Our record against the sold called 'bigger' teams is absolutely atrocious. Especially away from home and has been for many years. I would also love to see some statistics over the last ten years at games where we have taken large followings (say over 2,000). I would imagine our win percentage in these games is extremely low. I would be able to work out our record against the final top-six over that period - might do if I have the time later in the week. But the post was about Taylor's mindset against the big teams, not sure DC or JB had that same mindset - although they might have got similar results... No idea how he did it, he probably doesn't know himself now but GC managed to get results against the bigger clubs. Whilst JB's sides usually took the game to the opponents we usually came up just short, unfortunately under MT we never even seem to try. Perhaps the owners need to look at the bonuses we offer players and offer them more if they beat, or even avoid defeat, to a top 6 side, as they all seem to try for TC's 500th game v Sunderland and also the FA Cup game at Norwich.

He did. And the Ipswich match must have been one of the sliding door moments for us and for GC. Since then GC has been sacked by Mansfield and by Newport who both decided on a more attacking manager. Hard to predict but football has changed and perhaps with football on 24/7 every team wants to play like Man City and expects their managers to do that! 🤔 UTG!

There is more demand for a decent quality of football and higher entertainment value but that is probably a fair expectation with the pitches now compared to 15+ years ago. Playing like Man City is one end of the spectrum, I guess a team like Shrewsbury under Cotterill or back in the day Cambridge under John Beck is at the other end. I would imagine most fans would like to be somewhere in between and near the middle? What we have witnessed over the past year under MT is very low in both entertainment, quality and results 🙁

I'd imagine Mansfield fans would have been happy if GC had repeated his success at Rovers and got them into the promotion slots, unfortunately for him they just struggled in mid- table.
I'm not really sure they played better football under Clough but he managed to get results.

A very strong determined battling display by the team tonight and exactly the kind of performance I was hoping for. Shame so many on here can’t wait for our manager to be sacked and they don’t show the same kind of resilience and determination for the team they “ support “ as the players did.
So which game is Taylor going to be sacked after now then ? How about Reading ? Northampton ? what about Crawley ?
6 points off the drop and three off the play offs.
A decent start to the season by Taylor and his young side that is starting to gel now with 9 points from a possible 12.
Up the Gas.

More like we got lucky after a poor display and a bizarre change of formation when we were on top. If the officials had decided the late Shrews goal stood MT could well be out of a job tonight. I fear another hammering on Saturday and then we'll be back to needing another win at home. I don't get MT's obsession with 5 at the back when we always look stronger playing 4-4-2

If 9/12 points is still paper over the cracks, can we keep ordering the same paper?

Delighted with the win, but from what I saw we were again very fortunate to win, with Marquis and Lloyd missing glaring opportunities to score and obviously the disallowed goal which should have stood. The dwindling attendance tonight tells it's own story, with the huge gaps on the terrace and empty blue seats in the new stand surely concerning for the powers that be. But as I predicted earlier in the thread after the abysmal performance against Huddersfield, we would scrape a win against Shrewsbury and so it proved. Im just thankful there are 5 or 6 teams worse than us.

We’re also 3 points off the play offs and have had a waaaaay better start than we’re used to in league 1. And once again your post is typical of the crystal ball , we’ll lose this scrap this game Taylor will get sacked after this game or that game mentality that very prevalent on here. How about just getting behind the manager and team, they’re doing better than any manager has done in league one since Coughlan was here and he left and look what happened to us then.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, we look better at keeping the ball further up the pitch when we have 4 at the back.

The fans are more demanding now and the better pitches is a very good point. As to your last sentence I know your view and whilst I don’t agree with it completely, after being there tonight at least we got the result. But the entertainment was a bit lacking as was the quality. It looked a lovely surface and we should play on it more instead of launching it for a majority of the time. I exclude Kamil Conteh from that observation. I thought he was excellent, when he got the ball he spread it wide to one of ours. He was my MOM and he gets better every time I watch him. Understand but really important. UTG!

If you only looked at the stats (ignore the boring football/manager, decreasing crowds for a second!) then its five wins and six defeats, three points off the play offs and won three of the last four league games. Not actually that bad is it!
Some of those defeats have come at places where 99% of the time we loose anyway. Barnsley, Peterborough, Huddersfield
I'll be amazed if we have had many, if any better starts to the season over the last twenty years?
