Here it is again. I couldn’t stop myself.
It’s become a regular annual post since 2012 and as always I’m optimistic and hopeful that this season we might be in and around the playoffs come Christmas.
The enthusiasm of the new players is refreshing. I’m in Southern Spain on a short break so will take a look at team in one of the games in Portugal next week.
I like that the comments from some are downplaying what we might achieve. Lowering expectations is the right thing to do. Takes pressure off the players. In the dressing room they will have high ambitions for sure.
Where do you think we will end up at the end of this season?
You can vote now. I will leave the poll open until the end of August.
Ground-Breaking Goal - Champions/Automatics
Anything is possible. Can we dream? Is our team good enough to mix it with the big boys? Surely no one thinks we will achieve this? It would be pretty ground breaking if this happened.
Stretching Goal - Promotion through play offs
This has to be a realistic goal. It would be exciting end to the season. A trip to Wembley is what we enjoy.
Realistic Goal - Play offs but falling short in knock out stage
This could happen. For some this would be steady progress. Team in good place to challenge in 2025/26 season.
Security Goal - Inside top ten.
This is a minimum surely. Not achieving this would be disappointing.
In bottom half would show little progress. Relegation would be totally unexpected.
Where do you think we will end up at end of this season?
For me, I’m hopeful that we will always be around the play offs and then anything can happen as we all know. I think we might surprise a few. We were at 40-1 on Betfair last season to win the league outright at this time. This season we are 50-1.
Where will we finish? Be good to get a feel from this group about our expectations.
Is it time to aim high and expect the best?

And so it begins …. The madness that fuels the unrest on here which spills on to the terraces and beyond via social media and Bristol Lives dynamic reporter.
If MT gets us top half this season with a brand new squad he will have done well - Build the foundations and who knows where the following season might take us.
Patience is needed this season.

With all the changes and selling most of the goals and assists out of the side, anything above bottom 4 would be a brilliant result. I'm going to say around 18th. Unfortunately history tells us, when we've sold our best players and goals from the side, relegation usually follows. I will still be there, more in hope than expectation. Will be delighted to be proven wrong.

Top half outside of the top 10 - oh that isn't a category

I do think we're dark horses. Would expect us to be far better defensively but we're relying on a lot players who've never shown consistency to catch alight in attack. If a couple of those players do- then I reckon we'll have an exciting season. If not upper lower half with a good base to target next year

Love your optimism as always but how is playoffs “realistic”?! Will be well happy with top half this year with some exciting football With my positive, hopeful mindset I just could have a realistic target that didn’t include some sort of play off position. The club have done well to lower expectations. I can’t believe that players that have joined us will not have an internal target of play offs. We will see what happens. I for one hope for some exciting football. Enjoy the season.

I want a season where we play some good football at home. I want to see us really begin to gell and improve as a team, find an identity. I want to see us have a bit of consistency with the manager, coaches and playing staff. I want to see us find and develop some gems, the likes of Omechere, Hutchinson, Senior, Bilongo, Taylor really start to make a name for themselves.
As long as we can achieve these things and build a platform to achieve future success, I'm not so fussed where we finish. Obviously delighted if we're in a promotion push and bitterly disappointed if we're in a relegation scrap, however experience tells me we'll probably be somewhere in between the two.

Very Glass Half Full! Surprise the division & make the play-offs (comfortably) but lose out at that point. Win the Bristol Street motors cup! League cup not going far! FA Cup - over achieve and have a cracking run of games.

I want to see a bit of ambition so for me that would be a top ten finish, think that will be the best we can achieve starting out on our new plan going forward, I also believe it would be a credible achievement this time around.

a disappointing start to the season at the bottom half of the table. With a good run of games towards the end of the season and a finish just inside top ten

Looks like we’ve got some pace in the full back positions at long last.Last one with any pace was probably Michael Smith so 2014? Those are really important positions and could help us get a top half finish.Dont think we will be near promotion challengers but top half would be very decent return. edit : had to vote for inside top 10 as no top half finish option.

I worry massively about the fans getting on the players back early if we don’t get off to a good start.
Still too many people I know haven’t forgiven Taylor for how last season ended and if that plays out into the opening few games it could get very toxic very quickly.

After the second half of last season I think MT will unfortunately be targeted if we get off to a bad start this term. I don’t expect the players to be targeted (apart from maybe the keeper if idiots start singing for Jed) although a negative reaction targeted towards the manager will no doubt impact the players confidence and performance too. Let’s hope we get off to a decent start 🙏

I’m going to trust the process with mat Taylor, the signings seem very well planned and structured and imagine our playing style might follow suit. With players signing contracts and not being loans I’m really hopeful we build a genuine identity and strong character with players feeling connected and responsible. Be fit, be commited and be hard to beat and let’s go from there. The results will hopefully follow. Year on year progress is the goal and nothing beats playing relevant football all season long

Staying in the division main priority, As others have said , it’s never ended well when we have sold our goals and assists out of the team and then tried to replace them. This is a brand new team who need to gel and learn each others game along with a new back room team. We are clearly trying to build for the future with this squad of players and it’s going to take time ( which isn’t necessarily a bad thing ) what we mustn’t do is get on their backs , there will undoubtedly be periods when things aren’t going our way but they will need our support. I’d be extremely happy to stay in the league and build for next season with a view to then really push on.
