Quote from MT's press conference yesterday.. "I've said before, 12 months time will be an outstanding group of players and will be fantastic for this football club for many years to come. But before that we might have to go through what we're going through at the moment which is a little bit of inconsistency, a little bit of pain every now and then but sometimes a performance hurts and hurts for the right reasons." Would be good if we could get behind the team a bit more, whether we think he is the right person to get us there in 12 months or not. Saw signs of what we want to be as an attacking team on Tuesday and think we should be going 4-2-3-1 every game now. Lots of options behind Omochere to create and score more. Forde will make a big difference. Our biggest issue (subs and formations aside) is a lack of confidence in defence. The keeper needs to communicate better and come claim the ball more decisively. We have good defenders, something isnt working and for me it is their relationship with Griffiths. Thats the stuff we need to hear from him and tbf this is the first I've seen this quote as almost everything on social media tends to be very negative. Most of us will get behind that sort of talk and give him a better chance. He should try doing it a lot more. Any PR guys out there to give him a lesson or ten? I can't get why our defence has gone to pot either, they looked halfway if they had a plan earlier in the season. Even Shrewsbury walked through us on Tuesday. A lot of balls are coming right through our midfield so maybe thats where the fault is. Griffiths is the best we can expect from a young and learning lad. Needs to command his box a lot more. One collision on Tuesday with Moore (I think?) nearly ended up in them scoring. Tight ass new owners won't extend the budget for another keeper though. Most of our problems lie with them, not Taylor. We’re crying out for a midfield general. A leader in the middle of the pitch. Conteh has the makings of one and has impressed me but he’s still a kid and has gone up a level since joining us. We’re a young squad that lacks leaders in midfield but I think considering we’re doing alright so far. But yeah January we need to bring in a tough midfield general who can grab a match by the bollocks, see out a lead or instill a bit of passion and fight when we’re behind or up against it. Other than that i think we’ve got a fairly balanced squad. And 4 at the back from now on please boss. We’re too defensive abs with no width with 3 / 5.

I'm probably old school, but I do feel four at the back is the sound basis for a team, especially one at our level. Let midfield and the strikers mix it up, but keep it settled at the back. I agree about the age of the squad, given time it'll be great in a couple of seasons. Getting there and keeping them together is the challenge.

I agree with all that, I think Griffiths is a very good shot stopper but does have problems knowing when to claim. Thing is he’s young, Ward is the same. In an ideal world we’d have a great shot stopper who commands his area well and is a real captain of the defence. They are hard to find though. There's a clear investment in Ward but, the decision was made that he wasn't quite ready for L1. I don't think anyone can complain about the handling of that situation, the loan market is never going to allow us to have a complete keeper at this level but signing one permanently would contradict the approach to Ward. Currently playing week in week out in a title contending NL side. Solid experience to return with!
