I remember us playing Kettering in the cup in the early 70s. They had a bloke dressed as a monk who went round the greyhound track ringing a hand bell before the game. They got a 1-1 draw before we beat them 2-1 at their place in the replay I was there. Iirc it was season 69/69 so it was 3rd round Jan ‘69. The monk went round ringing his bell. In the replay we were 0-1 down and Laurie Taylor then saved a pen. There ground then was Rockingham Road I think. Squeaky bum time and then we went to the 5th round v Everton at Goodison..👍 UTG!

Love this! Out of interest, do you find WSM more supporter by gas or city? For some reason I’ve always seen them as a 2nd rovers club, but I guess there’s no reason to believe that. I assume just as much city fans go as rovers? I think it's a fairly even split mate

Don’t expect any Tv for this one unfortunately. So far the bbc only reports the following: MK Dons will host rivals AFC Wimbledon as one of 40 ties in the FA Cup first round. Elsewhere, League One Northampton Town will play sixth-tier neighbours Kettering Town. The lowest ranked side left in the competition, Hednesford Town, could face Gainsborough Trinity or Boston United at home - but they must win Tuesday's fourth-round qualifying replay against Gateshead first. Seventh-tier side Harborough Town, making an appearance in round one for the first time, will be looking to extend their run after being drawn at sixth-tier Tonbridge Angels. MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon, who are both in League Two, have been rivals since Wimbledon FC relocated to Milton Keynes in 2003 and subsequently changed their name to MK Dons in the summer of 2004. South London side AFC Wimbledon were formed as a phoenix club and have risen through the divisions in the 22 years since they were founded. Meanwhile, League One leaders Birmingham City have an away tie against National League side Sutton United and second-placed Wrexham will face League Two's Harrogate Town. The ties will take place over the weekend of 2 and 3 November. Yes, I noticed that when reading the BBC this morning. We have had very few mentions with the BBC outside of transfers and results etc., perhaps a City fan writing the piece or our past associations have left us on the naughty step. Whichever, we get few mentions. Shame for Weston if the BBC don’t make more of it. Big moment for them. UTG!

It's a great draw.
1st Round FA Cup doesn't usually hold much interest, but this should see a decent attendance and atmosphere.
Of course it's a potential banana skin with WSM going well in NLS, but a home tie against a local side 3 divisions below us is about as good as it could get.
We could get knocked out of course, I'm certainly not ruling that out, but it's an exciting tie, and that rarely happens in round 1.

My two grandsons live in Weston but are both gasheads. probably because they have been advised by myself and their parents that being that way is part of life. God forbid they should ever follow the Teds.

It was 1-1 at Kettering and a chap called Harry Walden missed a penalty for them latish in the game and Rovers ran down the other end and scored to make it 2-1. Who knew that i would end up being a Gashead season ticket holder in later life. I still have the programme of that match as my momento of the first ever time i saw Bristol Rovers play.

We have the trophy game the mid week before the FA Cup game. So he can play the reserve team then! We have no game until the following weekend, after the FA Cup game. So we should see a full strength side.

U21's at Trashcan which isn't local news gets on points west, Cup draw involving local teams doesn't. I'd be pi55ed right off if I was a Weston supporter
