I think Clarke did well enough. I doubt he was 100% fit since his injury, that should be sorted in pre-season. His attitude must meet DCs expectations and with him on the bench covering the back 4 you can load it with 3 strikers.

I didn't think his interview was indicating he was likely to stay. I think we would have been between 4 and 6 points better off if he had played instead of Nichols. If DC is keeping him under wraps and everyone here knows about, so does the rest of the world. Stoke will offer him a contract and loan him out to a team that will use him more.

It seems the Black Cats will be able to spend whats left of their parachute, and according to Ellis Short half the clubs last in L1 don't spend anything on transfers so it should be easy. Bet their first game is Accrington away.

I have to agree with both of the above, only other name I would throw into the ring is Marcus Stewart. I wouldn't go down the experienced route though as we seem to have found a template for success for us, going with the younger managers. Especially ones who have an association with the club already. It might seem the more risky option, but it is cheaper and seems to work for us better. MS didn't do well when he was in charge against Doncaster, and it must have been on his recommendation we've got Nichols. Heir Apparent Tony Craig?

Didn't Andy Collett get caught out with a player who was waiting (out of play) behind him when he rolled the ball out. Against Bournmouth?

Slocombe 7. Genuine first choice
J. Clarke 6 Did all right, but was spoken to by Craig on a couple of occasions. Craig 8 Captains performance Broadbent 6.5 Blackburn not the team to be clever with, but there again if you play it too safe Craig lets you know (J Clarke) Brown 7 Plenty left in Browner
Lockyer 6 Defending good, distribution so so
Moore 8.5 Best game ever for Rovers Lines 6.5 Came good with the goal. I thought Lockyer cramped his style. O. Clarke 8 Normal strong game but without the mistakes Bennett 7 Blackburn put plenty on him but still caused them problems
Harrison 8 DC asks a lot of Ellis and gets it.Deserved a goal today.
Subs: Gaffney 6 Plenty of effort but up against better teams he struggles Telford 6 Helped maintain pressure Baghdadi 7 Hard act to follow replacing Moore, but did well enough
Crowd 7 Got behind the team well Ref 5 He gets a 4 for the first half and 1 for the second half (for allowing Linesey's goal) Blackburn 6.5 Didn't have enough energy for a top two team.

Anyone remember the last home game meeting, March 92, Jack Walker had just spent a record £1 million on a new striker, and was there to see his debut, plus Kenny Dalglish was their manager.
Boris ripped them up for ass paper. One of the most satisfying games I've watched.

Bradford, Peterborough, Charlton, Scunthorpe, Rotherham, Portsmouth, possibly Blackburn or Wigan could all be in our division next year. Luton, Sunderland, maybe Coventry, maybe Bolton or possibly even Reading could also be joining us. Season isn't over yet, bburn Wigan and one of the others could go up and Sunderland, Bolton and Reading could all survive (but that would probably mean Birmingham will join us) How hard is the division going to be next season? It wasn't easy last year, definitely harder opposition this year, and next year could be ridiculous. Then you have to take into account the surprise packages - Shrewsbury, I don't think many people would have tipped them for survival in July, Plymouth have gone from bottom to 5th with the help of every available refereeing decision. If 12 of the above mentioned teams are in L1 next year it will be the hardest league one in a very long time. Can we compete? Your comment about Plymouth is just laughable! I would suggest sour grapes because of the game against us. Just face the fact that they have changed their season around by winning far more games by their own performances rather than relying on referees every game. Thought they turned their season round after they got rid of Blisset.

If it applied to L1 we would be 6 points off the playoffs.
Slightly fairer IMO, the the lower clubs have to play two extra games which strains the fitness.
And if they are changing the system, perhaps if the games are tied, the higher placed team goes through without a penalty shootout or extra time.

On a side note, yesterday was the best HT entertainment for a while to be fair! If you are in the West Enclosure, because of the new tunnel you don't see the H/T entertainment

I heard a former county cricket player talk about fitness and injuries and he made an interesting observation. 'Back in the day' you seldom heard of players having strains or injuries. Tales are often told of Fred Truman etc bowling for hours on end. There's no doubt now that players are fitter and more athletic, but they are often so 'finely tuned' that it is much easier to break down. There's no 'give' in the body. Obviously there are injuries that cannot be avoided, but many of the strains, pulls, stresses you hear of must be down to the quest for maximum physical fitness. From what I remember, Fred Truman's training regime consisted mainly of spending several hours exercising his right arm in the bar after the close of play (while us boys waited vainly downstairs waiting for his autograph). I suspect that it is not so much a question of finely tuned bodies, more that bodies are required to be much fitter than in Trumans day. The physical demands of modern sport are far greater than the 1970s. The cameras would often show Shane Warne in the pavilion smoking and drinking during Test Matches.

Slocombe 8.5 Two great saves
J. Clarke 6 Steady enough Lockyer 6 Looked awkward in midfield Craig 7.5 A real leader Brown 7 Got forward well
Moore 6 Decent first half, faded to normal second. O. Clarke 6 Combatative enough but lucky not to get punished for some poor passes Sercombe 7 Would probably have won if he stayed on. Mensah 6 I like Mensah, plenty of ball skill, needs to be aware more.
Bennett 9 The reason our makeshift midfield got away with it today. Put so much pressure on Charlton they had to strip out their midfield to cope with him Harrison 6.5 You can't give Ellis a low mark these days, but not much went his way.
Subs: Broadbent 7 Fitted in with Craig great Gaffney 6 Up against a decent defence but did OK Kelly 7 Looked composed and confident
Crowd 6 End of season noise Ref 4.5 OK, But how did he award twice as many freekicks to Charlton? Charlton 6 Pretty side, Won't make the playoffs

The FA must have thought Rochdale's pitch was unsafe for it to be relayed (£500k). The Mem is no way like that.

Would you have him back? Taylor that is. For me its like your girl has left, but you know she was a good shag. Then you hear that her new boyfriend is disappointed with her performance, and one day she will be dumped. Would you take her back, especially as you know she might have learnt some new tricks No I wouldn’t touch her with a barge pole, having been over that side of town for over a year she will come back with the clap. Taylors hardly got a kick, let alone a clap since he went there.

It was 3-3 and an absolutely amazing game. Stewie played a blinder on debut but Jock had a nightmare. First game of the season if I recall. Martin Dobsons first game in charge, 0-3 down. I seem to recall 20mans saying they ignored his instructions at half time and played it the way the team thought best.
