1) There are a lot of fans that want Barton as our new manager and see him as our best or only chance of staying in L1. 2) There are fans that would rather it wasn't Barton but will accept the appointment. 3) There are a small but vocal minority that say they will no longer support the club if Barton is appointed. I may be wrong and only time will tell but personally I think most of those in category 3 would continue to support the team even if they don't support the manager. There may be a few that don't but what makes the biggest difference to fans is success on the pitch. Assuming Covid is under control, if Barton keeps us up and we're doing well next season they'll be crowds approaching 10k at the Mem. If we're relegated and struggling in L2 they'll be crowds of 5k. That's the bottom line. The board have got to do whatever it takes to give us the best chance of staying in L1 because we'll lose far more fans and money if we're relegated to L2 than we would by appointing Barton. I find the idea of the board doing "whatever it takes to give us the best chance of staying in L1" quite a funny idea. Every appointment they've made where they've not had it thrust upon them has been an absolute mess.

a) I'm not really sure why people are seemingly celebrated long standing fans deciding not to watch the club any more. It's a pretty sad set of circumstances if people are put into a position where they feel they can't support their clubs actions.
b) If Barton is appointed it's clear there is absolutely no plan at all, an absolute mess.

Let's be honest here, Fleetwood's budget will go a bit further than ours;
1 hour 15 minutes drive from the centre of Manchester 1 hour 25 minutes drive from the centre of Liverpool 1 hour 40 minutes drive from the centre of Leeds
The cost of living is significantly cheaper and 40 of the 92 League clubs play within 100 miles of Fleetwood (compared to 27 with Rovers). No one wants to move house, so if Rovers and Fleetwood offer the same deal a lot of players will sway towards Fleetwood.

FWIW I think that the bloke is a good manager, however the amount of split opinions on socials and here make it a high risk appointment. I’d prefer some unity amongst the fanbase after 2 years of in-house fighting but it’s not my money and I don’t make the calls! The man on his only job thus far is clearly a tidy League One manager, the only thing going against him is his repeated issues away from the football side of football. It would just about be the most Rovers moment of all time if Barton is appointed, keeps us up and is then sacked when he trots off to Horfield nick in July. Truly Bristol Rovers DNA.

He is a part of the 'Get Hooked on Fishing' campaign, designed to keep children out of trouble by encouraging them to take up fishing.
"Get Hooked on Fishing", Joey Barton takes a group of young boys with ASBOS to Lee Bowyer's Carp Fishing lake in France to try and get them back on track.

That's an arbitrary line drawn in the sand though. Like saying "I've not sh** myself since I last sh** myself". I'm not sure it is arbitrary though - if you're looking to appoint someone as a manager then I think looking at their conduct as a manager is a fair place to start really. Don't get me wrong, he's clearly no angel but I also think it's fairly clear he's calmed down somewhat with age. Whether he's calmed down enough is open to interpretation really. Like I've said previously, I think it would be a touch daft to appoint a new manager who could well be getting a job managing the Mean Machine in the summer.

He has a court case upcoming for assault on another manager 😂 So, i'm right then? Going from the list, I don't know if there is anything it's missed in this time period, Joey is currently innocent of any wrong doing since becoming a manager? That's an arbitrary line drawn in the sand though. Like saying "I've not sh** myself since I last sh** myself".

To be honest, I don’t think the taking kids argument is really valid as there were so few families/kids at the Mem (pre lockdown) anyway. The demographic of the fan base is getting older and older. A few die hards drag their kids along but one of mine asked me why all his mates get to have a proper day out and lunch at Ashton Gate while we queue at the pasty hut in the rain. So in a nutshell, like in politics, you set policies to appease your support base and in our case it’s more likely to be former Tote Enders than young families. Ok, so we forget Barton and appoint someone who’s unable to turn our dire fortunes around, and we end up bumming around League 2. What do you think that will do to our support base? Probably not much. Attendances have generally been between 6 and 8,000 depending on if the side is winning, not what league they are in for the last 20 years.

I am not one for the role model stuff, but Barton is a loose cannon still enjoying your job as a defence lawyer Widdrington should look to get in a defence lawyer. He's been done under the trade descriptions act with ours.

Me too, I think that would actually be a savvy move by the board. Would prefer him over Barton. Did a wonderful job at Oldham. ...but there’s little chance of him going to prison this summer.

I think for Sam Frost to say DC isn't coming back, makes me think he does know who is getting the job or at least has a strong indicator Maybe more of an idea than our esteemed Director of Football...

Starting to get annoyed with “Barton’s a yob” brigade. Since he was manager at Fleetwood his last flashpoint was at Barnsley which he has vehemently denied. Seems to have grown up, seems very knowledgable whenever I hear him, and deserves to be judged on his managerial record rather than misdemeanours in his playing days. Give the bloke a chance. And I tell you now he’d spend more time researching our players than tisdale who didn’t know their names 2 weeks in. And is far more current and relevant to league one football. You're completely right, only the two convictions for violent offences with only one trial for a violent offence hanging over his head. It's basically nothing.

I wouldn't be against hiring Barton but I do think there's not many lines of work where someone would be employed with a criminal case hanging over their head with two previous convictions for violent offences, add on top of that his 18 month ban from football due to gambling on games over a ten year period. Even saying that I think he'd be daft to take the job, his CV is reasonably strong and we're a basketcase at the moment.
I think I'll just sit back, eat popcorn and wait to see the explosion of Gas fury whoever is appointed.

He has got done for assault a number of times as well though, so it’s not like that was a one off incident that was an accident. As a manager you would have thought that he had grown up, but then didn’t he assault Stendall not long ago as well?? He spoke well on the podcast, he obviously has a side that cares. Wouldn’t sign a new contract, until everyone else was sorted and he paid some staff himself etc. His temper would be a massive worry though. He has pleaded not guilty regarding Stendel incident and as far as I know in this country you are innocent until proven guilty. I found this podcast about his time at Fleetwood quite interesting: anchor.fm/footballCFB/episodes/Joey-Barton---The-Manager-with-Fleetwood-ecssloIt would be very Rovers to appoint someone who then gets found guilty of ABH.

I had 14/1 on Albert Prince-Cox. what's the ppg for his last 8 geames It doesn't matter when you've got this much swag. A reasonably successful manager and commercial manager at the Rovers. TG can only dream of having the foresight to give us the quarters and the Pirates nickname!

I wouldn't read too much into that, literally every out of work manager/coach has had their odds shortened by some wally putting daft money on it because their Nan's neighbour put in some dado rails in the bar/changing room last week and saw a young man with the number plate JR08 ERY come into the carpark. I'm pretty sure Jim McLean was favourite for 48 hours despite being dead. Oh poop....that’s my money wasted. Felt sure it was a good bet......😜 I had 14/1 on Albert Prince-Cox.

Back in to 2/1 with skybet. I must say this doesn’t sit well with me for reasons stated already on this thread. Nothing against the bloke and if he gets it he’ll get my full support but just doesn’t seem very logical after the BG experiment.
