hi chaps i for one would be gutted if steve lansdown went as i like the club to be in a safe pair of hands. Granted on the pitch many mistakes has been made but of the pitch the man has done a great job and most of all put his money in to give us a chance of dreaming. Yes still dreaming. The only way he would sell up and has made this quite clear is if someone younger and with more wealth and ambition to take the club further i do find it funny when you chaps take the p/// with your set up.if im honest i dont think we are that far apart on the pitch but off the pitch we are miles ahead.back when i first followed in 1980 we both average about the same over them years we now double your attendance quite easy and before you say we are in the championship for the last few years we have been a struggling championship side and yes this year is a worry. You have a owner who fair play has wiped alot of your debts but everything else thats been talked about seems to be pye in the sky.as i have said on here before unlike some of my fellow ziderheads i miss the bristol derby as theres not many games get my heart pumping like it.cardiff swansea,reading or brum just dont come close for me and thats given you boys credit which i try not to do to often lol tinman hat at the ready Thinks that's a reasonable summing up of the two clubs position, not that far apart on field despite the gulf off field. Bit like a ford focus v fancy Merc or the like, both doing the same thing , Merc looks better but the Ford does the same thing! Think a lot of City fans very ungrateful as they have had some fantastic times last few years, some of the best times ever in cups, and have been a competitive championship side. They have to accept that standing as there are many far bigger clubs in that division but many fans seem unable to do so and continue to chase the holy grail. You prob won't understand this but i have no such ambitions for Rovers as i believe the Prem is ,well, lets just say it's not for me, hard though you may find it to believe i also took a load of positives from our season in the national league, being in awe at the dedication of fans at that level, anyway still early doors in season ,think you will struggle again(hope so!) and we will do ok, up the Rovers! PS Fair play to you for posting!

Maybe if he only had the 82ers and the ground/training ground it would be easier to sell, I was looking to buy a house last year, found a lovely one but it had a massive paddock and that actually put me off, without that paddock I was ready to put an offer in, who would want to buy the 82ers the Rugby and all the other sports teams he owns, oh well never mind, serves them right for all the arrogance over the years

Can we Gasheads do some sort of Glazers' style leverage buyout thing then go bust ?
22ers instead of 82ers has a nice ring to it.

Everyone's assuming they wil be worse off after Lansdown leaving. I mean there's a good chance they will be but someone might also see it as an opportunity to tap into the potential of a big city like Bristol having a premier league club. £38mil debt is nothing when they have the likes of Alex Scott, Semenyo etc who could offset it. It's not only the present debt but also buying out Lansdown and then meeting the annual debts, if a billionaire City fan can't afford it then who can? It sounds like Lansdown has been looking for investors for a couple of years and hasn't found any so far. Not sure Bristol will ever be that attractive as we have no real history of being a football city. You seem to live in the past Topper. It's like because something hasn't happened before it can never happen. Well it can. What is "a football city" out of interest. I know plenty of people in and around Bristol who love football. Maybe it's not a "football city" because we haven't been successful. It wasn't long ago people were saying football isn't a sport for girls...

The sad reality is the majority of them support teams that are about 175 miles away in the premier league and have no connection to them whatsoever other than they’ve won trophies.

Realistically nothing bad is likely to happen. Steve Letdown has always had their best interests at heart. The fact he's cocked it up a bit on the promotion side of the ledger over the years has been funny for us but is ultimately irrelevant because he has enough money to prevent any significant damage being done to the club. I'm sure if he does get out he'll sell to a decent buyer. The difficult bit will be offloading it. He's created a tangled web of sports clubs which is fine as his own personal Bristolian sports crusade but it's not that attractive to a prospective football club buyer I wouldn't have thought. He might be stuck with them for a while.

I've said this many times before, I do not understand Bristolian football fans who adopt teams miles away in another city, just because they win trophies. Glory hunting armchair supporters who never attend their team's matches. Surely to them football is just a TV programme. It's sad because the real football experience is supporting a team in your home city/town/village, who you can watch at least every home game, experience the real living breathing thing and above all else just be there. If all these football fans supported Rovers or City, we would have one or both clubs in the top flight, then football would mean something to them! I would rather see a kid in Bristol walking around the city in a City shirt than a Man U/Arsenal/Liverpool etc etc shirt. Obviously prefer a Rovers shirt though

I think you hit the nail on the head though with seeing the Kids with a City or Rovers shirt on. Because that is the way forward for both Bristol Clubs, and the city does deserve to be on MOTD Saturday night / Sunday Morning. Both my kids first matches were at the Gas in the Blackthorn and ever since are 100% GAS still going together with me tagging along. (Albeit, with their mates at the back.) One point though , I follow and support the GAS and made sure both boys follow their local team which I'm relived they do. However I'm a Saints fan as I've said before because my first match was with my dad at the Dell even though I've lived in Bristol now for over 40 years. Believe you me I definitely dont support the Saints because they win trophies!!!!!!!

Interesting point on the supporting of Prem clubs. There were enough people (Gasheads) gathered round the tv inside the bar of the beech hotel in Burton Saturday, some just an interest in the match but plenty more going bananas when Liverpool scored against Fulham….could hear them loud & clear from the other side of the grounds.
On a Rovers away day, whilst the sun was beating down on the pub garden. Couldn’t get my head around that at all. Each to their own I guess.

This is why we have to get kids into the Mem as early as possible, so that their local allegiance is engrained in them before TV football. Many will have a soft spot for a top flight team, I do, but that’s all it’s meanwhile Rovers are anyways will be my club. Born in the shadows of Eastville Stadium and brought up with it engrained in me. Quid a kid should be standard at home games and let visiting fans have it too.

Need to get them as soon as possible. My eldest I think was 4 or 5 and my youngest was 3 I think. I am surprised that although we do it sporadically we should be Kid for a Quid all the time. Id happily pay a bit more on my ticket, and by the time I've bought a couple of beers, cans of Coke, Chocolate, burger ect ect, the club would still be better off financially. But most importantly we have the new fans coming through that will be GAS Lifer's.

Obviously prefer a Rovers shirt though I've been to Anfield more times than two Bristol based Liverpool fans I worked with added together. They used to take the mickey out of a City fan in the department but at least he supported his local team and actually watched them live. I suspect many are 'soft' City or Rovers fans and just want to support a team succeeding. If either made it to the Prem or had a Cup Final, just watch them swap shirts and feign allegiance to get a ticket and a day out.

Mixed feelings on this. The filth were lucky to have the stinking turncoat arrive on their doorstep. Hopefully he won't pull a massive rabbit out of the hat and they become the next Brentford / Fulham and get mahoosive investment from some outside source.
On armchair fans, had 2 golden rules. If you drive past 2 football league teams to get to a glory team you should be ashamed of yourself.
Would sooner see kids and armchair fans wearing Chelsea / Man Utd / Man City shirts than filth shirts as this means they haven't given the filth any money. (I realise this is a flawed logic, in a black and white world)
* 'em.
