If the owner's son is buying the players then where do the Director of Football and Head of Recruitment fit in? Had either of them heard of Hutchinson? Do they have any connection with the manager or any say in directing football or recruitment? How good are Hutchinson's ratings on the Kuwaiti version of Championship Manager? Were they playing an old version and thought they were signing Don Hutchinson who was a useful ACM? Does Taylor know who Hutchinson is now or is he still not quite sure? Does anybody know how deals are actually agreed at Rovers? From the last Q&A the VP attended the impression given was that TG & the VP were heavily involved in the JCH transfer talks and that JB & EJ had no involvement, we also know Wael was apparently texting DMc on transfer deadline day. As it always been the norm at Rovers that somebody in the VP's position deals with the transfer negotiations and not the DoF/DoR? I doubt TW did it when he was in the role? It seems the VP has simply replaced TG/MS/SH as head negotiator, I'm not sure he can do any worse than those three nor why Roadman gets so offended by him doing the role, after all somebody as to do it at the club. We all knew GF wasn't Barry Fry but he can't be any worse than Eddie Jennings. Isn’t it normal in clubs for the money men to do the actual transfer negotiation once the DOF/Manager have identified the player. More often the manager is aggrieved when the money men don’t buy a player due to cost….

I will also add, when they first came in, they were all together on the pitch at Charlton. Pictures in the taxi together on the way to games, Gorringe gone, major shareholder going in away end now, star this one, it’s a goodbye tour, I’m convinced of it. But Weal has gone into the away end before. So not new. You may be right but don’t see that as the evidence.

But not since the new lot came in, just a hunch, as I said star this message, he won’t be here in 3/6 months in my opinion.
He’s not involved now in the fans forum, club never uses him publicly for comments or PR, goodbye tour 👍

It's pretty clear that half the squad are simply not up to the required level. I think Taylor would have liked more experienced leaders in the squad but was encouraged to sign younger players and this is the result.
It sounds good in principle. Sign promising young players that can improve and be sold on for a profit, but it's a gamble and at the moment most of our signings look very poor. I'm not sure how many we could give away based on their performances so far.
We're going to rely heavily on our experienced pros (Hunt, Taylor-Moore, Wilson, Ward, Lindsay, Sinclair, and Martin) and a couple of signings that do look decent (Mola and Conteh) if we're going to survive in L1.
I'm not writing off the rest of the squad but as Taylor alluded to in his interview last night, most of them are miles off it at the moment.

Hard to know where to post Swindon match stuff but I’ll stick to the match day thread.
The match itself: What a crazy two hours! We still had enough chances to win it despite being rubbish. We were so open defensively it’s hard to argue with the tag… embarrassing. Yet Swindon were also very open and although we lost 0-4 we could have won 7-4. I counted at least that number of chances that we could and should have scored. Shaw alone had 5 golden chances and missed, mis-kicked every single one. Promise made 2/3 chances for the others and missed a few himself. And of course we could have lost 6-0 as Swindon missed two good chances as well. Their last goal was a good goal from the edge of the box, although tbh it squeezed in the only gap and had been half scuffed. We on the other hand had lots of chances and missed them all.
Well, for the past 5/6 years we’ve all said this is a crap competition, we’ve said we should never play our best players after some have got bad injuries in recent games in this competition, we’ve boycotted/ still boycott the competition because we’re p***** off with the EFL over U21 teams and we don’t truly take it seriously.
We’ve basically ignored it and never taken it seriously. So it’s a tad ironic that when the players have a collective nightmare in it the reaction is what it has been. We’ve never taken it seriously and last night neither did the players. We move on, just as I’m sure some players will be!
As for the threads about MT, the club, the owners etc. That’s been nearly as entertaining as the end of the transfer window last year with JCH. In short, if the turnaround in our league form continues he will stay. If it continues with winning a few and losing a few he’ll probably stay but if we revert to losing matches leading to us being in the bottom four he will go. Because it’s football and in football it’s results that matter.
UTG!

When Cogs lost he said stuff like I love these boys, they try every day in training and we will stick together. That presser was the opposite, it’s not his team at all and he can only trust the seasoned pros. What's the point in employing a manager who apparently has a reputation for developing young players if he now only trusts seasoned pros? If he didn't want the club to sign players like Hutchinson and Forde why was he doing presentations to them? You have to sense MT is only changing the agenda as he's out of his depth, we all knew the risks of following the BG approach again but MT seemed content to follow that path at the end of last season and during the summer. As far as goalies MT's already got 3 on the books, can a L1 club really afford to pay 4 goalies, wages less whatever FGR are contributing towards JW's wages. Hall's another youngster MT's publicly slated, no wonder they won't perform for him.

We had 13 shots, to Swindon’s 14, the lion share of possession (56%) and 25% more passes with over 30% more accurate passes. Surprisingly both sides only had 1 clear cut chance each and similar touches in the opposite box and similar final third entries. We also had the larger % of duels won. Doesn’t fit MTs narrative or what has largely been quite an over hysterical reaction to a game no one bothered to pay to go to 👍

We have approached games with a negative mindset and to be reactive rather than proactive. This gives impetus to the other side and allows them to dictate. Even the other poor sides in the division have been given respect and allowed to keep the ball and pick their passes and moments. We are far too passive out of possession and far too languid in it. We have started the last couple of games with some intent but after running out of puff, that slips back into the normal routine. Therefore, our young and inexperienced players are at the will of the opposition. They need some freedom to play on the front foot rather than let an experienced counterpart dictate. Anybody who has even played at parks level knows that you can't have a 15 year old lad reacting to a 30 year old bloke-the lad needs to play his game and make the bloke chase him about, not the other way around! Our experienced players are not doing what they need to in order to shape the game and allow us to be effective. Just watch us upon change of possession-the shape hardly changes. Just watch us upon clearing a corner or putting the ball out of play during and attacking phase-the shape barely changes. Once you notice these things, watch the other/better sides.. MT is miles off imo, not the players he is supposed to be instructing.

Swindon, just one of those nights, it happens folks , it's football, it's Rovers ! UP the Rovers !

Fed up with reading how “Charlton can’t have been crap because they beat Birmingham”!!
Teams can play crap without being crap every week!!
Against us Charlton put on one of the worst displays they could have possibly have mustered. They were dire. Look at the post match interview from Nathen Jones. Did he start making comments about “the game tells the truth”, “some of these payers shouldn’t even be training with us”, “this should tell the people watching where this squads at”?
No he took it on the chin himself, went away and in the space of 4 days he managed to take the same group of players to Birmingham and took 3 points.
THATS MANAGING.
Teams will have bad results and poor performances.
We were no worse Tuesday than we were v Wigan. Did the manager talk the same way? No, because it didn’t suit his agenda to do so.
Why did he feel the need to make such damning remarks clearly aimed at certain people regarding certain players when the very same players from Tuesday did just fine in the game v Tottenham…in fact he was glowing that night….
As culpable on Tuesday were players like Taylor and Moore but they’ve escaped criticism from fans and the media and most definitely won’t be the ones missing from any squad at Huddersfield.
Same as players like Bilongo, Sousa, Donker and Promise who were in no way any better and in many ways worse than the likes of Shaw, Hutchinson, McCormick and Garrett.
Players have bad nights. Teams have bad nights. Football throws up odd scorelines and odd performances from time to time and unless they become the norm you just have to take it on the chin and move on.
Many of those players that Taylor is clearly referring to have made good contributions to league 1 games this season. Hutchinson played a hefty portion of minutes in 4 points and two clean sheets, Maca has come off the bench and made impacts, Garrett contributed to 3 points v Cambridge (manager was glowing after!), Thomas was excellent in the Barnsley game, he’s been waxing lyrical about Shaw (too early imo) until Tuesday….
To write them off after a poor night in a meaningless game that just went wrong in 30 horrible minutes where every single player was as culpable as the other and the manager didn’t cover himself in glory either is just nonsense and demonstrates to me beyond all else that Matt Taylor is a) clueless b) out of his depth and panicking c)has a serious agenda against someone which is leading him to protect above all else….himself.
The telling quote for me was “the game tells the truth”.
Yes it does Matt. It’s told the truth 20 times in the last 35 games and it’s told us we’ve lost and weren’t good enough.
Maybe it’s you?

What we don't know is whether these players are capable of better, and just because they've done okay at other clubs doesn't always mean they work out here. Look at Westbrooke. Not many of our signings have 4+ good seasons in L1 where you could safely say they're of the required level. Sometimes players just have a good spell where they look better than they are, Telford for example. I'd like to think our squad is capable of better than what we've seen so far, but ultimately we won't know whether Taylor is getting the best out of what he's got until we try somebody else and see if things improve. I'm sort of on the fence at the moment. I wouldn't be disappointed to see him go but equally, after back to back wins, I'd be willing to give him another couple of games.

True enough, Charlton crap v us, good v Brum, Rovers crap v Swindon perhaps good v Huddersfield, no doubt we are crap some weeks and ok other weeks, perhaps we should have a 'crapometer'!
