We aren’t rivals. We haven’t played each other in the league in TWENTY years. The only thing them losing does at the minute is keep them from making us completely irrelevant. It’s not funny it’s worrying Part of the rivalry stems also from trying to attract supporters from the same pool, as City and Rovers have been attempting to do with varying degrees of success for the last 70 years. It stems from the fact that some of us will have uncles, cousins, brothers, nephews, even fathers that support City. We can’t say that about another club. So whilst the footballing element to our rivalry has been diminished admittedly for some time, the rivalry is still there and will probably always still be there as long as both clubs remain fairly well supported and in the football league. We have fans who have never seen a Bristol derby and they have many more who haven’t. It doesn’t matter if they fail to win at home for the next 5 years. They’re getting enough points away from home. The longer they are above us, and have better facilities than us, the less relevant we become to them. The north/south Bristol divide isn’t what it used to be. I for one find it hard to laugh at them when we’re struggling in League two, playing in a stadium with 27 stands and tents. Yes they’ve chucked money it at but they’ve chucked less money at it than a lot of Championship teams and have also had big sales to be able to afford to.

Just out of interest, why did the Colchester player get sent off? He was the one being attacked and only held off Clarke to probably stop him from hitting him again. It did seem a bit harsh on the lad...or did I miss something? Could be that he was sent off for instigating whatever caused Clarke to lash out? (although surely just holding him back in that part of the pitch should just be a yellow, if anything).. or maybe putting his hands up in self defence was just mistaken by the ref to be aggressive rather than defensive? Probably more likely the ref didn't really see what happened and just saw two players "fighting" and sent them both off. Either way; it will be interesting to see what happens if Colchester appeal. Well.. Colchester appealed and.....

Needless to say we didn't appeal Clarke's red and we couldn't appeal Harries.

Needless to say we didn't appeal Clarke's red and we couldn't appeal Harries. I think you need an apostrophe for Harries as well, but where it might go is a brain teaser

The broader point is that Rovers never seem to appeal red cards. I imagine that there is a cost to doing so, but plenty of our opponents seem to regularly take a punt on appealing. Is it just that we find the appeal form too difficult to fill in?
I do think the Clarke sending off was the right decision and he let the team down, BTW.

Perhaps the club feel that we should only appeal strong cases rather than every single redcard. i would imagine that some clubs get the - " oh not them again " treatment .
