Whilst saying that the midfield is not good enough to protect the defence or create the chances is it not also true that the defence is also letting down the midfield by not having the pace to compress the game 20 yards further up the pitch? The problem when we go to 4-4-2 is it then leaves only 2 players in the centre and on Saturday it was very clear that the three players were struggling to contain Scunthorpe because they are having to mark not only their players but the players who are moving away from our defence. IMO we need an organiser from the back to ensure players are being MARKED and that player should be the Captain. Lockyer for all his talent is NOT that man - Hartley to me is the obvious choice. The midfield in a 4-4-2 must play more as a unit. When we play 4-4-2 it is a very clear 2 players in the middle with two out wide. It seems obvious to me that Ollie Clarke is not good enough and question marks over Sinclair will not be answered until we are much further in the season. He may prove to be good enough but I think we need two central midfielders in unless Moore can play inside because he seems to have the pace and skill to maybe play the role of running at defenders similar to how Scunthorpe ran at us. Opinions? I have to admit that I am a 442 man, mainly because it allows for width with full backs and wingers/wide midfielders to push up or defend together as a group. So for me signing CMs would the a litmus test for our ambitions and ability to recruit. In a 442 I see the two central players being one playmaker to support the forwards and one ballwinner to support the defenders. In my very simplistic view we have Lines (maybe Gosling and Lawrence) as the playmakers and Mansell, Clarke and Sinclair as the ballwinners. Decent players in their own ways but many are unproven in L1 and each carries risks that I don't think we can take without backup. As the loan system is changing and we have reintroduced reserve fixtures, new faces are needed. As for the rest of the team, I would be comfortable with seeing how the first half of the season goes and strengthen in January but midfield is where we will be either comfortable, challenging or facing a difficult season so need quality additions now. If I understand it right then we have this second season with FFP applying to us due to the dreaded relegation to you know where. If the money is there then surely now is the time to make the most of it. Whilst i understand that DC wants to give this unit a good crack, I also think he needs to not go too far in the experiment. Having said that I think maybe too much is being made of the step up to this league. We still have larger attendances than the majority in this league and I think that the team spirit can make a team so much more than the sum of its parts and we only have to look at Twerton and the players that took us into the 2nd tier. One last thing, I can talk a lot of ball cocks and am reminded of that daily lol

New players of L1 quality (or higher, maybe for a fee), UWE construction or training ground acquisition? All things I am hoping to hear news of 'soonish'. I think we could be waiting a fair bit longer. Some things just don't add up but that is up to others to question. I try to be realistic and also factor in that even with new owners this is still bristol Rovers. I am hoping that I am completely wide of the mark and that we get good news soon. I wouldn't mind waiting 4-5 more years just as long as I knew that it was going to happen.

They've shifted about 600. That is awful, wonder if C*ty fans will join us peacefully to cheer us on against their biggest rivals? Bristol United, anyone ?

Yea 3 home games in 7 days will reduce the attendence of a cup game AND its all ticket AND its on sky However with trolls an LL returning and it being a severnside derby, could be pleasantly surprised and only Ā£10 š When you say LL are you saying Lennie is back too ? Got to admit I don't really read much about other clubs but I thought Lennie had retired

I assume that was put up by "fans" not the club in any event? I think all the club ever suggested was we need the UWE if we were ever going to get to the Championship? The UWE mock up was placed right in the centre of the supporters club bar. It was watertight of course.

You have forgotten the mock up of UWE on social media ? Other than the official artist drawings, I'm not aware of them. When we had the live feed for the planning permission and won it, that same night and for a few months after, we had so many of our fans put up the mock up photos on social media and in an attempt to wind up the 82. I was uneasy with that and told a few of my workmates to ramp it back. I've learned through bitter experience not to gloat or even believe anything until it has happened. In this case we really were their fabled gift that keeps on giving. A definite home goal and very embarrassing we now have the hashtag #MindTheCash smh.

Hang on a mo your intro says "amazing numbers & noise throughout" then your last to camera part says the opposite. Are you schizophrenic? If so then at least you have each other lol He's referring to the Scunny fans there Oh crap sorry to the OP.

Well that's from the mouths of 2ST holders so... They didn't say it was at the lions though. Bar BS3. Don't doubt it happened either. Two sides to City support here and I reckon Mr Lansdown and his Bristol Sport franchise will want to get rid of the fans on West street as well. I remember you. I'll let the other realise which side your on.

I'll also be making one on Thursday for Cardiff City at home! Thanks guys! Hang on a mo your intro says "amazing numbers & noise throughout" then your last to camera part says the opposite. Are you schizophrenic? If so then at least you have each other lol

Pretty much sums up how I see it. There have been posters in the past that I've been 90% sure they must be Sh1!heads on the wind up with some of their comments though. There's some new ones around this season who seem determined that what we've got is a crap side that is going to struggle. I personally don't see it that way but I do respect the other posters on here no matter how rediculous their posts might seem because we've all got an opinion and are entitled to it. Our squad was the third best squad last season behind Northampton and Oxford and we did ok against both of those sides. In the second half of the season we were pretty much unbeatable and we gained momentum as it drew on very much like the season before. We are 1 down 45 to go. I'm feeling very positive that the squad will push on again, keep getting better with the odd addition here and there and we'll keep improving. That opinion is based in what's happened gradually over these last two years. History tends to repeat itself in most walks of life and footballs no different. For years we flirted with relegation and it was only a matter of time before we dropped out of the football league if big changes weren't made. We lose our first game of this season and there's lots of people calling for big changes. We are on a roll and we've got momentum on the pitch and off it. Big changes aren't needed, just a gradual improvement like we've been doing, and that's happening. People need to chill. Patience is in very short supply on this forum. I read both forums and this one seems to have either younger members or the moderators tend to allow more latent aggression, that is my observation but saying that, there is more to read on here and I notice that it seems a lot less hostile than when I last lurked on the old OF. As for the team, what I feel went wrong was DC raising expectations in the recruiting front by saying he would bring in X amount of players and we felt that should have been done before we started the season. I know there is still time but I think that any players we did bring in would have benefitted from the pre season and in bonding. We HAVE to remember that this is Bristol Rovers and that we need to keep it real. We have had a fairytale happen with Wael and family buying the club and achieving much more than we dared to believe and yet some still won't allow themselves to be happy, as if they believe that we now should expect everything to happen and in double quick time. I believe we will see changes in stadium staff and the match day staff plus we have very good people that are given the brief to attain the stadium. Patience is needed and is the key to much of what this forum suffers from but we are not alone. Look on most clubs forums and you will see a mirroring of this on here. Forums arw rubbish ? Yes, at times. My uncle just blocks people who constantly try to pick argument with him. There may be something to that. He says that his forum time on the other one is now much nicer due to that. Being upset and insulted in a choice I guess. Just choose not to be that way and take control by not seeing posts that persistent offenders make. I tend to lurk more that I post. It's easier that way for me

I'm not accusing the Al-Qadi family of trying to rip off anyone. What I am concerned about is whether they were persuaded to buy Rovers without being aware of how much cash would be needed to carry through the whole project and do it properly. I'm not sure they realized what a shambles almost every aspect of the club was and how much work it was going to take to even achieve the most basic changes let alone build a new stadium. Steve Hamer said as much when they retired TTT and talking of the lone wolf approach. He looked pretty watered off

I did not realise it was a crime to be ambitious. I agree. I just hope we manage to retain a bit of humility if we do get higher up in the leagues and have the infrastructure we are promised. The season we went into the conference they nearly dropped to League 2 until SC was parachuted in and then was given a lot to spend winning League 1 the following year. On the pitch we are only one season behind them now, maybe 2-3 off it but if we get a move on that gap will close sooner rather than later. Then we can look them in the eye and say "we have earned this." If you look at the bigger picture then you would know that that lot are a long way ahead of us. We are only 6 months into a takeover and we have a long way to go to even be on level terms, on the pitch.

dont get why people are in such a hurry to change/rip up a winning team??? I think "rip up" is an extremely OTT comment. Nobody (as far as I can see) is suggesting that. What I am suggesting is that I think it's incredibly naive to assume that a side who played non-league football just 2 years ago will now be good enough to really make an impact on L1. I'm not saying that they won't be good enough - I'm just pointing out that I think it's incredibly naive - and indeed rather fairy-tale/fantasy stuff to imagine we will still be able to compete (properly) in L1 without strengthening and improving our starting 11. "Stand still and get left behind" is the old adage. I truly believe many of our players will make the step up and - at the very least - will be able to play a part from the bench. But I also think some areas of the team (especially midfield and goalkeeper) can be strengthened and I'd be disappointed if we don't address this. That's certainly very different from saying "let's rip the team up". I felt the same way until I had a good look at how Burton have got on. Have a quick look and I think you may be a bit more confident.

This was the post I was quarrying but it was on another thread. Jesus, shifts are not doing me any good. Sorry grayraydonThere was a queue of disappointed children outside his office door waiting to shake his hand and he didn't appear. I heard some parents say it would be the last time they would take their children to the Memorial Stadium during his tenure.

In the 3 times me and the Mrs have been there was no trace of Higgsy. I guess Steve Hamer was in the office working and allowing the players, manager and staff to be front, right and centre. I think there is some mischief going on here. I just can't see people queuein up and I think the comment about not being back under his tenure is very tongue in cheek unless I am mistaken. I guess a few are being caught out hook line and sinker on this. It's been a couple of years since I used the old forum so I need to get a feel for this un but I do think that post was harking back to the Kev spencer ban times. ahhhhhh The Hidden Agenda days of old. Welcome back my old friend If I remember right then you are the computer bloke ? I am seeing a few familiar names so trying to catch up.

Think you may have quoted the wrong post mate, because that makes no sense to me or anything that I wrote on my post. Unless you're saying that the op was made tongue in cheek which I'm 99% sure it wasn't. Yeah I made a mistake in quoting as it was supposed to be a post on its own. I will have to look but I think one of the posts said something about not bringing their kids under Steve Hamers tenure. Surely that has to be tongue in cheek
