Look, get me wrong. I appreciate the positive spin and am happy that our sales are up.(They should be though in all fairness and the back slapping is a tad strange considering we were playing Chester 18 months ago and Bolton next season) Truth is though our ground is sh1t. It holds us back massively and the positive remarks appearing here are similar to the ROSE/TRASH remarks which rubbished our requirements for a new/larger stadium. If we are still at the ramshackle Mem in 10 years, I swear some on here will STILL be saying it's ok! It's not, it's sh1t and is probably one of the sh1test grounds in the English professional leagues. sh** for what ? The atmosphere is better than the majority of grounds I've been to and the pitch is good to. Yes the toilets are vile and some bits are uncovered. It looks crap but I don't go to football to look at the stadium I go to watch the football. You don't, nor me and many others but times are changing and we must evolve. Modern families demand better and if we want to tap into new supporters and the income that comes with them we have to get better facilities. UTG

Sales are also seemingly up on when we were last a Div 1 side, although I agree if we had a new ground with decent facilities sales would now be even higher. Although the actual facilities don't seem to be holding us back as much as you'd expect, it's the actual ground capacity that's probably limiting crowds more than anything. As regards the toilets you do wonder how those in the Blackthorn End pass basic H&S with no hot water or hand dryers etc, surely it wouldn't cost a fortune to revamp those?

Our atmosphere is not as good as we like to make out, but that's a separate topic.. I won't waste anymore time on this as its obvious to anybody whose honest enough to admit the truth. I agree that we need a newer bigger stadium to move the club forward but what I'm saying is our ground isn't sh** for atmosphere and the pitch isn't sh**. I go to football to watch football and enjoy the atmosphere.

I've taken my 5yr old lad a few times to the 'family' enclosure. A place where he can't see over the wall at the front or nearly all of the terracing because there are adults too tall in the way . So I have to precariously balance him on one of the crash barriers and stand behind holding him. I'd like to take my Mrs and her 10yr old daughter to the odd game for a family day out. I wouldn't even consider it at the Mem as it currently stands. UWE with decent seats , good parking and the chance to buy decent food before hand as a family would swing it for me. They might even enjoy their day out as well !!

Yes, you and I couldn't give a sh** about the standard of ground really. We love The Gas and would probably go to watch if they were playing at Eastville Park. But, to draw in those neutral fans, that are very different to us, requires good facilities. I don't really understand why myself, as it's hard to imagine not being as obsessed as I am. But clearly, as proven with other clubs and their new grounds, people do really get drawn in by a decent stadium. Add to that the fact a new stadium brings in new revenue streams, allowing us to spend more on players, improving the team, and therefore (in theory) being better to watch.... those fans then stay and then we're looking decent!

Summed up my thought nicely. I am hoping for an interesting summer both in player recruitment but also in off the pitch developments such as stadium (both Mem upgrades and UWE), training facilities and commercial improvements. Could be quite a pivotal few months in our future.

Yeah I get that and I agree with it. But our grounds not sh**. In 5 or 10 years time when we're playing at the UWE there will be plenty in here reminiscing about how it's not the same as the terraces in the Blackthorn and I'll be one of them. When I go away with the gas the atmosphere in other grounds is never as good as it is at our place. Pompey is one that stands out where the atmosphere is better.

Not sure which ground you've been to lately, but the hand dryers at the Clubhouse toilets almost blow your hands off now. Unless of course you want a wind tunnel installed so you can dry your hair at the same time.

Although surely for most football fans what's happening on the pitch is the main reason for attending a football match?

Nah if we haven't got supreme quilted toilet paper next season and the highest tech hand driers then I'm not going anymore. And I want my ball back.

The old lot knew it too but despite offers of help and 15+ years they did sod all about it.

The North Terrace sounds loud in the North Terrace. You can barely hear the singing down the other end. The atmosphere at the Mem is pretty poor as all the noise just escapes through all the gaps between the stands and due to the lack of roofs.
The Mem is and always has been sh**.
Sorry.

I don't think people are particularly back-slapping due to the fact are sales are up on the last two seasons, but it seems they're also going to be the highest ST sales we've had in quite a number of years. Can't remember exactly how many we sold in our first season in L1 after 07 promotion, but fairly sure it wasn't 4,000+.

i agree with gashead79 , the mem is a sh** hole. i started watching rovers at twerton park and the mem has never really felt like our home. i won't miss it when we leave.

It feels to me like living in a sh*tty house you've never liked, but which you bought cheap because it was all you could afford at the time. You've been planning all these extensions and re-furbs, but you've never had the cash because you've squandered it on other things, and to be honest, you never really planned to stay there long anyway.

TBH how many Gasheads can recall watching Rovers at a ground that felt like home or one that wasn't a dump, once the old Eastville South Stand burnt down and was not replaced we've never had a decent ground?

I was too young to remember anything other than the mem. Its where I fell in love with Rovers and I can't imagine being anywhere else. It may look horrid, have terrible facilities and a bumpy rugby pitch (for much of its history) but I will miss it. I'm sure those who mentioned Twerton and Eastville as being better have a similar connection.
I'm glad tickets are selling well this year and I like to think that number will continue to grow until the new stadium is built. For me there is something special about our place but I couldn't explain what. In a confusingly sad way the 'ragbag' mem experience could soon be but a footnote in this club's successful future. Whatever happens I will be proud to say "I was there when..."
