The following Swansea historical article from 2002 is just one that suggests frustration with Steve Hamer amongst Swansea fans. The situation was very different then from now - Swansea had no money at all then. Hamer's reign preceded their worst moments, but similarly it would be wrong to associate Steve Hamer with Swansea's subsequent rise in any way. www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/swanseacity/news/21148/a-chairman-elect Thanks for that Curly Wurly, very interesting. I was working on the Swansea Post a few years earlier when they only had 24 hours to save the club from winding up. At that time it was Dougie Sharp in charge. Later when he was criticised he threw his toys out of the pram and "sold up" to some bloke who then appointed someone called Kevin Cullis as manager, a guy who had only ever been in charge of some non-league Midlands youth team. He lasted a game and a half. So Swansea really was a mess. I don't remember much about this Silver Shield lot coming in, though I do remember they were doing really well when Molby got them to the play offs - playing fantastic stuff - and his sacking didn't go down well when they missed out. It was, in fact, Mike Lewis, not Steve Lewis, who was a prominent figure when all the real troubles kicked off under Tony Petty. I think there may have been a few disgruntled fans, but at least the article says that Hamer has all the right contacts and knows about mixing in football's corridors of power. We're 14 years on and he has probably learned a lot from past mistakes. Let's give him a chance. Drifting a little bit from Rovers, but still on Steve Hamer. For anyone with an interest, there is more discussed via the following links on Steve Hamer's involvement and moreover his brother Nigel's role in the Swansea City supporter's trust that eventually took over from Petty and then Mike Lewis. Based on this, I would withdraw my remark that "it would be wrong to associate Steve Hamer with Swansea's subsequent rise". Instead, these authoritative sources suggest that not only was Steve Hamer involved closely in providing key information to aid the set up of the Supporters Trust, but he had made a (minor) financial contribution. It does appear as though Steve Hamer became less involved, but his brother's increased. As far as know Nigel Hamer is still secretary to the Swansea City Supporters Trust Board which has a 21% stake in the club. planetswans.fansnetwork.co.uk/news/21173/the-return-of-hamerwww.swanstrust.co.uk/trust-facts-and-history/

The only certainty for me at the moment is that DC and the players are working their socks off to get promotion; and we fans have a big part to play tomorrow.
As regards the rest of it...............

Not particularly fussed one way or the other with Hamer. What does worry me is that it is quite apparent that due diligence at the outset fell short. Otherwise why are there issues that have ' come to light' that our new owners were not aware of? Our good friend Nick 'announcer man' was on Radio Brizzle this morning, and all but accused NH of being a liar over the court case etc. I am amazed if our new owners were not aware of what had gone before, and not only did full due diligence on our club, but also asked the UWE what had or had not been agreed with our club. It seems there is an investor out there who is prepared to fully fund the stadium build, but Hamer has history with them, and doesn't want to know. It's just a shame that Wael is not more accessible to us mere mortals, so we can get direct answers to direct questions. I.e. Will our fans directors be shown more respect by the new board than they were by the old board? If so, why even now has there still been no board meetings? Are you saying there is another 'investor', as yet un-named, willing to pour money into the club? Here we go again....is it time to fire up the 'New Beginning' thread? What a load of bull, time will tell. Tick-tock, tick-tock.......

Perhaps, like everyone else, they're waiting to see if we go up before announcing anything certain. Promotion will have a big effect on attendances, budgets and future prospects. The stadium won't be ready for 2 seasons - we could go up and back down again in that time ! Was that you on ITV news? Saw the name and same yours.

It was only an interpretation. Mr Hamers press releases, which somehow get people all excited, have learnt me naff all. They could still start digging some foundations whilst deciding what constitutes common sense! Training ground and players contracts are Ill timed stocking fillers...but whatever makes you happy... For a bit I thought you were just having a laugh but now I can see that either you are a shithead or just completely thick. This regime are different gravy but even they can't just wave a magic wand and give you everything you want in an instant. Under old regime UWE would now be dead. Under old regime we would not have identified 3 sites for a new training ground to buy and develop. Under old regime we could kiss good bye to our best players at the end of season. The new regime aren't back of fag packet merchants like Higgs, they aren't just going to run with whatever he may or may not have written on the back of the fag packet either! Most people of course get that but there's always one. I think Illl go to the pub for some sensible debate on the matter! not really appropriate calling a long term poster a sh** head. Attack the post and not the poster you big fat bellend!

Hi, new to this forum, now living in Swansea. I was out and about two nights back and got talking to a couple of very decent Jacks ( I know ) but they were and knowledgable to about our club. Didn't have any animosity at all, in fact in two years here I haven't, I mentioned Steve Hamer in glowing terms and they were very surprised he was still on football, one even amazed he was allowed to be in football. Apparently he was the catalyst for them nearly losing their club, OK a long time back but their clear message was don't trust him at all. These guys were as I say decent IMO, and some of the things they attach to Mr Hamer when at Swansea I wouldn't put on here. But they stated its a clear indication of time will tell, he has the gift of the gab and will cloud issues easily. I imagine it's a case of let's wait and see, but things are moving slowly, I suppose we will be more wiser of the financial clout of our club come the end of the summer. I am also now worried Mr Hamer is talking about getting new investors in to support basic ventures, my supposition was he fronted a massive financial institution already. Why would he do that ? My first concern in all this is now raised. PS - He was a presenter some thirty years ago on TVS - which was a regional broadcaster as I understand it. Hence his decent use of media and ability to talk to people. Was the man who got Chris Hollins ( ex Swansea manager son of John Hollins ) in to tele by all accounts. I'm remaining in the jury's out camp but I am concerned. Are you sure they haven't mixed him up with Steve Lewis, who was virtually hounded out of Swansea and ended up in charge of Exeter during the infamous year of Uri Geller? I used to work in Swansea but have never seen Steve Hamer's name mentioned in terms of bringing the club to its knees. Also, I think there may even have been a police investigation at Exeter over Lewis, who used to be a big wig at Spurs Hi, I spoke to a friend this morning who said clearly Hamer was the issue, he employed Lewis a long term friend who was later arrested for fraud. Lewis he thinks had a first name of Mike. However, everyone needs a chance, I am just keeping it all crossed Hamer isn't plying games like he clearly did at Swansea. Any more disappointment would hurt a lot.
