Must say I am very pleased with the start Rovers have made to the new season. I realise this is largely a very young squad with some experienced players to help them along. Obviously there will be indifferent results, but if the players give their all while learning, the club will make good progress! Supporters from clubs in higher divisions may well mock third tier football, but the reality is this league is very tough and for most, difficult to get out of. 7 teams leave it every season, so league one is probably the easiest to get out of 😋 That is a good point and as a club, we definitely need to do more to attract the younger generation who will hopefully stay with the club for many years to come. And as the stadium modernisation programme progresses, it should attract more families. But as we know, a winning team will always attract more fans.

Apparently racial and homophobic chanting at the games… I must admit I didn’t hear anything of the sort whilst I was there saturday or when I was there against Northampton. Did anybody else hear such things?

Apparently it was Saturday against Cambridge according to another fan… if true then f€ck knows what was sung as I didn’t hear anything of the sort from the thatchers end.

Would comparing with the equivalent stage (second home game or whatever) over the previous season or more, be a better comparison. 12/08/23 vs Barnsley - 7927 26/08/23 vs Wycombe - 7951 02/09/23 vs Lincoln - 7674 Compared to... 10/08/24 vs Northampton - 8529 31/08/24 vs Cambridge - 7893 And if you really want to compare things, we got 6526 vs Cambridge last season and 8518 vs Northampton, albeit at different times of year. I would say that is very comparable and I don't think Sky televising some games have massively effected us as of yet. So based on this, in theory the more that haven´t renewed their season tickets the more income (and lower losses ) for the club.

Did anybody else hear such things? I don't know about the homophobic chanting, but at Cardiff (a) there was a song being sung repeatedly about Promise (details here: gaschat.co.uk/thread/22682/song-promise) which is poor taste and heavily leaning into a particular racial stereotype. Apparently it was sung at Cambridge too but I must admit I didn't hear it from the North Terrace (although I had to leave just after halftime - so maybe it went round after I had left?) Rovers have posted links to a statement to condemn these inappropriate chants and songs: www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/club-statement-inappropriate-chants-and-songsMany of the replies on social media are a bit grim. So many entitled dafties twisting themselves in knots trying to defend the chant. You'd think it was "Goodnight Irene" the club were trying to discourage the way folk are carrying on! Madness.

I don’t buy that. Promise didn’t look like a player who had been subjected to racial abuse on Saturday that’s for sure. Was very smiley and celebrated his goal well.

What do you expect him to do turn round and v sign the thatchers? It’s a minority sure but there’s significantly enough of them to be heard especially in a concentrated away end which is why it was so prominent at Cardiff. If you agree that the chant is unsavoury and should be curtailed as suggested by the club statement then whether you heard it Saturday or not is irrelevant but contributing to shouting it down the next time it threatens to surface is an action we can all take.

Neither I nor the club said that he had been subjected to racial abuse. Read the statement and the thread in full and all the information is there.

I heard the Cardiff city chants to us during that game as well, I also saw the minority of Cardiff city fans walking around with a Spain flag before the game down Gloucester Road… that’s all banter but of course as it’s rovers let’s highlight them 🫤.

I heard the Cardiff city chants to us during that game as well Did you? I only heard them a couple of times in the whole game (their cheers when they scored 😂) I also saw the minority of Cardiff city fans walking around with a Spain flag before the game down Gloucester Road… that’s all banter but of course as it’s rovers let’s highlight them 🫤. How is that the same thing FFS 😂 I saw that flag and it made me chuckle. It reminded me that we got to the final of a tournament that they never qualified for. But that is hardly the same as our fans chanting about the supposed size of our striker’s member, is it? 🤔 I am not even remotely sure why you would bring it up tbh?
