Your annual reminder that preseason results mean sweet fa , win lose or draw. The result doesn't matter, and to a certain extent team performances don't either, because we didn't play our strongest 11. However, individual performances do matter, and whether it's in training, pre season freindlies, or L1, we need to be defending set pieces a lot better. Pre season friendlies will help the manager decide what his strongest 11 is, what areas still need strengthening, and which players we should try to move on.

Your annual reminder that preseason results mean sweet fa , win lose or draw. Agreed. However, these games can quickly highlight who's unfit or unsuitable (at the moment) for League 1 football. Ellison is an obvious example of the latter.

Awful keeping for first goal.
I don't get why Jed isn't being considered number 1. Joey made same mistake last season bringing Cox in.

I agree, from what I saw. Jed looked the better of the 2 keepers. From one half of football, see everyone is turning on another young loan keeper and will wonder why it didn't work out Wind it back a bit. Not turning on him at all and I wish him well - it is in everybody's interests that he does well. I was simply expressing the opinion that Jed looked the better of the 2 goalkeepers on the evidence of this game.
What's the point of a fans forum if you can't offer opinion on players performance. We do it every game and it's hardly character assasination!

If that's Mr Taylor's thinking, then wouldn't it be better to use these games to give match practice to players who'll be in the first team squad?

If he did that then Shaw's wouldn't have got any game time and at present he's looking one of our better players in pre-season? Although if Ellison is starting games you do have to wonder if MT sees him as a player for now rather than the future.

It's pathetic the way some of our fans act and I fear this will happen again this season with Griffiths. I'm sure they are just waiting for him to make a mistake so they can call for Ward to be put in. Apart for the first goal when he came for a cross he had no chance of getting to, he was fine as far as I am concerned. Definately not at fault for their second and made a fine stop when the defence was awol yet again. As far as Ward was concerned, one regulation catch from a high ball and I could have kept goal for the rest of that game without conceding.Perhaps he marshalled his defence better?

More to do with the attacking threat from Bromley becoming non existent in the second period. Having said that our attacking threat dropped off the cliff edge in that second half. I was as surprised as the players when we managed to score.

In the Yeovil game Griffiths made one fine reflex save down low. He also came for a cross and got it wrong and missed it. He also went chasing a ball he shouldn't have out wide to his left. It was on the ground in the second half. This is the signing I'm most worried about. It definitely feels like he has a mistake in him per game. I'll be at the Plymouth pre season so it will be an interesting watch

Totally agree. Let’s support him, build his confidence, not destroy him or we could end up destroying to young keepers if Jed’s brought in to early It's pathetic the way some of our fans act and I fear this will happen again this season with Griffiths. I'm sure they are just waiting for him to make a mistake so they can call for Ward to be put in. How is it destroying another loan keeper by having the opinion that you rate our own young keeper more? Surely they should be battling for number one spot and so far in my opinion ward looks better.

Have to agree. We needed an experienced goalkeeper and commanding one that jed could learn from. Yet we seem to have gone down the Cox ii route

They are battling for the number one slot, our manager has already stated that. And before you ask me to look it up, check back on MT’s interviews about the transfer.

I think fans having opinion on one v the other is fine. Where is gets damaging is if the new guy gets the shirt and the crowd starts chanting Jed’s name - that to me is where the line is crossed and likely to damage a players performance

IMO ever since Barton fell out with Belshaw our goalkeeping position has never been successfully filled, we seem to be hoping one young keeper after another is the answer, this is not a criticism of Jed, just he may benefit with having a more older experienced keeper at the club.

Isn't that stating the obvious though, unfortunately our management seems oblivious to that fact, you have to feel for the new keeper as you just know what will happen if he makes a couple of howlers.

Was the match being played behind closed doors, as I couldn't see any fans whatsoever. This one fan seems to have made the game, but it sounds like he wished he hadn't! "It was bloody hot. 33c in the stand. Defence didn’t look organised. Missed some very good chances. Second half was better. Such a shame the club didn’t promote this trip at all. The club have to step up their communication with the fans. There was no bar or refreshments open in the ground either"
