I think we’ve made some very good signings, some of which I see as real coups as I’m surprised they’ve come to us. I do wonder if this is an effect of having JB at the helm (it will have obviously been a factor with the Fleetwood lads).
I think Coutts and Finley in midfield and Anderson and Thomas on the wings could be superb acquisitions based on reputation and hearsay. Still the Centre backs and Strikers I’m uncertain about but I’m more optimistic than usual at this time of year. Let’s hope Joey can get them playing. UTG!

Mansfield. Still haunted by that one. The home fixture is haunting but the away fixture makes me think of Matty Taylor’s 98th minute winner in our promotion season. A much fonder memory. UTG!

I saw Darragh Macanthony on Sky a few weeks ago and they asked if keeping JCH was their priority this summer and he said no. He said if a club comes in offering a healthy fee and offer him triple his wages then they can’t compete with that and would be daft to say no.
It was basically him putting JCH in the shop window as long as they receive the right price. Good news for us I guess. I just hope it happens early enough to loosen up the FFP budget a little bit.

I think Aaron Collins will be the next Matty Taylor, hopefully without the snakey departure.

Good to see Grealish back playing in time for the Euros. Southgate plays with such a defensive set up that the few attacking players in the lineup need to be creative and clinical, otherwise we’ve got bore draws written all over us.

It depends how you define success. I think a bounceback promotion next season is a nearly impossible task. The current set of players we have is miles off and I think it’s going to take more than a bit of a summer rebuild to get us back to League 1.
If we brought in 8 or so players this summer and 5 or 6 of them turned out to be good signings and took us to a top half finish next season then I’d define that a successful first transfer window and first full season in charge for JB.
The next challenge would then be to keep hold of those good players and bring in more of the same quality the following season to build a promotion challenging side. This is the only way I see us bouncing back.
In answer to your original question, I’d say I’m more hopeful about this than expectant.

I think it’s going to be very difficult to bounce back strong next year. The difficulty is how many areas of the pitch we are weak in, improving in one area is a lot easier to do than a whole squad overhaul.
When we last got relegated (to the National League), we actually had a pretty strong defence but were just poor going forward. We kept that defence together and just had to improve in the areas further up the pitch, which we did successfully to bounce straight back.
I think this summer is much tougher as I don’t know if we had any real strengths last season, JB’s got a very busy summer on his hands.

I’m quite surprised a big name footballer with all the wealth they have hasn’t looked to work with some tech experts in setting up a social media company of their own that clamps down hard on discrimination.
With a real focus on this at the minute I think it would get a lot of support from footballers and other sports people and celebrities alike, and if they go, the general public will follow. Seems to be a gap in the market to me, and if it took off would be worth billions.
Maybe this is being done in the background and we just haven’t heard about it yet.

Sadly a waste of time in my opinion, until these morons are named and shamed plus a heavy fine it won't stop,to easy to hide behind a keyboard etc. While I agree racists are never gonna go away, or not any time soon anyway, the idea is that social media companies should be doing more to stop these people having accounts or given the platform to air their views. While a one weekend boycott isn’t going to remove racists from the world, it is probably going to cost social media quite a lot and may therefore be what’s needed to give them a kick up the arse to take action.

Perhaps he looked at the Yeovil captain and realised something. Just following Rovers can make you feel depressed. 2 mods on here recently took a break because following us and then dealing with the negativity here that brings got to them. I guess it’s the same playing in a relegation threatened team with 5-10k people yelling stuff at you or even trying to deal with the weight of expectation playing for a big club in a small league. Fair play to him. I was thinking this last night too. I think the pressure and expectation put on players gets overlooked because it’s a dream job for most, getting paid a fortune for doing what is my favourite hobby every day of the week. Then I thought about it. I hate making a mistake in my own work, and yet the consequences, depending on the severity of the mistake, are that I get told to re-do it, perhaps get a slap on the wrist from my boss, and I guess if I made a really serious mistake I might get a first warning (fortunately this hasn’t happened). And just this makes me feel a bit sh** about myself. If a footballer makes a mistake, they get moans and groans and screams from thousands of so called “supporters”. They then go home probably feeling down about their performance and open their phones to hundreds of messages of abuse and threats because they had a bad day at the office. They then turn the tv on to see pundits and analysts telling the world they’re not good enough (if they’re at the top level). Maybe it’s not quite the dream job I’ve always imagined.

I never liked him when I’d seen him play I must admit. But I think the story suggests he’s struggling with his mental health for certain. Billy Kee retired from professional football for similar reasons and as far as I’m aware just has the odd game in non league now.
I think it would be easy to be frustrated with footballers in your team for stepping away like this, but God knows what they’ve got going on in their personal life or in their head. It’s easy to forget sometimes that players aren’t just products there for our entertainment and they are people that have problems in their lives the same as anyone else.
Hopefully they come away from the game and get the support they need to get their head and their life back on track. Unfortunately for some, like Lee Collins as you mention, that support doesn’t come until it’s too late and they pay the ultimate price. Very sad.

To put the ball in the back of the net. If someone in the squad finds a way to do this, then we’ve got a chance. And with Jaak back, there’s no reason we can’t get a few good results. UTG!

In a season where you’ve seen 2 managers fail and a third one have a poor start, do you not think maybe it’s the players that might be the problem?

Ok so far i much prefer this shape to 3 at the back but I think we need more creativity to put our three forwards in. Difficult to say who I’d bring off to bring Otzumer on for perhaps Hanlan and play Oz just behind Daley and Jona I agree. I’d go Oz and Walker/Tutonda to replace Hanlon and Grant. Leave Daly and Ayunga up there as a front two.

Seriously lacking some creativity here. The games just passing McCormick and Grant by, other than one nice turn I can’t remember Grant touching the ball.
Daly covering lots of ground I love his work rate, and Ayunga is obviously the target man up top but Hanlan is offering nothing out wide.
Think we need to get one of Ozzy, Walker or Tutonda on in the second half, either out wide or in the hole behind the strikers. We need someone who’s willing to be brave and run at players or try something a bit different, otherwise we could go another 45 mins without seeing a clear cut chance.

There’s definitely a good player there but he needs to be fitter. Don’t have any idea if he has any issues that stop him losing weight but I think until he does, he just isn’t going to reach his potential.
Apologies for going slightly off topic but reminds me of Samit Patel in cricket. He was told some years ago that if he lost weight and got fitter he’d be one of the first names on the England teamsheet. He ignored the advice and failed to get fit, and as a result he’s not played for England since. I feel Josh Barrett’s professional football career might end in the same result.

In Barrow’s last 6 games they’ve won and kept a clean sheet in 4 of them. They lost the other two.
Tom Davies has started 4 of Barrow’s last 6 games. I think you know where I’m going...

After the howler the Cardiff keeper made yesterday they might want him back.

What’s strange is how we can not give the opposition a sniff for so much of the game but then have a shocking piece of defending 2 or 3 times a game that gives the other team a simple goal. I think it’s a lack of concentration more than a lack of ability.
There’s a few possible reasons/fixes for this in my opinion: 1.) The players just aren’t switched on enough and don’t have the mental capability/capacity to stay switched on for 90 minutes. 2.) There isn’t a leader in the back line that’s constantly organising and communicating in order to make sure the rest of the defence is switched on for the full 90 minutes. 3.) In the last couple of games, this switching off has come late in the game. Sometimes fitness can be the problem for this. People tend to notice a lack of fitness more easily when someone looks physically tired and slow. But anyone who’s played the game can tell you that if you are not fit enough, when you start to feel tired. as well as becoming physically slower you become slower upstairs as well. Not sure with our young defence that this should be an excuse, but it’s a possibility.
It’s up to Joey B and his team to find the reason for this and fix it ASAP, otherwise it could cost us our place in the league.

You must scratch your head as a manager watching that. We’ve absolutely smashed them, not taken our chances then a couple of momentary lapses in concentration at the back and the game is lost.
I’d say the result is more frustrating than anything else but the performance for the most part was encouraging.
