Ed Upson is a good footballer and probably if he was playing against us for one of the better sides we would be saying we should sign him. When Ollie Clarke was out for a long time he shone last season when we were heading for the top.If he does play he needs to be in the holding role and give others the chance to do the running. I am not convinced so far that Grant is even up to Upsons standard though I hope to be proved wrong!

The biggest joke is that it is the Premier League clubs who are pleading for help from the Government. They think sod all of the other 70 teams in the League. The Premier League should be sharing the money out in there unprecedented times so ALL clubs see the Pandemic through. The Premier League can live through with no crowds at all based on the TV money.

I do agree with having to be careful with money but if you sell JCH and then bring in a good striker at say a quarter of his price then you stand a chance of selling on again. I would add if you get to the Championship your players automatically increase in value when selling.

simonj, Ed Upson has played a lot of Professional games under many different Managers so obviously they understand his game. Hargreaves does not play in Ed Upsons position but perhaps you didn't understand that either. By the way a 5m pass sideways to our player iis better than 10 yard passes straight to the opposition that many were guilty of on Saturday. To criticise one player for that rubbish on Saturday is totally wrong. Hargreaves time may well come if he can get consistency into his game. At the moment he has too many Headless chicken moments but I do agree with you that I woulod prefer to see our youngsters in favour of somebody elses. I would add that Ed Upson would not be in my first XI at the moment but neither would Kilgour or Leah.

I find it very interesting the replies here but in view of these sensible replies cannot understand why BG is getting so much grief when he has had to sell the only player who really scored goals for us and replace him with strikers with no goalscoring record whatsoever at this level. He can bring in all the players he like but if you cannot put the ball in the net enough times you will be relegated. Looking at our squad and allocating goals I cannot honestly see where 30 goals are going to come from let alone the n umber for a reasonable season!

I have nothing against the policy of bringing in younger players to eventually sell but our problem over the fifty odd years that I have supported the gas is exactly the same thing every time. When we do sell a player we don't replace that player with a FAIR proportion of the money we get. You can't expect to be successful if you sell your best player which is usually your goalscorer and replace him with players with no goalscoring record at the level you are playing. Peterborough may not go up again this year but at least when they sell a striker for mega bucks they then replace him with two players far cheaper than the fee they get but proven at the level .Andy Tillson as our record signing still in this day and age is nothing short of ridiculous.Everybody harps on about finding the n ext Barry hayles and things like this but the truth is for every Barry Hayles there are five Blissetts, James, Taits, etc etc. It doesn't matter what type of football we play we aren't going to win anything if we don't have a player who has a clue where the net is! We should have been signing say a Piggott or a Healey but as usual we are going about things the ultra cheap way and that will cost us our level of football.

Baldwin got to be better than the current form shown by Kilgour. He is an absolute liability at the moment.

Harries is IMO the best of poor options at left back. He was let down today by Leahy who provided no help whatsoever and when ever Harries passed the ball to Leahy he passed the bloody thing back to him.

After that abysmal performance for God sake get back to a good old fashioned back four and two strikers. I was not impressed by Ipswich but more that we made them look better than they were. There is no point playing wingbacks who dont have an attacking instinct in them and picking three centre backs just because we have so many of them! Kilgour is looking absolutely terrible and Leahy couldn't make a forward pass to save his life.To add to this Upson and Westbrooke are wasted together as they both need to be in the same position. At the moment Grant looks totally lost and it is worrying that Hanlon couldnt finish as easy a chance as he would get all season. It is like watching a John Ward side all over again but the only consolation is that Covid 19 prevents us from attending! If we are going to lose lets at least go down attacking. My team would be
Jaakola
Little Ehmer Baldwin Harries
Rodman Westbrooke New Signing Nicholson
Ayunga Hanlon
I would look for another Striker as well. (Preferably one who knows where the net is!!

Jaakkola 7 MOM
Kilgour 2 Ehmer 4 Harries 4
Little 6 Grant 3 Upson 3 Leahy 3
Westbrooke 5 Hanlan 5 Mitchell-Lawson 3
Subs: Ayunga 5 Daly 4 Tutonda 5
Ref 4 Ipswich 6
Absolutely dire to watch and code didn't work as got charged £10 for that rubbish.

Absolute shambles. Terrible negative approach to a home game. Like for like substitutions and little in the way of attacking ideas. Afraid that just wasnt good enough.

RIP Gordon. Remember him selling programmes and rosettes in the road by the old cinema at Eastville. Always friendly and certainly moved up with the club he loved from those humble beginnings. Condolences to his family and friends.

Have I misread this questionaire or is it indicating that those who have not received their season ticket yet will be the ones who have to relocate? Seems a bit unfair because the only reason i dont have mine is because I have for 20 years had a season ticket in the East side but because I am now 65 I have to wait for my ticket although I renewed it ages ago!

To me he looks perfect to go into the midfield with Westbrooke and Grant. Could be a really dynamic midfield.

stuart1974, There is always a risk but I look at the players we are signing and for me they all look footballers and by that I mean at ease with having the football and actually wanting it.How quickly they develop as a unit could well be down to confidence and the point gained saturday will do no harm at all.

Sunderland had quality players in their midfield as they did over most parts of their team. One of their players cost many times more than our entire team. Our midfield will more than hold its own against a lot of the teams in this division but even if they do there is no guarantee in football that we will win games. Who would have thought that Peterborough would be deservedly beat at Accrington? Oh of course Peterborough played poorly. Two teams cause what happens in a game of football.

Absolutely amazed with the criticism for the performance but not over surprised. How can anyone criticise any of the defenders- Sunderland could have won 3-1 but thats basing on ifs. You could just as easily say we could have deservedly been 2-0 up in the first 20 minutes rather than one. Annsi made three class saves but that is what he is paid to do. It is very easy to say Sunderland were poor but how about looking into why they were poor.Perhaps it was something to do with the standard of our defending and general play and closing down. We created four good chances to score plus two occasions where Mitchell-Lawson who played well could have created cledar cut chances with easy passes. As regards the "dud Baldwin" how can you call yourself a Rovers supporter with that sort of comment based on how many minutes of game time. You should be ashamed. I firmly believe that there is a lot of goo9d to come from ALL the players BG has signed given a fair amount of time. With 7 debutants things are only going to get better but please look further before coming out with Sunderland were poor. Most football matches are won with about 5 minutes of football- a simplified example of this is for instance how many teams go on to9 win games after scoring in the 44th minute? One poor refereeing decision can affect the whole match. Had Sunderland gone down to ten players when they should have done we could now be talking about a much improved second half display and a 2 or 3 goal win.
