Absolutely agree --- sadly since our return to League 1 our defence was not good in the first two seasons. The defensive solidity has only coincided with GC's managership. In 2016/17 we finished 10th (under DC) and conceded 70 goals (an average of 1.5 goals per game).. Only 4 teams conceded more goals. In 2017/18 we finished 13th (under DC) and conceded 66 goals (an average of 1.4 goals per game). Only 6 teams conceded more goals. In 2018/19 we finished 15th (under DC & GC) and conceded 50 goals (an average of 1.1 goals per game). 19 teams conceded more goals. In the current season we are currently 4th (under GC) and have conceded 12 goals (an average of 1.0 goals per game). Only 2 teams have conceded less goals. Now I know you can prove anything with statistics but undoubtedly, in my opinion, the managership of GC has resulted in the creation of a team that is difficult to score against and is very adept at accumulating points. Incidentally, this post is not an attack on DC. Under his leadership, we played an exciting brand of football that was very successful for a long period. Sadly it started to drift away at the end. Nonetheless, he should always be remembered with great affection for his massive achievements at our club. UTG Without prejudice, as I admire them both, but I think DC knew that his “try to win every game” approach wasn’t working precisely because the defence wasn’t good enough and that is why he brought GC in.

Why would any non-fan buy Rovers and spend many years and many tens of millions on a new stadium, training ground, youth system and first team when they could buy a championship club? Because the latent potential and possible future rewards are greater for a club in our division and geographic location than for a similar outfit where there is already market saturation. There is also the opportunity to fine tune a new stadium development to maximise revenue which could be more restrictive and relatively more expensive at an established Championship club. I bet the output of a comparative spreadsheet would put us very close to the top of a list of potential high return investments in football.

This thread is surely now the greatest thread in the history of threads I preferred the one about a giant spider. 🕷 (comedy gold)

Interestingly Ali said 'party' rather than consortium, or am I reading into that too much? Party in St Phillips woohoo, Goon time That should get people in “Motion”. 😂

So there are now 2 groups interested in the club? How do you know? Are we being sold on e-bay and if so when does the bidding end?

I'm not brilliant at maths but I thought there was supposed to be news on the 11th, 12 hours will be the tenth or am I getting this wrong? it was the tenth but I cannot see a midnight announcement somehow! Why? It’s peak time on Gaschat between 11pm and 2am as a sufficient quantity of keyboard warrior fuel has been consumed by then, loosened the fingers and inspired/enraged the grey cells. Who said the management don’t know their market (pun intended).

If some of the people posting on here actually stopped and considered what they had written as if someone else was writing about them I think they would be extremely hurt. Virtually all of our players are treated like commodities at one time or another rather than human beings with feelings. Even the Beard was both lauded on one hand and dismissed as limited in very unflattering terms on the other, and that was for one of the most popular players of recent years.
If you were to receive a written appraisal at work which said f**king useless, hasn’t lived up to potential, hardly ever delivers, doesn’t put enough effort in, is too slow, is too old and should be moved on as soon as possible you probably wouldn’t feel particularly motivated to give your best. So imagine turning up on a match day knowing that not only the opposition but the home crowd as well are looking to criticise and jeer at you. It’s no wonder that some players are crushed by the level of vitriol aimed at them so I would definitely recommend that they did not read the forums.

That is a great comment. Well done, did you mean it? Really made me smile! UTG! Thanks Wareham - It was a somewhat feeble attempt at dry humour!! UTG Are you really Ricky Gervais? (Golden Globes 2011 closing speech). 😂

Option 3. It’s more slimming and god knows I need all the help I can get these days. NB: I agree it’s a poor selection to choose from and feels like the person who put them together is either not connected to our club or hasn’t done their research into our history properly. If you want to sell you need to understand your market.

That Sinclair chap has a lot to answer for. Any man who can invent the Spectrum 48k and get us out of the Conference is not to be messed with. Posh git! 16K not good enough for you? 😂

If Messi was playing on Tuesday night I still wouldn’t go. There’s more chance of me fingering the queen than me attending one of these tinpot cup games. ”Cor blimey” said Liz, “dis is pleasure”, as she raised an eyebrow. 😂

If we are mid-table and looking likely to stay there then he will probably go but if things go well and we are in the top six he could be tempted to stay as he knows he’s the main man and would get his chance at a higher level with us. He must be aware of what happened to 🐍 and it’s not as if his career has been a continual success so he might, just might, appreciate his current good fortune and bolster his reputation with us for a while longer. Strangely I think he might also show a bit of loyalty to GC as it’s down to the gaffer’s interest and faith in him that he is suddenly in the spotlight. I reckon he will be with us for the full season but will move on in the summer if we are still in League 1.

When they do our presentation maybe use some elements from this.. That was really interesting from a design perspective. I agree that the atmosphere has not been given due consideration in many modern stadia which have been a triumph of style over substance. The proximity to the pitch and steepness of the rake is crucial for this and it looks like Everton will get it right. I don’t think it is a coincidence that the Gooners became less of a force despite moving to a bigger stadium, so say in order to compete, but lost their mojo in a soulless bowl. I also agree that there needs to be a sense of identity, which always worried me about the UWE when we have so much iconography to draw on with both the pirate and gas monikers. I’m not suggesting that we should have a crass theme park style pirate ship but elements of the form, structure and materiality could influence the aesthetics to give us a unique home that would resonate with the existing fan base but also serve as a draw for future generations. Good architecture can transcend mere functionality and a stadium is a prime opportunity for both individual gratification and civic pride. Fingers crossed we finally get the opportunity to realise our dream.
