100% right. Football is a very basic game that is over thought by people due to the TV world and how puntits touch there touch screen tvs and show us all these different formations! Bottom line is "soccer" is a basic sport of 11 vs 11....The managers role at any club is to try to sign the best players for his club within his budget. And get them to try and win a match. Give me a 4-4-2 attacking minded manager ( like fergie or Keegan ) anyday of the week. What ever happened to the 2-3-5 formation when i played as a nipper ? Never set up Subbuteo any other way. Think it was in the rules. It was good enough for the Gas to beat Brazil (1970’s team) on many occasions.

If LL’s game going forward is above par but his defending needs a bit of work then what better manager to work with than GC.

...but it was DC who was getting the best out of Ellis and we have no idea if he gets on with GC. I would suspect that GC would steer well clear to avoid having any form of comparison made. His gaff, his rules!

Bad grammar and spelling don't annoy me. It happens. I do get annoyed by the people who get annoyed by people pointing out bad grammar and spelling. Surely you mean poor syntax and spelling, like this sentence. 😂

I seem to remember we had awful issues with injuries whilst we were still sharing with the egg chasers and before the recent pitch improvements. So, from a stats point of view there is evidence that we need not be so cautious now when it comes to squad size especially if we retain the excellent medical team. I know there is still an element of bad luck and malintent that you can’t legislate for but every team faces that.

...at least he wouldn’t need half a season to bed in! Also, bearing in mind what GC said about him needing to find a home, rather than being loaned out all the time, it might be exactly the situation he needs to flourish especially if he was to feel the Gas love.

l’m not convinced that DC actually wanted a large squad per se but felt that he needed one because of the changes to the loan rules meaning that he needed more players for insurance against injuries. The obvious consequence of that, with a finite budget, is a lowering of quality to increase the quantity.
He then also faced that age old dilemma of trying to keep everyone happy for squad unity purposes (which his previous successes were based upon) for which, theoretically, his individual project/squad rotation philosophy is the answer. Unfortunately in the last eighteen months or so he didn’t quite get the balance right between the two for us to be successful. However imagine the uproar on here if we had only had a small squad and lost a large percentage of the first team through injuries necessitating use of the development team for long periods of time just to complete our fixtures. People would have been moaning that it was a foreseeable risk and that we should have planned better.

From Pirate’s post on page 2: Sign potential from non-league or u23's, improve them, replace them before getting sold, reinvest a percentage to have a continuing loop of talent. That type of player has served us well in the past and most of the best players in our history has been from this type of route.
...and then, just occasionally, you might get enough critical mass (like a Man U Class of 92) to mount a promotion challenge before they disappear but hopefully get to the next level first.

From a competition point of view it was better when all games were on a Saturday at the weekend and you could watch a bit of the lower leagues on Match of the Day as well as the top flight. Unbridled greed has changed all that irreversibly. ☹️

If we were to play the S**t in a preseason match would it be called a friendly?

We meet every other saturday, and sing songs together. ...during which a collection is taken for good causes. This is followed by 90 minutes of penitence officiated by a man in ceremonial black garb. We also pray for those poor souls afflicted by goal droughts, the lame and for divine intervention in injury time.

So if we play Newport first game th scoreboard could read:
GAS EXILES
Bit extreme Or more likely: G S EX IL $=$=$÷|×|{|✓$ ÷¶÷¶÷¶÷ That almost makes the powers that be seem like they are unprofessional whereas having the summer to undertake a “soft landing” process and thus avoid ridicule if it were to go wrong on its first day of operation is clearly a sign of good governance. 😉

Dunno yet. DePends if Dylan is leaving. If he is then it's not a new role. Considering staffing elsewhere going I doubt it's an additional job. Maybe GC has identified an another area where we need strengthening. 😉

GC now gone right out to 2/1 compared to this morning's odds with Holloway the new favourite. Why? Did he accidentally cut his finger on TV and bleed green?

I see John Ward is a coach there!!! So someone he know's is already there. It’s not what you know but who you know.....only kidding! Eminently qualified and perhaps now a touch more realistic about the real life potential of the lower leagues after his period of reflection. I wish him well. Nice art gallery in Walsall too where no doubt he will be spending plenty of time, 😂.
