I've just realised in the last couple of days how much this forum has grown. Since the demise of the OF, I've followed the other one knowing this one started but thinking the other had cornered the market.
So seeing as there's a lot of duplication going on here in terms of a lot of the same old characters on both forums (or fora?) and also the same subjects, I'm struggling to see the point. Both seem to be as strong as the other. We don't have the official v alternative situation with all the politics and needing a separate vehicle for the voice of the outlaws.
So what is the point in having both? Not being pedantic, genuinely interested to hear views. What are people finding one forum provides that the other doesn't.
To avoid duplication, I'm not putting this on gasheads.org

(no offence meant re your post stapleton) In the ideal world the two would come together, but just like anything else in life politics and differing opinions probably come into play!

I look at both forums, and, for me, they each have their own merits - variety is the spice of life!

I just found this a more cheerful bunch of characters . Dont get me wrong I know that we have had a rough time lately but I really dont need it rammed down my throat every 5 minutes. There just seemed less doom and gloom merchants on this forum.

I can't believe there are so many different newspapers. Both the front page news and back page sports news are almost identical.
Perhaps we should merge all the different newspapers and just have one! And what's the point of BBC news, ITV news, Channel 4 news, Sky news........
The answer is Choice.

The secret to the answer is the location of the question. That is, to the best of my knowledge, only being asked on this forum. But that's fine, what's the problem. Personally I choose to read both and respond on both, albeit Gaschat is lightweight in analysis and reaction.

News papers are politicaly biased, you tend to read the one's that put the slant on things you agree with. The forum's have the same topics, as papers have headlines, but how the story is put together and how threads develope tends to vary with which side of the fence you sit. This forum seems more upbeat and not so board bashing, which is how i feel about things at the moment,so i read this one more at present.

Keep the faith and you will find the analysis and reaction to onfield matters is not lightweight as most posters on gaschat actually attend the games.

I'm not a "rose tinter" or a "happy clapper" by any stretch of the imagination. I know there is a million and one things wrong with this football club. But I don't need to see every single thread, even about things which don't really apply, be brought back about how bad the club is, how bad the board is. Okay, that might be a bit of an over-exaggeration. I'm 24 now, maybe I haven't gone through the years of pain that some Rovers fans have (or even seen us when we were better) but I don't want to be any more miserable supporting Rovers than the required dosage which comes as birthright.
I can be a pretty negative bugger, but sometimes I read that forum and just think "Why do I bother at all" than I do when I read this one.

All a matter of choice of course.
If you want a forum which is mostly frequented by people who attend games, comment on our current team and enjoy a little humour then this is the one.
Alternatively if you enjoy an in-depth "analysis" of how the club should be run………….

Personally I like all of our fans to be in one place as it is easier and makes threads more interesting with more different opinions.

Oh right, So the attendances will be about 300 this season, right? Holier than thou attitude does nobody any good. Deal with the facts, its the only way.

They were rather different to begin with and then the IF changed to the same format as this one.
It was old, clunky, no mobile version etc. Then a few weeks after we started they changed to the same setup and now they are practically identical although the IF is much bigger and has the independent supporters club too. Its better in almost every way except one.
We, have Hugo the elder.

Ok cheers all, I wasn't being mischievous, but I was seeing the same topics, the same writers, duplication left right and centre, so on the face of it, the same newspaper ( to steal an analogy above) with a different name.
Seems the difference is a bit more subtle.
