Poor game but a good atmosphere. We need another striker and quick time. Promise did well up top on his own and if he had a good foil alongside him then we'll see more of his game. You can tell we're not confident down the left side of our team as everything is funnelling though the right channel even when there was a good opportunity to break on the left. There's no confidence where Bilbongo was for most of the game. Moore was excellent, as was Conteh and Thomas (who I think is wasted in the RWB role btw) Hutchinson looks a mile off a L1 footballer at the moment and Ward was poor. First touches, passing and tacking were awful from them. Rest not mentioned were average input throughout the game. I thought that Forbes changed the game in the last 10 minutes along with Senior. It seemed to bring the midfield back to life and we created some good openings with LMc and Bilbongo making the runs. Best part about today though was absolutely 💩housing Brady. 👍🏻 A decent start even if we didn't fully deserve it. Good summary 1981. Forbes did look good when he came on although I’m not sure he changed the game. Macca when he came on more so perhaps. I thought we looked like a team who hadn’t played much together. Weight of pass, moving in a different direction to receive a pass, going for the same ball and it looked as if Ward, Hutchinson were trying to get used to each other. Mola looked confident when on the ball and despite being only the first game I thought he was an intelligent player who looked good and quite versatile. And I agree with you completely about Luke T, when playing more forward we looked better. And being a fair man 1981, I’m sure you just forgot to mention that James Wilson had a very good game and worked well with Taylor Moore and Mola in making sure Northampton never had a look in. (Mind you they looked toothless up front and they will struggle for goals now Eaves is out for a month.) He had another good opening-season game, let’s hope it continues! 😉 UTG!

The longest non winning run on opening day is ended! Deserved win, but sorry Rich, no promotion this century after winning first game of the season, so put the bus in the garage till next season UTG Always hopeful. Lots to build on. I’ve got a feeling we are going to surprise many. Let’s see..

Will Martin's suspension be over after the Cardiff game? No! If fit, Chris Martin will be available for selection for the next league game - he served two games of his four match suspension last season.

Decent today, defence were superb it’s the best game I’ve seen from Wilson and Taylor more looks up for it.
Midfield were woeful nobody knew where they should have been. I’ll say that Linsey looks a capable replacement for the struggling Ward and Senior is a proper wide defender knew exactly what was required.
Thomas for me was the only player who knew what should happen in the final 3rd and I’ll let Bilongo have his moment but deep down I know he’s not any good.
Still 3 points

Well that was pretty enjoyable wasn’t it. Even the first 20 when it was all Northampton we defended brilliantly and didn’t really allow them a decent chance. Mola and Moore incredible and fair play to Wilson for stepping up.
Fitness and desire won it finally, after lots of almost.
Think when these click we could have some good times! UTG

I always say these first few games will bring unexpected performances / results , especially now weve had a overhaul of many players.
Today we could easily have drawn , but a masterclass decision to push Bilongo up gave us the points.
Things willsettle into place and MT should have at least one more in , hopefully a forward.
Not the best game today , but early days . The table tonight has us in reach of the play offs and above Brum Happy days (here's hoping )

I’ll let Bilongo have his moment but deep down I know he’s not any good. Still 3 points I'll disagree on that I think, not just because of the goal. He nutmeged a Northampton player in the first half, it was great to see.

Bilongo looked great I noticed he's comfortable with both feet when dribbling and he has some skills in him 👌

Its the first game with so many new players against an experienced Northampton side who played just the way you expect them too.A big boot side who put everything in the air which we have always found trouble to play against. Thought defence and goalkeeper looked good after a shaky start and it was good to see a pretty dominant aerial display st the back. Northampton really lacked any sort of real quality but their directness makes them a hard team to play. We improved as the game went on but our midfeild will have better days when the ball spends more time on the ground. Main thing is 3 points a clean sheet and the fact we got better as the game went on.

Anyone see Evans scored for Huddersfield Huddersfield fans are waxing lyrical about him. They Can't believe they got him for 500k. We really did get our pants pulled down.

Bilongo looked a decent enough player all game and then scored the winner with a good header.
Forbes took control bossing people around when he came on. He and Senior solidified that corner and suddenly we were attacking a lot more down the left.
The back 3 looked solid except Mola didn’t win anything in the air and Moore struggled going forward, great tackler though.
Griffith a shaky start but settled well.
Hutchinson was the struggler today, I hope it was a bad day at the office.
Credit to MT for his subs and timing today. Gave us fresh legs at the right time to let the squad fitness show.

Agreed , he was excellent Yes, he was very good. Let’s hope it can continue. He obviously turned a new page and started with a clean sheet! (Choose your own cliche.) UTG! I don`t like cliches. Cliches to me, are like a red rag to a bull.

Better 2nd half than the first, it wasn’t perfect but overall they seemed like they were trying. Are we going to rip up this division and get in the playoffs? I don’t think so, too light weight up front still, but I think we could get half way. New signings look promising but we need a striker, I’d even try the non league, bonus was a nice clean sheet, despite our goalkeeper trying to give them one, then his efforts to do a Puddy!!

Think we were defensively dominate.
First visit to the South stand for me and I was surprised to see that they'd recorded a shot on target post game.
Going forward we looked a little lost, but we worked better off scraps and I think 1 nil was about a fair. 0-0 wouldn't have been an injustice either.
Given the last 2 season the defensive solidarity was novel to see.

We looked remarkably stable yesterday. Seems we’ve built our house on the rocks instead of sand with a robust defence. When was the last time you could say that? Even when we had Tony Craig at the back we looked dicey even if he was solid as a rock. Wilson was like a different player and will be forgiven if he plays like that this season.
We were a little toothless going forward but I see a lot of promise in our Promise. JCH esque when given the ball holding it up really well and bringing others into the game. One or two attempts at goal and a few moments that left me speechless. He will be a fan favourite eventually I’m sure.
I’m feeling optimistic about the season ahead and think everyone who played yesterday showed potential to go on and do something special.

Couple more additions (ST, LWB) which it seems we are very publicly looking for, and I am excited by this side. Very optimistic they will all get better, too. Even throughout this one game they improved as a unit.
