my all time favourite forward line : Petherbridge Biggs Bradford Ward Hooper. By my reckoning 696 league goals between them!

Of course he was, just having a senior moment.Did you ever get to watch that side,a bit special in any era,can you imagine having the choice of Lambden,Bradford,Biggs, and Roost,DC would be wetting himself with indecision I saw most of them but Lambden and Warren were in their last season (1956)when I first started watching Rovers and the side was being rebuilt with Paddy Hale at Centre Half and the likes of Alfie Biggs ,Dai Ward and Barrie Meyer available to partner Bradford who ,and most people forget, was an inside forward until Lambden left and if that wasnt enough the manager also had wingers Petherbridge (85 goals) and Hooper (101 goals) to chip in with a bit of extra fire power!. A different era of course but they were a very special squad of players and a very special manager too!

Wow thats an impressive list but I'd like to add Vic Lambden and Bobby Jones to the list, Joner was a striker when he first got in the side but later on was switched to the wing , probably because he was just about the quickest player we ever had. Lambden with 117 goals and the fourth highest ever scorer in the clubs history. I tried to stick to strikers hence no Jarman,Jones,Hooper,Taylor S..As for Vic Lambden one of our best centre halves in what was probably our greatest ever side and manager Lambden was a centre forward, Ray Warren was the centre half (he took the penalties too!)

Nicholls 5 doesnt inspire me and more to the point doesnt seem to inspire our defence. J. Clarke 6 average but I dont think right back is his best position Lockyer 5 below average Parkes 5 I'm beginning to wonder if he's good enough for league 2. Brown 6 worked hard Bodin 6 did ok Lines 4 a luxury we cannot afford Sinclair 5 at fault with the first goal, worked hard but chased a lot of shadows Cowan-Hall 6 a sublime pass for Taylors goal, did well, faded in the second half. Taylor 8 M.o.M. A good game by a man in form. Easter 4 see Lines Subs:Harrison 5 not the game changer that we know he can be. Montano 3 couldnt trap a bag of cement. Leadbitter 6 should have started the game or at least come on at half time. Crowd 4 I've been to livelier wakes Ref 2 Shocking, he should have gone to Specsavers on his way to the Job Centre. Stevenage 5 a bog standard 4th division team

I think JC deserves a special mention after yesterday's game. He's been In and out the team all season. Understandably so- He's not quite first choice in either position this season. But he never puts a foot wrong. Many a footballer might sulk or feel under appreciated but JC just keeps going. These are the players a squad needs to be successful. When there top goalscorer came on yesterday, JC marked him out the game. Fantastic signing. Hugely important player so far this season. Totally agree, a model Pro and just the type I like to see in a blue and white shirt. He was very close to being my man of the match.

Nicholls 6 looked a bit more confident today, I think the generous applause from the Blackthorn end after a punch under pressure boosted his confidence. J. Clarke 7.5 a strong performance Parkes 7 getting back to the standard we expect of him McChrystal 7 a typical Macca game strong,no-nonsense captains game, led by example Brown 7 Mr reliable Bodin 6.5 not spectacular but adds a balance and quality to the right side Lines 8 m.o.m His best game of the season , he looked more the player we know he can be. Sinclair 7.5 Action Man always gives 100% Montano 7.5 a proper winger who can actually supply good and varied crosses,he needs more starts. Taylor 8 a good all round performance and two good finishes Easter 6.5 an ok game, he has the quality but he isnt a game changer. Subs: Gosling 6 not on long but hit a good shot that troubled the keeper Blissett not on long enough Crowd 7 cold.wet and happy! Ref 4 poor and erratic Carlisle 5 well beaten.

Nicholls 5 good pen save but another soft goal Leadbitter 6.5 worked hard Lockyer 6 not at his best McChrystal 6 ok Brown 7 got forward well Bodin 5 contributed little Mansell 6 .5 worked hard, surprised he was subbed Sinclair 7 M.o.M a hardworking game Gosling 5 same as Bodin Taylor 6 missed a good chance by trying to beat the same defender twice. Harrison 5 Not one of his better games Subs: Lines 4 didnt look interested Easter 5 no better than the other strikers J. Clarke 5.5 not on long, didnt do anything wrong Crowd 5 quiet, but considering the performance thats hardly surprising Ref 4 belongs in the Conference Chesham 6 rode their luck, battled well. Good luck to them.

I was never convinced with Josh low when he was with us, however he did have some good games when playing against us..... which is very typical of most ex players who could not perform in the quarters! And going way back Steve White split opinions, some, unfairly, blamed him for taking the departed Paul Randalls place but he had a longer and more productive career than Randall. Going even further back Stuart Taylor was never rated by some but he must have done something right to hold the all time appearance record, a record that is unlikely ever to be beaten.

Lee Nicholls. most people seem to rate him, I dont. But there again I love Marmite.! From past players there is a guy I stand with who still argues the case for Gary Kenneth. Football is like most things in life, its all about opinions.

Spending money on a old run down stadium, what's the point. Save the money and buy a new player instead that's what I say And play in the dark ? With our home form that may be to our advantage!!

Nicholls 2 ( 1 point for a good catch from a low cross and one point for turning up! ) Truly shocking Leadbitter 7 M.o.M kept going, some good crosses that were wasted Lockyer 6 an ok game Parkes 3 all at sea he,s a shadow of the player of last season, body language looks all wrong. Brown 6 an ok game Bodin 5 a wonder goal, after that i spent the rest of the game wondering if he was still playing! Mansell 6.5 grafted well Sinclair 5.5 huffed and puffed, never gave up but produced little Gosling 6 some nice touches Taylor 5 wasteful but did hit the post, he'll always miss more than he'll score Easter 5 largely ineffective Subs: Lines 5 didn't improve things Montano 4.5 a bench player Harrison 4.5 didnt improve things but wasnt on long Crowd 5 quiet but thats hardly surprising given the teams performance. At least most stayed to the end! Ref 6 ok Newport 6 ok they didn't look a bottom side and they gleefully accepted the gift-wrapped 3 points given to them. they had little to beat.
