Same applies to rovers. Assuming burton get relegated our attendances would be the lowest in the championship and if we struggle attendances will be no higher than they are now. Not much to do with attendances anyway most championship clubs are propped up by wealthy owners including millwall, preston and brentford 3 clubs often cited of great examples of progressing with modest finaces etc. Surely 4,000 at shrewsbury with a modern all seater ground = 9,000 at rovers I beg your pardon. Am I labouring under a misapprehension? I thought we were gert massive and could harness crowds of 50k if we want. 😉

Maybe DC is going to try Slocombe up front, as the big target man that some have been calling for, and Mildy is getting some minutes under his belt just in case he’s called into action. 😉

Quiet happy that DC will became the "Arsene Wenger" of Bristol Rovers........... I’m up for that. A couple of Prem titles, a smattering of FA Cups, a bit of Champions League and then slumming it in the Europa. Mind you it sounds a bit expensive. Also, will DC have to start talking in a pseudo French accent?

...but he’s the only manager in our history to take us out of the football league! 😂
(For those whose irony detectors aren’t functioning I think DC is the best thing to happen to the club since sliced bread,...or sourdough in DC’s case).

The only way the owners can demonstrate real intent is to buy Rich a proper bus. 🚎👏😊

Training ground plans being submitted within 8/9 weeks but when asked what it included Mike Turner refused to divulge as it needed to be confidential until planning submitted. It would be phased and the first team will benefit by its use first. this ................................is .........................................so...........................................painfully ...........................................slow They are probably waiting for the results of an outdoor weathering test to choose between polyester or cashmere jumpers for the goalposts. 😉

Welcome to Rovers, Kris - already a legend in my eyes for the defeat of Beechen Cliff. Oi...Squiffy junior attends Beechen Cliff, and it’s a bloody good school (apart from hosting an outreach of Southampton FC Academy, boo, hiss!) It also gave us Matt Macey, Paul Tisdale and the late Sir Roger Bannister.....oh, and one for the ladies, Andrew Lincoln. 😉

Thought that's what happens on here anyway..? I did hear a whisper that things are made up on here but didn't like to say. You’ll be telling us next that Father Christmas doesn’t exist, but I know for a fact that he does because I’ve seen him at the Mem in his kiosk.

It’s not just form, it’s also cover for injuries which can happen at any time. We would be up in arms if we only had one senior keeper, lost him, and then had to rely on a teenager as stand in for any length of time. It’s good to know that we have a plan B for once. 😉

Funnily enough I was just looking at the League 2 and National League tables in Metro and was reminded how fortunate we have been when you see that Barnet are bottom of the pile, Coventry are not at the top, it’s touch and go whether Tranmere are likely to reappear and Torquay are disappearing into the sunset. There’s no god given right to be in any particular league. Apart from the first few weeks of DC’s reign we have only really been looking up and he’s even managed to turn around the couple of runs of poor form which get other lesser managers the sack (except Tisdale).
I also think he appreciates the scope of his position in that he has a fair amount of influence over the development of the back room staff and youth set up, so he is effectively moulding the club to meet his requirements for future success. You don’t get that opportunity at every club so as long as progress is being made, and there is the potential for increased funding when necessary, I think he will stick around.
Despite the interest from Leeds, having not played at the higher levels other clubs will probably have reservations about whether he could cut it in the Championship, or above, so his most realistic route to the top is to get us to the next tier. Fingers crossed! 🤞

The smell was the fumes from the ovens that heated the coal to produce the gas.Steam was released into the furnaces to increase the amount of gas recovered. That was the reason for the clouds of damp white smoke that we all consumed especially when stood on the tote. Happy days! It’s amazing that anyone who attended Eastville regularly and breathed that lot in is still alive!

Of course we are going to win. Don’t you listen to DC? We will be playing away from home on a decent pitch! I will be expecting a Melchester Rovers style performance (no namby pamby thermal vest or glove wearing) and anything less than six goals will be a disappointment. 😉

It’s an interesting one as it appears that the balance of power shifts from the club to the players the higher up the pyramid you go. DC’s policy of recruiting young keen players with a point to prove, on short term contacts, is easier in the lower tiers as the talent pool at that level is obviously bigger and the competition fiercer. In the last twelve months or so the recruitment experience at Rovers suggests that model may no longer be possible and regrettably a more talent retention based approach is necessary. It will be interesting to see what develops.

TBF It is not just in the height department that we are lacking we are also lacking pace a few flair players and a regular goal scorer. The fact is we have not got the best team in this division player for player, but between DC and the team spirit we are competing near the top end. It would be great to have players with all the attributes, but they cost money and even if we produced them they would probably be lured away. At the end of the day we might not always be great to watch but you can't fault the effort of the lads. Talking of pace and flair, did you see Muzzy’s goal for the Tractor boys this weekend? His acceleration was awesome!

Before I close this, what's your record on starting match threads? Of the last 5 started by me we have won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1. A mixed bag of results but that will change today of this I am certain. LJG lost the last one so a change was needed There’s no room for individual egos on this forum (and there’s no evidence as far as I can tell...😂). We need to utilise the whole squad if we’re going to be successful this season so accepting rotation is just part of being a Chat head.

Apparently if you took Josh Morris' goals out of their side they would be 12th, so he will obviously be one to watch and a threat. They also have Ivan Toney who is a handful. Apart from those two they don't have anyone that particularly stands out and if we play to our best I think we can win. Edit: I forgot about Hakeeb Adelakun, who is a class act and been outstanding for them this season...if he plays he will be a real danger man. I also like Cameron McGeehan who has been coming off the bench recently. I just had a read of the Scunny article linked at the beginning of this thread and then the Graham Alexander preview of the match where he says that Toney is most likely out injured. 🙏

Nil carborundum illegitimi. volenti non fit injuria (Tiddly om pom pom), Nunc universo gaudio, Ludo pensisque functi, etc, etc,......Sumus Bristolienses. Ought to be able to adapt the old school song as a Rovers refrain especially where the multiple repetitions of “Sit” in the chorus were always shouted out with an extra h in them. 😂
