So, July then? 🤔 Favourite amongst pundits seems to still be the Autumn with the week after the US elections most likely. I guess so much depends on how Sunak reacts to the probable fallout from Tuesday's local elections. How many seats do you think they’ll lose ? 400 seems to be the guess but that in its self would surely be curtains for him 🤔 1000 seats for each Labour and the Conservatives, isn't it? Depends on turnout, 400 could be a good shout. There are several metro mayor elections in the North, that could be interesting in terms of rebuilding the Red Wall.

So say is the football mantra. However is it really the case?
Off the top of my head and during my time watching Rovers I've see the likes of Bobby Gould, Ian Holloway, Chris Lines, Gary Penrice, Paul Randall return and do a decent job.
Conversely, Gerry Francis and John Ward blotted their copybook, although JW did do alright initially.
Which players or managers returned and did well and not so well?
Is the perceived wisdom really true?

Wouldn't be against DC coming back and would probably give the club a lift in many ways, however there is no vacancy at the moment and we can't keep chopping and changing managers.

I get the feeling MT is a placeholder for the next season or two while the owners get to grips with structural changes, and with a remit to get us having a 'buy cheap, sell high' production line.
The owners would probably be happy for us to be 8th-14th and selling a good player or two while getting costs under control.
Once that's resolved they may be willing to change things but unless things are going on behind the scenes, I think he'll be here come August.

Chesterfield is in Derbyshire and no where near Liverpool. Northern pigeon fancying clog wearing unwashed communists, the lot of them. Whippets and ferrets, and a dislike of "That t'London". No stereotyping here. 😁

Just when Sunak thought he was getting through a difficult time. "Dr Poulter said he would sit as a Labour MP until the general election and then stand down." www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68913287I can sort of understand Tories defecting to Reform, and I expect those on the other forum can easily imagine Labour MPs defecting to the Workers Revolutionary Party, but I can never quite see how the bridge between Tory and Labour is crossed so easily. I suppose I'm old school and in reality the differences are not so great these days, despite the odd maverick like Corbyn or Truss still popping up. It went on a lot in the past too, Churchill defected twice, and on my lifetime several in the 80s and 90s. There probably isn't a great deal between the left leaning One Nation Tories and the 'Blair' wing of Labour. If both parties could jettison the more loony fringe then we'd probably have a more pragmatic House of Commons.

A picture never lies, doesn't it? This is similar to when carrier borne planes destroyed battleships at the start of the Second World War ending their strategic dominance,we now have a £200 drone blowing up multi million pounds tanks ending the dominance of the land battleships. The picture is a photoshop job, the M1 is from Iraq and superimposed onto a Ukrainian landscape. I wouldn't disagree greatly with the overall premise though, where I do differ is that I would say it's morphing rather than becoming obsolete. The Ukrainians are using them more as long range 'snipers' against fortifications and we are highly unlikely to see another Battle of Kursk or 73 Eastings. There will be a place for heavy tanks, but not the mass tank battles of the past. One anomaly currently being drawn from Ukraine the I think is skewing lessons incorrectly imo is that there is a distinct lack of air cover. What drones are also being used for is for observation with artillery being then directed onto troop positions. With adequate air power, those artillery positions become too vulnerable and are pushed out of range, allowing troops to maneuver more freely (though still vulnerable to a degree). Nato, especially with a US air wing, would fight differently as they would have greater assets. Something I tried pointing out to Gulf a few pages back when he suggested Russian forces were so much better than those in Iraq. Air power, artillery and drone and counter drone technology is the future but heavy armour will still have its place.

Been thinking about my Forum retained list . To be honest I’d ditch you all and start afresh next season. You’ve been well below expectations. Whereas you've performed as expected, mind you that was a very low bar. 😘

Or he just wants to be non committed and gave a generic answer. "Competitive" could mean anything. Competitive like Eddie the Eagle in the 1988 Olympics ! More Eddie the Eagle in Dancing on Ice.

"Rishi Sunak has hailed the arrival of pay day with a reminder his government's additional National Insurance tax cut kicks in this month for the first time. At last month's budget, the chancellor announced NI will be cut by a further 2p - so some workers will pay 8% of their earnings instead of the 12% if was before autumn. The prime minister has repeated his claim this will be worth £900 for someone on the average UK salary. While this additional cut - on top of the previous 2p cut in January - does equate to £900 for those on average full-time earnings of £35,000, there are two key issues with Mr Sunak's claim: Once the effect of all income tax changes since 2021 are taken into account, the Institute for Fiscal Studies reports an average earner will benefit from a tax cut of £340 - far less than £900; Moreover, anyone earning less than £26,000 or between £55,000-£131,000 will ultimately be worse off. In short, this is because NI cuts are more than offset by other tax rises." news.sky.com/story/money-latest-consumer-personal-finance-mortgages-sky-news-blog-13040934?postid=7588301#liveblog-body

I think our budget was good enough by the way, but people talk in the game and it's my understanding Derby, Portsmouth, Bolton, Reading, Oxford, Wigan, Charlton, Blackpool, Barnsley and Peterborough all had bigger budgets than us this season. By the way, has the owner seen every other clubs budget for next season then, to already determine ours will be top 8??? Not be be pedantic, but it also depends on how you read it - "top 8 budget" doesn't necessarily mean that, if you ranked the budget of each side in the league, we'd be in the top 8. Instead it could well mean a budget capable of getting the club into the top 8. Given points deductions and the mess at clubs like Reading, Wigan and Charlton (at the start of the season), the latter could still make sense too. I.e. just because we'd have a smaller budget than them, you'd expect us to finish higher with less money potentially, as we're not handicapped by points deductions etc. Or he just wants to be non committed and gave a generic answer. "Competitive" could mean anything.

Do you mean Arnold Rimmer? Maybe he'll turn out to be more Ace Rimmer than Arnold. Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast. 😎

JB received a 3 game stadium ban for that incident, MT received a 3 game ban for abusing officials as well this season. It was actually for calling Lister a "Smeghead". Do you mean Arnold Rimmer?

What's the thoughts on Nationalising the railways. Me don't have any faith in it being any better,I remember how bad it was before and where is the money going to come from to invest? Not against it in principle and it could work. Didn't Boris plan to do this?

Scottish Green Party to vote against SNP in a vote of no confidence.
Are we looking at a possible Scottish GE or new First Minister?

I'm inclined to agree, especially with the scandals around the SNP and a Labour government in Westminster with a decent majority is likely to happen soon. No coalition deals with the SNP and a lot of the grievance is going to be toned down for a few years. It'll keep popping back so I'll never say never, just not likely this side of 2030. I was up visiting my Friends in Bute a few weeks ago despite voting for independence they have no time for the SNP,, interesting said " don't talk to me about that Calvinist government", religion runs deep eh.!! And what are the lyrics in Flower of Scotland about? 🤔
