Sunak to give a keynote speech shortly about security and Grant Shapps is expected to announce a shipbuilding strategy, possibly tomorrow.
I'd be pleasantly surprised if anything concrete comes out of this, Sunak trying to steal a march on Labour while Shapps is unlikely to say anything different to the strategy announced by Boris in 2021.
We'll see.

We're thinking of going to the Motorhome show near Newbury next weekend, just browsing as it's not realistic, but we do enjoy the thoughts of getting one. Oh god not another one who wants a campervan, oops sorry Yatton I mean Motorhome, to clog up the roads and slow everyone down. To be honest, it's the wife's dream. I prefer to drive in our car and stay in hotels.

Procrastination in Washington has real consequences. "Opening a new front here in the north is stretching Ukraine’s limited resources. The US delay in approving more military support has starved Ukrainian troops of ammunition. On average, Ukraine has only been able to fire one artillery round to Russia’s 10. That is now slowly being addressed, with the US support now coming. But the Kharkiv offensive also highlights problems Ukraine itself has been too slow to address – mobilising enough troops and building adequate defence lines. Re-enforcements being sent to Kharkiv have had to be pulled from other parts of the front and limited reserves. Ukrainian officials still insist Kharkiv city is not under threat of a ground invasion. But the further the Russian’s advance, the more likely that it will come within range of Russian artillery." www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c72p0xx410xo

It does, not sure "bitter" is appropriate, nor is a laughing matter, though. 😶 Incidentally, it's "you're". 😘 Oh Christ not another member of the grammar police. My humble apologies that I don't check what has been typed before posting. Not just a member, I'm a Chief Inspector. 😃

Some of us have every reason to. As did many under the Blair/Brown years. Works both ways Stu. It does, not sure "bitter" is appropriate, nor is a laughing matter, though. 😶 Incidentally, it's "you're". 😘

Mid table not buying potential promotion winning players - yup!! Thats why we did not renew out season tickets and will pay on the day. Oh 2 be a Gas Head 🙄 You think, as a Club, Ground, infrastructure, we're ready for the Championship? No chance, hence the 3 years references. We need to balance the playing side with making real progress here. Buying promotion will only lead to more debt on the credit card with little to no longer term benefit.

"Tory austerity measures all I replied was why they had to implement those measures." No they didn't. And the justification for why they did it, never materialised. Debt, they claimed that they would reduce national debt. They did not, it went up by nearly 80%. At the same time as they decimated public services. Then they brought us Brexit. Then they foisted Boris effing Johnson upon us. You must be soon proud of that record France. Your very bitter Oldie 😂😂😂 Some of us have every reason to.

What weight would you give to the correlation between police numbers and crime rates? Stop and search has reduced significantly during Sadiq Khan's time as Mayor and by 44% in the past two years alone. The past two years Khan has had more Police Officers in the Met and City of London Police than Boris had at any time. True, but a drop before and for a while too. Not a huge difference tbf. www.statista.com/statistics/864928/officer-numbers-of-the-metropolitan-police/The other suggestion is that a lot of community groups closed down since 2010, certainly things like SureStart were lost where I live. That will have an affect too.

Because you don't accept that verdict. So which is it, because you can't have it both ways..? You'll have to explain. (If I'm wrong) Of course I accept the result of the Mayor elections, it was a democratic vote and although I may not like the result I accept it. I just wish those on the brexit thread instead of crying, whinging and demanding another referendum would be as accepting of that democratic vote. Are we not allowed to validate the process and question the benefits?

Russian forces attacking towards Kharkiv, going to get 'interesting'. 😶 Reason? If Russia takes the city, it'll open up the space behind to push into. Both sides will want it, meaning lots more casualties. Russia seems to be willing to pay the price, Ukraine can't on moral or practical grounds so relies on western technical superiority. It'll be a test case for Western resolve.

Doesn't the West Midlands have the highest knife crime rate? Who was the mayor again? Anyway, I know it's the Guardian: "The murder rate in London has also dropped in recent years. Early figures suggest 110 murders were recorded by the Metropolitan police in 2023 – broadly in line with 2022. That’s down from a peak of 153 in 2019, and is also lower than the 120 recorded in 2015 – Boris Johnson’s last full year as mayor." www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/feb/26/fact-check-has-sadiq-khan-really-overseen-a-surge-in-londonThe data is recorded and published in so many ways by so many authorities you can probably spin it any way you like... This is from the ONS: "...the [data] above shows that the number of knife or sharp instrument crimes recorded by the Metropolitan Police Sercive fell in each year from 2011/12 to 2015/16 [under Johnson]. It reached a peak of over 15,600 incidents in 2019/20. Following the pandemic, knife crime has risen in each year and 13,300 incidents were recorded in 2022/23..." As always. The article in the Guardian is referring to murders, the ONS is reported knife crime. West Midlands is worse apparently.

Why do we need a screen anyway? Advertising? No doubt if we didn't have one we'd want one.

Good here, in'it? "The problems farmers face are complex. They blame the government for pushing them out of business, pointing to the lack of affordable labour after Brexit; the need to tackle climate change - with agriculture accounting for 10% of the UK's total greenhouse gas emissions - leading to new regulations, and the growing realisation that for most people buying British is a luxury they can't afford." news.sky.com/story/it-keeps-me-awake-at-night-can-british-farming-survive-13132220

When she wanted a family name for Harry Potter's uncle and auntie, she wanted one that represented a bleak and miserable life. She chose Dursley. 😀 I know, should've been Mr and Mrs Nailsworth. Forcing poor Harry to be using wind power in the cupboard under the stairs. Should have been the Ashton-Gates family but I guess that would be more Stephen King and it's a children's book. 😁

J.K. Rowling's son is supposed to be a Rovers fan! Makes sense she was born in yate, and lived in winterbourne down for a while 🤔💙 When she wanted a family name for Harry Potter's uncle and auntie, she wanted one that represented a bleak and miserable life. She chose Dursley. 😀
