Slocombe - 6 steady performance pre sending off
Paddington 7.5 Good display but gave wide men a bit too much space Lockyer 7.5 Good display but distribution still a weakness. Missed a great chance Sweeney 7 a little uncertain at times but overall a steady performance Brown 6 - average display from Browner
Lines 6 - not up to his best Sercombe 6.5 battled hard but can do a lot better O. Clarke 6.5 poor first half but very good last 30 minutes Bodin 6.5 not a lot came off but always looked likely to create a piece of magic which kept the Walsall defence on their toes
Nichols 6 - ok display but nothing special Gaffney 7 - worked hard and scored a good goal
Subs: Harrison 7 - rapidly becoming consistent and hard working Leadbitter 5 terrible back pass pre sending off. Can play a lot better Andre 7 Lad did all that was asked of him but Walsall should have tested him a lot more
Crowd 8 Very quiet until sending off then dynamite. No doubt that the Blackthorn End gave Andre a big confidence boost with their support. Ref 6 Not as bad as others suggest. 1 red and 9 yellows in a game with only 16 fouls but I think that he got more of them right than wrong. My first reaction was a definite red for Slocombe Walsall 7 Looked a better side than us but lacked the cutting edge.

Slocombe 6.5. Steady display apart from the mistake in the first half that almost gave a goal away
Partington 6.5. Good assists but tended to give his winger too much space Lockyer 7.5. Good performace Sweeney 7. Occasionally uncertain but overall a good performance Brown 6.
Sinclair 6 O. Clarke 6 some good moments but not as effective as last season Sercombe 6.5
Bodin 7.5. His goals and influence can not be underestimated Gaffney 7. Battled well against big strong defenders Nichols 6.
Subs: Lines 7. Best of the midfield Harrison 8. We were under pressure when he came on. Scored and had another shot well saved. Did sterling work at the centre of defence at corners and even once popped up at right back. Moore 6.
Crowd 7.5 Ref 5 Fleetwood 7

Slocombe - 6 not really tested as Fulham only had a couple of shots on target all game. Distribution could of been better.
Bola - 8 - their left winger had a massive amount of the ball and looked dangerous. Bola managed to nullify him very effectively. Looks like he reads the game well. Lockyer - 7 Good defensive display although distribution could have better especially when under pressure Sweeney - 8 Very commanding performance Brown - 7 Competent performance
Sinclair - 6.5 Not his best performance but his energy was vital when being put under so much pressure Lines - 8 put in a good shift Sercombe- 8 put in a good shift and also involved in some good attacking movements
Bodin - 7 not at his best but always appeared capable of doing something special Harrison - 8.5 good goal and really unsettled their defence. Moore - 5.5 Did not notice him much
Subs: Nichols - 6 showed some energy but his main job is a striker and he failed to finish with a one on one although the goalie did well Gaffney - 6 apart from a brilliant through ball to set up Nichols was not as effective on the night as Ellis Broom - 6 did ok
Crowd - 8 (Rovers), 2 (Fulham) Ref - 6 was quite lenient especially when Sweeny reacted and pushed their player to the ground Fulham - 4 absolutely terrible in the final third. In the first half we looked very comfortable and could have gone in two goals up. In the second half they battered us and although we defended very well you would have expected any half decent side to have capitalised on their time spent in the final third.

Smith 5 unconvincing performance Leadbitter 3 terrible defensive performance. Looked unfit and had no help at all from Bodin Lockyer 4 Sweeney 5 Brown 5 Bodin 4 a few inspired moments but lots of mistakes. Also defensively poor Sercombe 6 best of the bunch but still many mistakes Lines 4 played deep but was not effective as a defensive midfielder Sinclair 4 ineffective Nichols 5 quite lively at times but needs to score goals. Appears quite lightweight Harrison 4 no worse than many others but his bad miss was crucial Subs: Moore 4 Gaffney 5 at least did what a striker is supposed to do O. Clarke 5 Crowd 7 Ref 5 Peterborough 9. Great movement. Well deserved victory

Smith 5 ok performance. Flapped at one corner. Distribution could have been better. Lots of high long balls which were not gaining us posession.
J. Clarke 5 too short a time on the pitch to truely assess Lockyer 4 looked a weak link. Nervy and poor distribution. Broadbent 6.5 good steady performance Brown 4 terrible final balls which which was one of the main reasons for not getting a result
Sercombe 5.5 best of the midfield but not as effective as should have been. Silly booking Lines 5 lots of the ball but no killer passes O. Clarke 4.5 not at the races
Bodin 4 Harrison 4 no lack of effort but just very ineffective Sinclair 4.5
Subs: Nichols 5 showed some good touches but should have done a lot better Broom 5 reasonable cameo but nothing special Gaffney 4 no more effective than Harrison
Crowd 6 good numbers of Gas but quite subdued Ref 5 Charlton 6 did not look anything special but I had to often count the players on the pitch as a lot of time it appeared that they had the extra man.

Very interesting to hear that DC has been given a top 6 budget. Must admit that when I heard him say that, I thought that he was meaning that Darrell thought that the budget was good enough to get the team into the top six which is different from saying that it is one of the six largest budgets. Must say that it was a very uplifting and professional interview apart from UWE. I am desperate for UWE to happen but now fear the worst.

Having just returned to the London after seven years living in India and Singapore (kept my Dribuild stand season ticket throughout and came back for as many games as I could) this would have enhanced my Saturday evenings a lot. Weekday games would have been a killer though remembering how long it took me to recover from watching the Rovers cup game against Cardiff last season which was on TV in Singapore and started something like 3am in the morning.

Lumley 6 - not his usual commanding self
J. Clarke 5.5 - got forward well at times but lacked quality Lockyer 5 - poor Sweeney 4.5 - could of done better in the lead up to the first goal. At fault for the second and numerous errors throughout the game. Harris 5 - poor
Bodin 6 - a class ahead of other Rovers players but final product was poor (pass and shots) Sinclair 5.5 - chased around. Went backward too often and was ineffective Lines 6 - similar to Bodin, clearly a class above most players but very sloppy Moore 5 - not very effective
Easter 6 - looked far better than James has recently Harrison 5 - poor penalty, one shot so far over the bar it is still in orbit, generally poor first touch and ineffective
Subs: Gaffney 6 - until he scored his goals looked less involved than Harrison was Partington 5 - didn't make an impact Broom 5 - didn't make an impact
Crowd 6 Ref 6 Peterborough 6 - we had more shots and corners than them but they were far better in front of goal and also defended better than us

Lumley 7 - looked in control. One good save.
Partington 6 - did ok Lockyer 8 - rock solid and better distribution than usual Sweeney 7 - solid game Harris 6.5 - good performance
Bodin 6.5 - not one of his best games but the classiest player on the pitch Sinclair 6 - lots of effort but too many sideways or backward balls Lines 6.5 - almost a good performance. Lots of the ball but not as effective as can be Montano 5.5 - looked good on a couple of occasions but can do a lot better
James 4 - just very ineffective Harrison 6 - was going to get a 4 until the goal which was very well taken. Followed up by brilliant goal saving last ditch tackle and some good defensive headers. His contribution was ultimately the difference between the two teams.
Subs: Moore 5.5 - similar to Montano Easter 5 - did not really add anything when he came on. Broom 6 - did ok
Crowd 6 - a bit quiet Ref 7 Oldham 6 - had lots of possession but I never felt that they would score

Lumley 7.5 - always looked in control
Lockyer - 8 Good game, just a couple of bad decisions Sweeney 7 - looked solid Clarke-Salter 7 - part of a back line that looked the part
Moore 6.5 - looked good at times, should continue to improve with a more regular place Mansell 7 - did very well considering the lack of games this season Lines 5.5 - has the ability but sloppy and careless too many times today Brown 6.5 - looked good at times
Sinclair 6.5 - ran and harried but not as effective as he could be
Bodin 6 - missed a couple of what are usually easy chances for him which could have changed the result Harrison 6 - didn't do too badly but never looked like scoring
Subs: James 6 - looked bright when he came on and set up a good chance for Bodin. Faded a bit. Easter 5.5 - no real impact Montano 5.5 - no real impact
Crowd 6 - a bit quiet Ref 7 Gillingham 6 - did not look very good but have to credit them with three very well taken goals

Lumley 7 - looked commanding but distribution could have been better at times
Lockyer 7 - looked steady Sweeney 6.5 - reliable but not outstanding Clarke-Salter 6 - did ok
Leadbitter 6 Sinclair 6.5 harried well but not overly effective Lines 6.5 looked good at times but numerous mistakes Brown 6
Bodin 6.5 - flitted in and out of game. Looked dangerous but missed a couple of reasonable chances Harrison 7 - tried hard. Was very good in the air including defensively. Didn't look like scoring though. Moore 7.5 (MoM) Scored a good goal, worked hard and was quite effective at times
Subs: Partington 6 Mansell 5.5 James 5 (lots of balls pumped up to him were wasted as he won nothing in the air)
Crowd - 7 Ref 6 Wimbledon 6 - looked quite poor but if they had taken their chances we might have lost. Frustrating that we did not get a couple of more goals in the first half.

Looking at a video of today's visit, the site appears to be very, very noisy. Not sure if it is all the motorway traffic noise or my laptop. Hopefully the trees in the original plan will help screen some of the noise. Good that the club are looking very carefully at the exact design of the site although could mean some more planning battles to come as a lot of things needed such as a gym and covered pitch, more classroom space were not in the original plans which were very detailed.
Hope for good news on the UWE as well but the comments today did not appear to anticipate imminent good news.
Onwards and upwards. Rome was not built in a day.

Very positive about new training ground. Does anyone have any idea about the usual area of a training ground/academy? Could not find much information on a quick google search but 28 acres seems small compared to that of the training grounds of the championship clubs where details were quoted.

Another 5 goal performance - Northampton 4 Bristol Rovers 5 in the 1960's is one of my all time favorite away trips. Wasn't that the Ray Mabbutt hat-trick game? Yes. I recall seeing him tried out as centre forward in a reserve match just before (think from memory he scored a lot of goals in that game) and hence he got the first team role. Probably the shortest player on the pitch as well.
