JW is still young bet there isn’t a keeper his age in the league with the same amount of games In his defence Josh Griffiths is 18 months older than Jed and has made 126 league and cup appearances, whereas Jed has made 24 league and cup appearances. I don't think he's here just to sit on the bench.

From a Lincoln fan on a League 1 forum....
"Been three years since he was here now but he started quite nervously and ended up as a decent loan GK. Nowhere near as dominant as he should be for someone his size (he's 6'5"ish), so you'll need fairly dominant CB's to cover that. Decent shot stopper, average distribution.
Probably the weakest GK we've had in L1 but the standard is pretty high tbf."
A more experienced taller GK than Jed....don't think he's the answer though....if we were going to bring in a replacement for Jed then would have been happier with a permanent....hopefully they have an equal chance!

I was thinking Neal Etheridge or someone with his experience, they could have helped then with Jeds development.

I am disappointed with a season long loan and think we should have signed a permanent keeper who we could rely on for 3 years. As regards Jed Ward there is little doubt even with this signing that he will end up number 2. I will be very surprised if even League 2 sides will want him as number 1 at this stage of his career. Leagues 1 & 2 are tough for young keepers because of the aerial assaults you get in these divisions. I am just disappointed that MT could not get an experienced permanent keeper.

I guess if we sign an experienced No 1 then where does that leave JW for the next couple of seasons, if we sign a young loan player at least JW can replace him in January or next summer, assuming he keeps on developing.

A keeper is absolutely needed.
Being able to sign someone with 100 appearances is helpful.

Hopefully we can keep Wardy in goal!

I can imagine Ward will.play around 10-15 games if Griffiths is first choice. EFL cup and trophy, FA cup and the odd league game. If we are mid table with not a lot to play for, he will probably play the last 5-6 games.
That is still relatively quite a lot for someone of his age

He's only 22 now, so you would have expected him to improve during the last 3 years. He was West Broms cup keeper last season and started both FA cup games and started 10 games in the championship the season before that. So he's deemed good enough to play as cover when needed as that level.

Might actually be a good thing for Jed. Let’s face it we are a little cut off from the football mainstream and we have a keeper with a lot of potential.in the last couple of seasons we have brought in his peers in the England setup both from Brentford and he has learnt with them and then overtaken them. Now we’ve attempted to acquire someone who has preceded him and knows the rigours of the next level that JW aspires to. He would be training alongside someone who can help him with that. Not a bad thing in my book. Yes I would have preferred to entice someone of the quality of Lumley to the Mem either on a perm or a loan but I can see the advantages in the Griffiths move too.

Agreed that hopefully he has improved since then and has become more dominant. I like the signing (although I would have preferred a permanent other keeper) and hope they can compete for the No.1 jersey....if Jed is preferred then that is a big boost for him as Griffiths is highly regarded at WBA. Otherwise I hope MT has a plan for Jed to gain experience and become our permanent No.1 next season or sometime in the near future! Intriguing stats from Pirate...hopefully last season back at WBA he has improved!

BUDGET - I know it's not a popular topic, but perhaps if this happens, whilst not ideal, it ticks many boxes. Quality keeper, who has played 4 or 5 times more 1st team games than JW inc at Championship level, for very low cost, giving competition and the chance for JW development during training, leaving more funds available for those forward players we definitely need. Anyone any idea how much we normally pay towards the wages of loan players from big clubs ?

We could get an older keeper or a younger keeper. The Gaschat fact is always that it is a replacement for Jed. What if its competition for Jed, what if having someone close to his age will spur him on to do even greater things?
