far. Would leave a sour taste. Yeah was thinking that. Did we even get a word from Rossiter ?

Sad to see Evans go as always stopped for a car park chat after home games .... decent lad.
Strange move for him but wish him well ....

Evans struggling and "out of his depth" during our first season back in L1 is another 'gaschat fact' to file in the category with "useless Jason Roberts" and "fat waste of money midfielder Rickie Lambert." Lol. Evans 11th best for xA Expected Assists and 8th for xA Per 90 during 22/23 and basically up there in the top 90%+ percentile ranking for several of the shooting and passing metrics too. A good first ever full season in League One and he's obviously kicked on again to be statistically one of the top 20 performing players in the division last season. He's too good for us and better off moving to a club where his talent can flourish and not struggling at the wrong end of the table. Just a shame the fee is so derisory. Out of his depth a bit harsh maybe, but certainly he wasn't as good in game as the stats suggest. Often bullied off the ball, wayward passing, found it hard to find space and his formed dipped enough that he didn't make the starting 11 on occasion. Especially when players like Collins just carried on where they left off. Like I said, he is a very good player, but I don't think he's going to make the difference that everyone thinks he will. Interesting in that assuming the add-ons for both Evo and Collins include match appearances, goals and/or assists and promotion, we want them and the clubs that bought them both to do well. That would be really tough if we are up there battling with them at the end of the season, but I suspect not this season.

Page 13, the player did well for us over three seasons yet the heading STILL CANNOT SPELL HIS NAME!!!

I'm surprised the fee is only £450k plus add-ons. Perhaps other clubs don't rate him as highly as the Gas fans or his stats suggest. The other possibility is that Evans would only entertain a move back up north and that ruled out possible moves other clubs such as Portsmouth or Birmingham even if they might have offered more if we had waited a few weeks.
Still if frees up £200k or so in wages as well as the £450k fee. That's better than a disgruntled player winding down a contract.

Often bullied off the ball, wayward passing, found it hard to find space and his formed dipped enough that he didn't make the starting 11 on occasion. Pretty much how I see it. Not all his own fault though. With the utter garbage that the team served up during the last few months of the campaign, he often found himself isolated and outnumbered in the opposition half, and with no viable option to pass to, would be forced to dwell on the ball until he lost possession. And then our attack became their attack.

Sorry to see Evo go, never nice to see a quality player leave, but that’s football, we’ve lost our player of the year to Huddersfield, whilst Walsall & Morecambe have lost theirs to us. Sure Evo will get a good reception when he returns to the Mem, always gave his best & play for the shirt, whist some others around him appeared to down tools.

“Once a Gashead always a Gashead”…… until a bigger club that pays more comes along ! 😂 You could take the view that in re-signing when we got promoted (when many thought he wouldn't) his transfer fee has paid his last two years wages at the Gas and so he has effectively played for us for nothing for the last two years.

Well, I suppose you could but tbh it’s a bit of a stretch!! 🤔. (But I know what you mean.) A good ‘goodbye’ message imo. And yatton, it’s always been the case hasn’t it? Can’t expect players to feel the same as supporters, we'll be here next year some players won’t. I’m sure Tom L considers himself a gashead in some ways and Evo earned us more than he did. So fair play to Evo, wish him success in the future, at least for 44 games next season! UTG! UTG!

Very good point about Tom Lockyer.

Very good point about Tom Lockyer. I think it’s a stretch!! But you are right insofaras doing it this way is the way to do it. It’s the way to sustainability, get players free or very cheaply and sell them a year before the contract ends for a good price. Posh have been doing it for years as we did back in the 90s and 00s. Do it this way with another 3/4 players and we’ll almost look as if it’s planned! 😉 UTG!

Joined us at 12 years old and achieved two promotions as well as being club captain!

Are you holding him to a higher level of loyalty because he joined us so young then gained two promotions? Or because he did that he can be excused from running his contract down. Just not clear. He had every right to do what he did just as Evo has done. Anyway, been, done, gone. Good luck to them both. 👍 UTG!

Infact you said he earned us more than Lockyer did, which is of course true. Ignore me! 😂

C’mon Mods - change the heading - spell Evo’s name right!!! (There is no H in Antony!) You’ve had 3 years to learn.
