I took on most of the Twitter trolls yesterday who mostly tried to justify their reasons for singing it. Facebook Rovers group has also been an absolute delight to read but there are only so many ignorant twats I can take on with my spare time in the day. Mostly the reasons that were given for singing the chant were "where does it mention his race in the chant", "the reason people go to football is to blow off steam", "how do you know promise has actually complained" and the obligatory "just the woke lot who are offended at everything". Well, I'm not black, so I'm not offended directly. However my sister has married an absolute gem of a Jamaican fellow and his family are my family so I do have some skin in the game because I'm sad to say I've witnessed him being racially abused, profiled and stereotyped in the 15+ years I've known him. So why has a song about a black guy with an alleged big penis caused so much offence? Well this is an interesting little piece of information which explains why and I thought I'd put it here. I'm not saying or trying to educate anyone, because when I posted the information on X I was accused of being patronising, when all I was trying to do was hopefully make a few understand and empathise. www.boldvoices.co.uk/blog/race-and-rape-culture-part-2If anyone wants to post any thoughts I'd be interested in hearing them. *Arrogant alert* Those defending the song will not read that. Will not change their minds. They will continue and attack anyone who dares to suggest that it's wrong. These are f**k.wits. They declare 'Be kind' when it suits them but have the attitude that if someone is upset about the things they say or the things they do, it's the person/people offended that are in the wrong. I say let them light fireworks out of their arses and let Nature's natural selection process take over. One of the best things I've read on GasChat, that would be poetic justice.

Some great points above. And anecdotes. Song about ๐ when we were all friends went in part.. " His c0ck's in the cup, he's gonna take us up! We got Matty Taylor...." You can see one other reason why he was named snake now!? All I'm going to say about this is is.... it's uneducated and crass, but it isn't coming from a bad or hurtful place. I'm not condoning the song (now am aware, as only just heard it) but many songs are made up on spur of moment that have been wittier, just a shame this one wasn't a bit more thought out. Very true nobody was offended when the song was about the snakes cock in a cup. We are lacking in songs, even whilst winning 2 nil at home the atmosphere was poor. Could a hymn sheet be handed out before the games, GoodNight Irene...Come on you blues...Come on Rovers...Rovers, Rovers, Rovers... Maybe the club could ask the bands to play a few to get us in the mood.

I'm not condoning the song (now am aware, as only just heard it) but many songs are made up on spur of moment that have been wittier, just a shame this one wasn't a bit more thought out. Josh Magennis, which is who the original song was aimed at also realised it was was from a well intentioned place, and yet still found it offensive and asked people to stop it. Which is exactly what this article says too. redirect.viglink.com/?key=71fe2139a887ad501313cd8cce3053c5&subId=5848383&u=https%3A//www.boldvoices.co.uk/blog/race-and-rape-culture-part-2So although you think it's just crass, it is actually racist, and as most of these similar comments have been made, they have all been from white people who just don't want to accept it's racist or be told what they can't sing.m

In all honesty, his song was pretty funny, factual not really that offensive. (And he did take us up)
