All White On The Night! A quarter of an hour or so into the game I noticed something unusual in this day and age: Fleetwood had no black players on the pitch. This continued when they made substitutes. A look at their site shows much the same......................

"Widdrington then stepped up for the spot-kick and attempted to neatly dink the 'keeper, but Thomas in the Forest Green net was unphased and caught the chip" If I were a manager and one of my players did that I would give them a bollocking whether it went in or not If I was writing a match report for general consumption I'd make sure I knew the difference between 'unphased' and 'unfazed'!

Considering all the rubbish things that have happened to Rovers in recent years it's a bit rich that the first time the SC gets its knickers in a twist is when KM is outed!

Not sure who it was of the coaching staff but they were stood in front of Garner shouting at the players, that reminded me that Rofe did the same to Martin Dobson. Think that was Maher. Garner continued to stand like a statue stroking his beard in a thoughtful manner! Occasionally he would point or give a push-up signal...that was about it!

I think we could have got more out of Reilly. Ok, it was pre-season, and, OK, it was Yate Town, but the clinical way he took that hat-trick in no time at all showed signs of a natural goal scorer.

There’s been a lot of gloom recently around rovers. Ben Garner has not had the best start............. One way of looking at it I suppose...............................

FWIW I think this could turn out to be an even better appointment than DC at this stage in BRFC’s development because our last few managers have not had recent experience at Championship level or above, if at all. GC had been in or around League 1 for a decade so knew what would work, and DC at levels below, but if we truly want to get into the Championship and stay there then we need someone who knows what it’s about. In all walks of life and business you appoint professionals with qualifications appropriate to the task in hand. And yes I know BG doesn’t have managerial experience but he ticks all the other boxes and in theory should be better connected to the calibre of players we need, even if they are surplus to requirements at their parent clubs. It's not just the lack of managerial experience though. It's also the total lack of playing experience (unlike, say, Lampard) and no coaching with a league team since 2017. We haven't seen a 'new manager bounce', nor matches turn around after a half-time team talk. In many ways it's a strange appointment. Many days ago I said that it was 'prompt, bold and interesting'. True, but imagine the thoughts going through the heads of seasoned pros like Mansell or Craig when BG says how he wants things done. A very cynical person, with no evidence whatsoever, could say that BG would be easy to discard if new owners came in with their own idea of who to have as manager!
