I hope us accepting this offer means that we have a replacement lined up. Too often in the past have we sold our best player and been frantically searching around for a replacement in the rest of the window. Surely the replacement is Hutchinson! I was going to say the same. It was always going to be hard to keep Evans, but as soon as we signed Hutchinson I thought that meant Evans didn't want to sign a new deal and that he was the replacement. For once, we got a player in first! |

We could also have a sell on clause etc. With only a year left, we were never going to get loads as a year ago be wasn't good enough for League 1 according to a lot of fans! Great technically, but he still has to improve his all round game. |

Going to be plenty of pressure on these new boys to hit the ground running. Sad to see Evans go, but he's a top player at this level and we as a club can't match his ambitions. This will weaken us significantly, first few games will be squeeky bum time, hopefully we will have enough to stay out of the bottom four.

At £450,000 we should say to AE he’s not going anywhere and he’s under contract for another year. If he continues his good form we may consider offers in Jan if the price is right. In todays market that is seriously water take money. UTG (Heres hoping he’s still our player if offers don’t reach our minimum of £750,000) |

Wouldn't take less than 800+ clauses for Evo! And would want us to get a good target man and midfielder out of the proceeds. Say the offer was £600,000. By saying no we are effectively paying £600,000 for a player and giving them a 12 month contract. Is that good value? Then sell him for £300K in a forced sale in January! |

Nothing we can do if Evans wants a move sadly. I think £450k is abit low to be honest. Perhaps but tbh it will be ‘undisclosed’ anyway. I doubt we’ll ever know the exact fee, just a Gaschat fact!! 😉 And in the end we will get what the buyer is prepared to pay, no more. If no one is prepared to pay £600k then he isn’t going to go for that. I suppose we could hold out but I bet MT wants a real positive vibe around the place not a cloud waiting to rain on us. UTG! |

Peterborough still get decent fees for players in the last year of their contract. no excuse for us not to for our best players |

Question needs to be asked, what needs to be done so we can compete with likes of Huddersfield. Is this it for us, continue to lose better players to clubs in the same league.

Why would offers around £600k be acceptable, if AE wants/is to be sold. End of last summers window we were (reportedly) prepared to pay £800k for a 29 year old JCH who also had a year left of his contract as AE does. Difference being AE potentially has his best years ahead whereas JCH was considered past his best by many. Minimum £1m plus add-ons for me, we must not roll over as we hold the power in any negotiation. Worst case we get another year of AE in the squad or sell in January in an inflated market. That is a good point well made. However, are we prepared to take the same risks as Peterborough and then lose that when he leaves on a free? |
