I remember us playing Kettering in the cup in the early 70s. They had a bloke dressed as a monk who went round the greyhound track ringing a hand bell before the game. They got a 1-1 draw before we beat them 2-1 at their place in the replay I was there. Iirc it was season 69/69 so it was 3rd round Jan ‘69. The monk went round ringing his bell. In the replay we were 0-1 down and Laurie Taylor then saved a pen. There ground then was Rockingham Road I think. Squeaky bum time and then we went to the 5th round v Everton at Goodison..👍 UTG! The 4th round tie was away to Bolton which we won 1-2. It was dangerous standing at the open end as track ballast was being thrown from the adjacent railway and the attendance at Goodison was around 55,000 where we lost 2-1.

Oddly the crowd for the Kettering home game was our biggest of the season by some distance (12,230). Wayne Jones scored both goals at Bolton after coming on as sub. We lost 1-0 at Everton (55,284) to a 30th minute Joe Royle goal

Only half the stadium open for this then. Disappointing was hoping we could get a decent crowd in.

Only half the stadium open for this then. Disappointing was hoping we could get a decent crowd in. Very disappointed with this. Was looking forward to the match and a good atmosphere. However will now need to move from the East Stand and watch from the other side with a view of an empty stand and terrace. The club is helping to ruin the FA Cup with this action. Was the prospect, with good marketing, of a decent crowd and also attract new supporters with parents and kids coming for the first time - but no, what do we do, we reduce the seating capacity and say that you can only come if you have a purchase history of watching the club before. Do we not want new fans? The current ownership is squeezing the life and soul out of the club and after watching the club for over sixty years it is squeezing the enthusiasm out of me.

Completely agree. Fantastic opportunity missed to market the game for families and fill the stadium with free tickets for local schools and community groups.

Doesn't that mean additional costs for Stewarding, Police etc?

Doesn't that mean additional costs for Stewarding, Police etc? Only if the game is classed as high risk will determine rising policing costs. If it isn't the policing cost doesn't change regardless of crowd size. Stewarding yes but the spending from the extra attending spectators would surely cover the cost of stewarding?

It probably is classed as high risk. As that's why you need a history of purchasing a ticket, to be able to get one. They might be expecting City fans to go with the Western fans and try and get in the home end, if they sell out. It does seem a bit over the top, for a game against Western and stops any potential new fans from attending.

Kids can stand for £1 isn't that virtually free? Even £6 for a seat is hardly going to break the bank for most families. It's pointless opening the whole ground for a likely attendance of 5,000/6,000 home fans. As far as the purchasing history I assume that's to discourage City fans from attending and is probably on SAG/Police orders.

I said to give out tickets to local schools and community groups. As I've said before our crowds are shrinking not growing so why not fill the ground and encourage future fanbase especially amongst the young. You just read the bit you want to read and comment on like you always do.

I've only just looked online to check ticketing and I too am very disappointed. This is a local derby with a good chance of seeing Rovers win (!). The time for deciding to only use part of the stadium is when ticket sales are shown to be poor. Not at the outset. But what do I know.

Perhaps the management are pre-empting developments over the next few weeks.

Stewarding yes but the spending from the extra attending spectators would surely cover the cost of stewarding? Not if you're giving them free tickets. I didn't mention ticket revenue? Spectators through the turnstiles equals increased revenue elsewhere in and around the stadium for the club. It also attracts fans who wouldn't otherwise attend and even if only a few decide to come back for league matches thereafter that's future money for the club. Money is after all what seems to be driving these new owners. They only seem to look for the short term fixes. Wouldn't it be nice if for just one game this season we could try and fill our stadium with a packed family friendly atmosphere against a local club. Would also benefit wsm. We won't be filling it under Taylor in the league this season that's for certain.

How many you reckon will turn up, my guess, about 2k. Hardly worth opening all parts of the Ground.

Imagine the uproar if fans who'd bought tickets for one part of the ground were then told they would have to move to another part of the ground as ticket sales were so low? If we can only attract 7,000 fans including season ticket holders for league games then there's no way we're going to attract 5,000+ home fans for an FA Cup R1 game.

How much you reckon those with free tickets will spend in and around the Ground? Not much in the scheme of things is my guess and certainly won't cover the extra Stewarding costs. Not sure money is driving our Owners, seen the latest accounts? What was it, £3mil debt every year? And that South Stand wasn't cheap neither will the Ground development.
