It makes plenty of sense. We are looking at loaning out Ward and that leaves us with Hall as our back up. This is where clubs are quite smart and can use the emergency keeper loan if there 1st choice is injured. WBA aren't a L1/L2 side desperate to save every penny, you've made up Palmer is being sold, now made up they are going to use an Emergency keeper if he his sold. Get of your high horse where have I said Palmer will be sold its well known that Prem clubs are looking at him and I have said they could use the emergency loan if needed. They have sent Griffiths out on loan to gain more experience instead if sitting on the bench or playing U23 just like what we might do with Ward.

And there is nothing that changed my mind I still think Cox was good enough until the fans turned on him. He didn't make many mistakes again how many goals were down to his gaffs? Our defence was awful last season and he took the brunt of it because the Belshaw situation was still raw with alot people. Cox was also bought in by JB to play a certain way and that was to play out from the back and when MT took over things started to change and his form dipped as we didn't really play like that. So you thought Cox was good enough to play last season but JW is now "nowhere near good enough to play this season", do you realise how ridiculous those two comments sound, when there's not a lot between them and most level headed fans would probably say JW was the better keeper last season. Again Cox was bought in to play a certain way under JB and yes he is better than Ward. You are hyping up a player because he has come through our academy and 2 managers now think he isn't ready to be first choice. That for me is enough of a sign and from what I saw as well tells me he isn't quite ready and a loan is required.

So if he is good enough to be a starter in league one why has Taylor said he will probably go out on loan this season. That says to me the MT dosent think he is ready to be a regular starter and I agree. He was voted young player as there wasn't alot of competition for the award and our fans do love a one of there own romance. Yes he is promising and we are right to sign him up to a long term deal as he will improve in time I have no doubt in that but he is nowhere near ready to be our number one now. Neither is Josh Griffiths who is only 1 year older than Ward and overal stats actually have Jed Ward as the better keeper. Josh has been sent out on loan for game time which is understandable, in my opinion it’s a strange move to drop Ward for Josh, I am all for Ward going out on loan to get experience but to drop him over Griffiths is a strange call. Still, it’s Taylor’s side now so let’s see how this all unfolds in the new season. We’ll see but this has making the same mistake as Barton made written all over it. Goalkeeper is the most important position on the pitch as Brian clough once said “ when you build a football team you start off by getting the best goalkeeper you possibly can and then you’re already half way there.” I can completely understand bringing in young loans as they bolster the squad and can make a big difference but goalkeepers generally don’t reach their optimal standard until they’re way past teens / early 20s so loaning out our young keeper who was just starting to make a foothold in the game for another very young keeper on loan seems a bizarre decision to say the least. Personally I’d like to see us bring in a quality proven keeper who can organise the defence and be a leader in the club and if that meant spending a significant amount of the budget then I wouldn’t mind that as it’s as important as finding a striker who’s going to get you 15/20 goals a season.

I just don’t see the point unless we’re going to sign the loan keeper on a perm. That never seems to work though. When was our last good loan keeper?

Bonham was decent as well.
Cox was awful for us and I honestly can not recall him making any saves of note whilst here, Ward may not be the finished article but at least he was capable of more than regulation stops.

Thought Bonham was excellent and very disappointed that he went to Gillingham the next season rather than joining us. Did wonder why that was. Remember him away at Luton - think it may have been his debut - when he played an absolute blinder and saved a number of what looked like certain goals in the first half in front of the away support.

Saw Joe Lumley's debut for us at Walsall. We were dreadful that day but he was most impressive.Only other decent display that day was James Clarke. They had a little bloke who destroyed us in midfield. We later signed him but he was way past his best by then. Otzhumer?

We should have played him at number nine then. Tut. 🏴☠️

I could never understand why we didn't sign Jamal Blackman last summer as I doubt Burton could offer him more money, whilst he wasn't an outstanding L1 goalie he was at least more competent than Cox.
