Don't most modern boots have strange shaped blade protrusions rather than what would be described as a traditional stud. Perhaps there is some blame there too. Not if I remember correctly. I used to wear blades in school - they were great - but I'm pretty sure they were banned in sports a few years later after lots of laceration injuries caused by them! These are what I meant - on a current expensive Nike Boot Attachment Deleted

Good to see the lad back from what I think is his second ACL injury. There really seems to be a plague of this type of injury which seemed so much rarer in the 1960's and 1970's despite the terrible pitches back then. I read that modern firmer pitches might be a reason due to jarring together with new style boots the do not cushion landing when jumping and too many games resulting in tired muscles supporting the knee joint. Certainly something is happening to the knees of today's players. Most ACL injuries seem to happen when studs got caught in the turf whereas back in the day those type of injuries were rare and came through poor challenges. From what I understand the modern pitches are part grass and part synthetic weave (a bit like Wayne Romney’s scalp) and don’t give way when you twist awkwardly. It means we get quite innocuous incidents causing severe injuries when back in the day of wet muddy pitches the grass would tear or mud would slide. Don't most modern boots have strange shaped blade protrusions rather than what would be described as a traditional stud. Perhaps there is some blame there too.

Born in the Chew Valley into a farming family in the early 60's we also had a dairy and our main competitors were the Dunfords!. Moved to Bristol when I left school then down to Devon before settling in Wiltshire. Seen my first game against Fulham in March 75, Fulham had Moore and Mullary in their team. Always stayed loyal to the gas the only genuinely decent football club in the West Country. Which family is that werton? I think our milk deliveries in Harptree came from Pullins. My Uncle (Les Lyons) farmed about 500 acres on top of Mendip - mixed arable, plus Dairy, Beef, Sheep.

Given they missed out on promotion at the death last year then I can't understand why they've gone all the way again to the final, unless there plan is to ultimately just miss out again this season, which seems hard to believe. That thought that they just missed out last year, possibly through the workload, crossed my mind too and I was about to edit my post above...

Just had a look a Pompey's fixtures and after playing last night they've got: Fleetwood (a) Saturday MK dons (h) Tuesday Rochdale (h) Friday Arsenal (h) Monday Ouch.... Then it's Posh (a) Sat and Fleetwood (h) Tues Well they say playing whilst it's going well breeds more and more confidence, but I wonder if they will struggle with the number of games. It didn't do us any harm in 2007 though

Upson and Ogogo both one caution away from a two match ban, as is Dobson for Sunderland going into the game.

It’s the land of Milk, Cheese, Honey and Chocolate! Still haven’t found a team to support here tho! local team is Xamax and they play in red in a red stadium so that’s never going to happen! Bern is less than an hour away, but who wants to see Young boys play in the wankdorf stadium........ I had to Google that omg! That was brave, there'll be a knock on your door soon googling that!

I just hope we give a good account of ourselves and play well. We will have to work really hard to close them down if we are to have any chance of not being torn apart - and I feel that corners/free kicks could be our best chance of scoring. I was at Fratton a couple of weeks or so ago and Sunderland just couldn't defend corners against Pompey's big men up from the back. I think I would like to see us revert to a back 3/5 to make us more solid.

Good to see a decent mark for a ref.Radio Stoke today both Stoke and Crewe were complaining about their refs. The Crewe manager really angry how their Ref turned down a defo pen but gave a non existent one to Muff.Refs usually get bad marks from losing teams but the Crewe manager really lost it.Think he'll be in trouble. A late thank you for the report Steve. Re the Crewe penalty complaints - I completely agree having watched the Quest EFL show yesterday (for the first time in ages) - the Crewe manager has a good reason to be angry

Born just across the harbour from Portsmouth in G'port - both my Parents were from Bristol - Bedminster area, but my Dad was in the Navy based in Portsmouth. First few months in the Portsmouth area, then Paignton with my Mum and Grandparents for ~ 1 year before Dad left the Navy and we moved to East Harptree. From age 18 there were 4 years in Nottingham at Uni, then work took me to West Sussex - Worthing - in 1981. We've lived in a little village, 15 miles from Worthing and 12 from Chichester in West Sussex since 1987.
I see a few with links to St George - I had a really good mate called Robert Needs from St George but have lost contact - anyone know him?

A vital win in terrible conditions but, it has to be said, Blackpool opened us up a number of times with only 10 men. Next week I feel we have to revert to a central 3 in defence and probably not risk Leahy. Sunderlands midfield and wingers will tear us apart if we stick to the same starting 11 and formation as we did yesterday and v Tranmere.

A win at last! Perhaps this might just be a catalyst for improved confidence etc? I'm still worried though that BG is not a Manager....

Yeesssssss - thank f for that.
BG is safe for another week, but he has to question his ability to influence the first half of this second half surely

Losing to a team on a poor run, down to ten men without changing anything to take advantage of the extra man, the weather or anything! You might be a good coach of individual players BG - but you are not a manager

Come on BG get Abraham on - they're down to 10 and playing against the wind ffs! Whats everyones obsession with Abraham, he is living off his brothers name, he is woeful ..well he's on the bench and a striker and we're losing that's why I want him to come on

Leahy needs protecting - he will be destroyed next week at Sunderland, and that will destroy any confidence he has left
