DC said completely unequivocally last night (at BRFPA Dinner) that we have one more promotion in us. Absolute fire in his eyes that that is what he wants & feels.
God knows what might happen if he achieves it, but that's a debate for another day.

Lee Brown In his interview was tactfully suggesting that the club is not Championship ready - if he thinks it, it effectively IMO suggests that rest of the playing staff think the same. IMO DC will be moving on sooner rather than later - he's taken the club as far as he can in its current state and to be totally true to himself he needs a bigger challenge and a stepping stone perhaps at a bigger League 1 club to test his capabilities at managing a club big enough to mount a serious challenge for promotion. If a club like Portsmouth came in for him, I'm 100% convinced in my own mind he would be off - and I wouldn't blame him one iota. Unfortunately the club is still locked in the previous century with little chance of serious progression until there is huge off field investment - and that's not coming any time soon to keep DC's undoubted ambitions fulfilled. The day is coming I'm afraid - sooner rather than later - when he will be leaving us. Not sure if I agree with LB over this. If we were to teach the Champ. In the Mem it would pretty well sel out every game, and there would also be a lot more TV money and big business interest and sponsorship. I attended the 1883 club bash on Wednesday evening, and I had to keep on reminding myself it was something put on by Bristol Rovers. It was slick, professional and expertly MC'd by a football TV personality. DC said a few words, and on several occasions he talked about his plans for next season. I didn't get the impression that he was thinking of going anywhere else. Oh, can I please be Baggins? Go on, please!

I think that if DC left any time soon then we would struggle in the short term. My reasoning for that is that DC and the current group of players work well together - they are a good fit. I don't think the same group of players would work as well for a more qualified manager, or even that a more qualified manager would view many of the current squad as up to Championship standard. Therefore, there would likely be a transitional period required and there is the possibility that we could struggle to maintain our league one status during that period. Before DC does eventually move on I would like to see the squad bolstered by better players with more technical ability. A better squad that would be more adaptable to the change caused by a new manager coming in. Mind you, another main concern of DC leaving is that whoever replaces him is going to have recruitment issues while the Mem remains in its current dilapidated state.

It was put on at someone else's venue, using mainly someone else's organisation, and a highish profile presenter we would have surely cost quite a whack. I really fail to see how that is in anyway improving the infrastructure of our club? Yes, it made the club look slicker but surely anything can be achieved with money and some planning. It hasn't improved the Mem, or anything else at the club (except maybe event planning).

Sounds to me even the owners are embarrassed by the set up at the Mem, why don't they just embrace hit it "crazy gang" style? Until they can deliver something better?

It hasn't improved the Mem, or anything else at the club (except maybe event planning). And these are precisely the reasons the club is moving forward. Someone (TG I assume) identified that a prime city centre site would be available. That person also organised for a highly professional video illustration to be created, and run seamlessly with the MC presentation. Present were some 500 people, many of them would be successful local business people, there as guests of 1883 members. They would have been impressed, there would have been plenty of networking done, who knows how much money might be generated as a result of the event? If no additional money whatsoverer comes from it, it has raised the club's profile massively. Or we could do what you seem to suggest you prefer; have the draw in some ratty suburban WMC, with a mumbling, stuttering Bristolian presenting the awards, backed up with VCR clips on a 43" TV. "An, laydeez an Gennlemun, our playerrr of the yurrr is Liam Serrcumm. Gert well done son, cum up yer an say a few gert wirrrds, like" I know how I prefer my club to be presented.

If DC were to leave I don't think we need to look any further than John Coleman or Paul Tisdale, both doing exceptional jobs with small budgets, playing good football.
